    Default Homemade Instant Oatmeal Packets

I found this on another board when I was looking for some healthy oatmeal packets to take with me on a road trip. This looks more healthful and cheaper! Perfect for that 6 AM gas station trip where the only thing edible is the hot water.

    Instant Oatmeal Packets

Blend 1/2 cup oats until powdery (use blender).

Into each of 10 zip lock bags, combine:

1/4 cup regular flaked or rolled oats
    1/4 tsp salt
2 tbsp of the powdered oats

To Use: Empty packet into bowl and add 1/2 cup boiling water and stir until thick.

Flavor Variations - To each pre-made packet add:

Apple Cinnamon: 1 Tbs sugar*, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, 2 Tbs chopped dried apples (or any dried fruits you like in your oatmeal)

Cinnamon Spice: 1 Tbs sugar*, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1/8 tsp nutmeg

Raisin and Brown Sugar: 1 Tbs Brown sugar, 1 Tbs Raisins

*Rapadura (organic succanant sugar) recommened because all the vitamins and minerals you need to digest the sugars is still intact, but hey, use what you got. If you wanted to omit sugar all together, you can just add in some fresh maple syrup/honey on the spot or a packet of Stevia to the 'pre-made' mix or when making it up.

Okay.. so this idea intrigues me.. i found it about a week ago on here.. and have wanted to try it out.. took a little trip to bulk barn to gather up some flavouring ingredients.. found lots of neat stuff there! Dried strawberries and blueberries, dried cantelope and peaches!! So i wanted to experiment with a few flavour combinations.

Paris.. i'm not sure if you've tried out this recipe.. but i found a few things wrong.. or just confusing.

I used 1cup oats powdered and put 2tbsp in each bag.. i only got 5 bags instead of the 10 the recipe states. Another site I read suggested that it would make 8 bags..

A few flavours i've made up.. haven't tried any yet.. but can't wait

    Cinnamon and brown sugar
    Banana blueberry
Strawberries and cream (dried skim milk powder)
    Raisin/cranberry/apple
    Papaya blueberry

Has anyone else experimented with this recipe??

well that's another thing.. i'm not sure someone once told me that 1cup of cooked oatmeal =2pts... so i figure with my additions and a splash of milk i'll likely just count 3 points.

Thanks for the recipe. I will give it a try. I am thinking of vacuum packing it to take in our travel trailer while we're camping this summer.

It takes 3 minutes to cook old-fashioned oatmeal in the microwave - why all this instant?
