Pomegranates make a great salad when mixed with orange and grapefruit sections.

Also they are good sprinkled on top of a green salad.

    Thumbs up Re: Whack-A-Pomegranate!

    Great ideas, Donna.

    Kids will love it, Soda!

I wanna' hear back, how it goes for you, Teg and all ~

Can you believe how CLEAN that pomegranate rind is? Shocking. And 1/2 a pomegranate takes 1/2 a minute.

    Hi Ladies,

WWCarol! Thanks for that link... plus it was fun to revisit your site. Your recipes are just my style!

I make my own versions of yum sauce... I make a peanut/garbanzo sauce, a tahini lemon... but I got more ideas from yours!

    Cheers!

It'll be fun to try this. I too, used to very painstakingly remove the little seeds, one by one (or break it into sections and bite off a cluster of them) - this looks like lots more fun.

    Thanks for posting it!

Mmmmm, yours sound good, too, Soya! The Yumm sauce cafe makes "Original", "Chipotle" and "Roasted Garlic". All good.

I did it again this morning, DES. With 8 I think I'll be doing 1-a-day. LOL!

I'm so disappointed. I went to three different stores today, and NONE of them had pomegranates. But next time I see one, I'll know how to deal with it.

    Lightbulb Re: Whack-A-Pomegranate!

I wonder if they're seasonal?...I bet they are.

Googled: "Pomegranate season typically runs from October to January. Although a native fruit of the Mediterranean region (used for thousands of years), most pomegranates found in US markets come from California's San Joaquin Valley." (Only this guy showed how to open a pom in a totally ineffective way...)

    Mine say they're from California.

Found one at our coop - it's organic, and only about the size of a baseball (hardball, not softball...). So I'll get to whack it tomorrow or on the weekend

I did whack my pomegranate. I discovered that mine was past it's prime. I'll pick up another one next week.

I finally whacked mine tonight. It was tiny, and so I was being a little more careful not to whack my hand, but it still worked AMAZINGLY well. Thanks, Carol for this wonderful hint! Ate it with DH, who has never really enjoyed the falderol of eating a pomegranate the way I used to. He just was eating the seeds. When I ate pomegranates in the past (laboriously, 1-3 arils at a time...), I would spit out the seeds. So I tried it - DOH, it finally dawned on me why people eat these in salads (previously, I was thinking, that would be kind of messy and tricky - to spit out the seeds) - the seeds just add a little extra crunch (and fiber). They don't taste bad like the pith does. WAY cool! So thanks again, Carol for posting this!

Oh...too bad, Donna. One of mine had a few bad arils, but otherwise the rest was great. Still eating one-a-day!

Right! It adds a little crunch to a salad. Glad your DH is enjoying it, too!

I'm also going to put them in my VitaMix and make a smoothie. I want to see what that's like with the arils and seeds.

Haven't tried it yet, Soda. I have some POM juice (presqueezed) that I need to use up first.

They have the 48 oz. container now so people can leave their VMs on the counter, all the time under the cabinet. Pretty cool! And I saw the lowest price, with 5 easy payments () on QVC. Only a 5 year warranty, though, instead of the regular 7 year warranty. (And possibly a few other small changes)

Like I say, I always WANT one...even though I have one...

    LOL!
