    Default Your favorite Margarine spread?

    Opinions please

I'm due to purchase a new container of "butter" or margarine, and I'm wanting some advice. The last stuff I got was ICBINB light, and it came in two small "tubs", and I'm just about polishing off the second tub.

It was OK, but I was wondering if anybody here has some experience with other brands that they like better. I don't want a spray, as I often use it on bread & I also like a good flavor! I'd prefer no more than 1 point per Tbsp.

    Thanks in advance!

I buy Becel margarine so here is some information direct from the package:

    No trans fat
    Non hydrogenated
    Low in saturated fat
    Source ofMega-3 Polyunsturates.
There is a stamp on the box that says "Health Check - Heart and Stroke Foundation.
There are 2 web sites listed:
    www.becel.ca
    www.healthcheck.org

    Nutrition Facts:
    Per 2 tsp. (10 gms)
    Calories: 70
    Total Fat: 8 g.
    Saturated Fat: 1 g.
    Trans Fats 0 g
    Cholesterol 0 mg
    Sodium 70 mg
    Total Carbs 0 g
    Dietary Fibre 0 g
    Sugar 0 g
    Vit. A - 10%
    Vit. D - 30%
    Vit. E - 15%
THESE ARE THE BASICS FROM THE NUTRITION FACTS LISTED.

You buy it here in Canada in the grocery stores. You can buy two 1 lb.(454 g) plastic containers in a pkg. and you can buy the bigger container too.

Two tsps. would be 2 points.

My personal preference is butter. I don't use much, and I don't use it often, so I figure it isn't going to hurt me to use the real thing.

It has been many years since I put any kind of butter-type spread on bread or pancakes or waffles or popcorn or even corn on the cob.

My husband, kids & I are fans of Brummel & Brown spread made with Yogurt. No trans fat, 35% vegetable oil, 10% Yogurt. No cholesterol. Tastes terrific.

    Nutrition Facts:

    Serving size: 1 Tbsp

    Calories: 45

    Fat: 5

    WW Points: 1

Costs about $1.50 here for a 15 ounce container. We don't use a glut of the stuff, so it works out just fine on our meager budget.

    Hope that helps

I second the Brummel & Brown yogurt spread. It's not butter, but it's darn good!

Wow! Brummel and Brown? Sounds interesting. I am like Nancy, I prefer butter but it is high in points, I like it on baked potatos and pancakes. I think I will try it tho! 1 point per T is definitely much betta'

I've been buying whipped butter since I read (or heard) that margarine is only 1 molecule away from plastic! Sort of changed my mind about any kind of margarine (although B&B is pretty good). I don't use much; but it has a great flavor and a little goes a long way.

Count me in as not using margarine, but preferring butter because it's less of a "frankenfood". Also, real butter has a real butter taste and goes a LONG way. I'd rather have the real thing, just less of it. More satisfying.

I use the Fat Free Parkay spray on margarine. It's yummy, and it tastes like butter/margarine to me. Saves on points.

That's how I feel about some of the fat-free cheeses I have tried.

Pre-WWers, I was strictly a butter consumer (born in Wisconsin!), but, I cannot have it in the house now; too big of a temptation for this butter-lovin' gal. We have been using spray-on margerine and I am surprised at how fast I adjusted. I splurge on butter points in restaurants once in a while.

Anyhoo, I think I'll try some of your suggested brands.

ugghh - it is true. Take the test, put a stick of margine outside, and no mold will grow, and no flies (or other bugs) will eat it.

I do us the ICBINB spray for veggies, and I do spray it on toast too, otherwise I just use a dab of the real thing - butter. I will try the Brummel & Brown yogurt spread. sounds like a good alternative!

ACK! I dont like the results of those kinds of tests. Ok, maybe I might buy some real butter for occassional use.

Brummel and Brown and i've come to really rely on the ICBINB O point spray. I've made toasted chese sandwiches with that and can honestly not taste the difference.
