Thread: Is this considered diet whole wheat bread?

  1. Post

I buy Cascade Pride 100% whole wheat bread at Winco and was wondering if it is similar to the whole wheat diet breads people list in recipes on these boards. The diet breads I have seen in the past were over $2 per loaf and this is just under $1! Here is the nutrition info:

    Serving size: 1 slice
    Calories: 60
    Fat: 1g
    Cholesterol: 0
    Sodium: 160mg
    Fiber: 2g
    Protein: 3g

Personally, I wouldn't consider that "diet" bread. The wheat bread I buy is Wonder Light and it is 2 slices per serving, 80 calories, .5g fat, 5g fiber - which works out to 1 point per serving (2 slices). I don't recall exactly what I paid for it, but it was probably more than $2.

I buy Weight Watchers bread - they have brown or white. I like the brown myself. It's usually around $2.19 a loaf here.

Be the change that you want to be.

No 'diet' bread is 40 cal or less a slice. But that does not mean you cannot have that bread. I eat Iron Kids Crustless (2 slices for 1 point) and it is not considered a diet bread either. My DH eats Iron Kids Wheat (2 slices for 2 points).

I don't think the "diet" part is important. Is is healthy and yummy and something you can afford? Then buy it, eat it, and love it. Personally I wouldn't eat wonder bread but others love it. It's whatever you like.

I like either the Nature's Own 100% Whole Wheat Sugar Free at 45 cal a slice and 3 gr of fiber or their regular 100% Whole Wheat at 50 cal a slice and 3 gr of fiber. On the points calculator 2 slices of either is only 1 point and I get 6 grams of fiber. The diet bread we have here always tastes kind of dry, but these are really yummy!
