Thread: The Fiber Burger

Just wanted to share a recipe we made tonight out of DH's Men's Health magazine.

    The Fiber Burger

16 oz (1 lb) 97% lean ground beef
1 C canned black beans (mashed with a fork)
    2-4 tsp chili powder
    2 tsp minced garlic
4 tbsp diced green chili peppers (I used one small can)

Mix all the ingredients together and form patties.

The original recipe made 4 patties but they are very large. It could easily be made into 6 good sized burgers.

Here's the nutritional info (based on 4 servings)
    269 calories
    37 g protein
    33 g carbs
    4.4 g fat
    120 mg cholesterol
    7 g fiber
    692 mg sodium

By my calculations, it is 5 pts per burger if you make 4 patties, 3 pts per burger if you make 6 patties.

We had these on a whole wheat hamburger bun, with lettuce and tomato and oven fries. YUM!!!

This sounds good. I think I will plan to make them this week. Boy this weekend I was sure craving a burger but did not have one. This just may satisfy my craving.

Ok, I made these tonight, and they were VERY tasty with a whole wheat pita, Salsa and a dollop of sour cream.

My question is, do you have any idea why they fall apart during grilling? Did yours? Any suggestions?

The other thing, can you tell me how you figured out the points for 6 burgers? When I entered the recipe into the WW recipe builder (so I could keep it) it came up saying that for 6 burgers, each was 6 pts!

Thanks again for the recipe - DH and my 1 yo DD loved them! (The 4 yo DS stuck with hot dogs. LOL)

    Hi Pat -

I didn't grill them because it was raining the day we made them. I baked them in the oven on a cookie sheet.

The nutritional info was from the magazine. I just re-figured it for six servings based on their original info.

    Sorry, I'm not much help.

Thanks - I will bake them next time. That should work fine.

Maybe it was because I forgot to drain the chilis - DUH!!

You might try to add an egg white to the mixture - this should adhere it well and will only add to the points slightly.

I made these a couple of nights ago. I really liked the taste, but even though I drained everything well and baked them, they still fell apart. Has anyone tried adding egg? How did it taste?
