Default Slim Sloppy Joes ~ 5 Points

    Hello all,

I used to make this all the time. Adding to this week's grocery list!

    Slim Sloppy Joes

    POINTSŪ value: 5
    Servings: 6

    Ingredients

1 pound 90% lean/10% fat raw ground beef
    1 cup onion(s), chopped
    1/4 cup ketchup
    2 Tbsp uncooked oat bran
    1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
    1 Tbsp mustard
    1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
    8 oz canned tomato sauce
6 light hamburger roll or bun

    Instructions

Cook ground meat and chopped onion in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until meat is browned, stirring until meat crumbles. Drain and return to skillet. Stir ketchup and next 5 ingredients into meat mixture; bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes, stirring often. Spoon mixture evenly over bottom halves of buns; cover with bun tops.

    Enjoy!

How does this do in a slow cooker?

I'm planning on making for a part this Saturday (June 4th, 2005) so hopefully someone can tell me! Thanks in advance.
    Sincerely,

I never tried it with oat bran? When the recipe cqalls for oat bran is it asking for the cereal?

Another tip: After you have browned the hamburger, toss it in a strainer and rinse it off in the sink. Sounds really strange, but, a lot of fat goes down the drain. After rinsing, toss it back in the pot and resume cooking.

We do that whenever we use hamburger in a recipe.

I second the rinsing thing.....makes things much healthier for you.

I"m sure in a crockpot it would be fairly similar. You might need to decrease the tomato sauce a bit, but I'd make it this way first and see how it turns out. It would be very yummy!

    Thanks for posting this!
