    Deep-Dish Pizza Casserole

    Recipe by : Cooking Light
    Makes 6 servings at 6 points each

    1 pound ground round
    1 15 ounce can chunky Italian-style tomato sauce
    cooking spray
    1 10 ounce can refrigerated pizza crust dough
    6 1 ounce slices part-skim mozzarelly cheese -- divided

    Cook meat in a medium nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until
    browned, stirring until it crumbles. Drain, if necessary and return to
    skillet. Add tomato sauce, and cook until heated. While meat cooks,
    coat a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish. Unroll pizza crust dough, and
    press into bottom and halfway up sides of baking dish. Line bottom
    of pizza crust with 3 slices mozzarella cheese. Top with meat
    mixture. Bake, uncovered at 425 for 12 minutes. Top with remaining
    3 cheese slices, and bake 5 additional minutes or until crust is
    browned and cheese melts.
    Cool 5 minutes before serving.

    Notes~~ I brown my meat in the microwave in a colander, so all the
    fat drips out. Next time I make this, I will add some mushrooms.
    Might be good also, made with ground turkey.

    Made this for dinner tonight. Delish DD loved it too. It's really very filling. I added mushrooms; could add green pepper, onions, or maybe some black olives. (Be sure to add appropriate points for olives.) I recommend it highly.

    This is great. I made it last night instead of ordering a pizza. I ate two pieces last night. I had yellow peppers so I sliced them and added them on. It is delicious. I plan on taking for lunches this week. Just add a salad and some water.

    This IS fantastic! It was so easy to prepare, too. I used Soy Crumbles in place of the ground beef. Couldn't even tell (and I'm a total meat-lover!) I can't figure out how to total the recipe, though. When I tried it, I came out with a slice equals 6.5 points! It's impossible that it would be more than the ground beef version, since a pound of lean ground beef is 22 points and the whole package of soy crumbles is only 10 or so. I must have messed up with the math. I gave it 5 points, just to be safe. I think next time, I'll add a little more cheese and keep the soy crumbles!

    Oh yeah, the soy crumbles make prep time SUPER fast - they're pre-cooked, so stove-top work in minimal!

    Are we sure that this is only 6 points for a sqare of this stuff? it seems like alot of meat for 6 points. has anyone double checked it? i'm bad at counting these points in receipes!!

    Since there was a bit of a debate about it, we just decided to use our own judgement. I use Maverick Beef, which is only 3% fat, so I treat it as six points.

    I don't eat a lot during the day on Sundays so I still had 19 points left when I made this for dinner. It is great - I had 3 servings and still had a point left over.

    Gives me something to go to when I have that craving for pizza. Thank you!

    Oh YUM!!! This sounds absolutely wonderful. I am going to make it this weekend for our family get-together. I'm sure I'll hear, "Mom, can you eat this?" YEP, I sure can!!

    This was absolutely great! I added more cheese (and of course up the pts.). It was sooooo good. I liked it better than the deep dish from Dominos

    Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!!! Pizza is a trigger food for me, so this sounds so good. Did you know that if you have a large food processor you can grind up chicken breast and brown that like ground beef?? It's WONDERFUL!! Might help with the fat. Anyway, thanks so much for this recipe! Serve with a big salad and you have a great meal!

    This sounds great and I added it to my Mastercook program, but it came up as 8 pts/slice. It sounds good enough to save the points for though!

    My whole family loved this. I added extra veg and made a topping for it using a cup of cottage cheese whipped in the blender with one egg. This makes a really yummy, light topping.

    How do you brown your hamburger in the microwave? It sounds great but I am not quite sure how to do it. I am a beginner when it comes to cooking or baking

    I posted this in food and points but thought it should be posted here too! Here is a variation that I made that all loved, including my junk food junkie skinny son!

    I used turkey sausage in a roll, cooked in water, and then drained and rinsed. Chunks come out big, so I chopped it finer, like regular sausage. Only used 1/2 a pound. I used spagetti sauce, just spreading it on, not real thick. I used 3 slices of fat free mozarella slices,cut into pieces and placed all around, sprinkled with a bit of parmesan cheese, and sprinkled with low fat mozarella. I added onions, green pepper, and italian seasoning. This was the best. Son didn't even know at first it was my ww recipe! He ate 1/2 which didn't leave a lot left for hubby and me!

    Hi Becky
    Make sure you have a microwave-safe plastic colander before you begin this or you will have one hellatious mess! Put the colander inside a casserole, then crumble your raw ground meat into the colander. Microwave it for a minute, then stir to break it up, continue in this manner until the meat is all cooked. Stir again to help all the fat drain out. You can also, at this point, rinse the drained meat, still in the colander, under hot running water...this removes even more fat. See all that nasty fat that's left in the bottom of the casserole?? EWWW aren't you glad you cooked it that way??

    the ideal of cooking your meat in the microvewave is great. I also have as ideal I would like to share, after yOU cook your hamburger rinse it in hot water which also rinses the fat out of the meat before you continue to cook [img]smile.gif[/img]

    I just have to add my kudos to this recipe. I made it for me and my husband last night and he loved it! And it was sooooo easy! We will definitely be adding this to our "weekly" meals.     I asked about this before, but I still am unclear as to what sauce this refers to. What brand makes a chunky Italian style sauce? If this is referring to a tomato sauce, I can find one with Italian seasonings, but it is smooth.

    Or, is this referring to a chunky spaghetti sauce?

    SuesieKew..I can't find that sauce here either. I just use one of the brands that makes a "thicker" sauce. Sometime, though, the crust gets soggier than other times. I don't know what causes this.
