Default Any convenience foods that are SiFi & good?

I think I will be more successful if I can grab a couple of canned soups that are SiFi acceptable to have on hand for those moments when I'm in a pinch. However, I don't like most of the canned soups. Has anyone tried something worth recommending?

Question Re: Any convenience foods that are SiFi & good?

Sorry, I haven't had any of the soups.

Have you tried Amy's or Muir Glen?

How about the boxed tomato soup/red pepper (don't know the brand name)? And I don't know if it's Core Plan/Filling Food ingredients only?...

I know there are convenience foods that people keep at their desk at work. Are you at work? Or at home? Do you have access to a microwave or a fridge?...

Oh, and what are some of the soups you really didn't like?...

Maybe that will help with suggestions for you ~

I haven't had any canned soup that was healthier that I thought was good. They taste tinny or something. I am at work and have access to fridge and microwave. Maybe I'm going to just have to make up a big batch up soup each weekend. I guess that would work too.

See, that's what I think, too. Tinny...

Unless it's Campbell's Tomato in my Unstuffed Cabbage casserole...

It's just that homemade soups taste sooooooooooo GOOD!

Or if you made a tomato soup at home with canned tomatoes and skim milk and herbs and seasonings (all pureed with an immersion blender), that would be good and SF/Core (and rather convenient).

I make huge batches of soup and freeze it up. Love soup with lots of veggies and nice lean meats and barley.

I wish I knew of convenient SFT's. We're going camping so it will be a challenge. I think I"ll pop up a bunch of popcorn and put it in a large bowl. That could be my snack. Will bring fruit and veggies to grill and salad. And a big batch of my favorite yogurt+fruit+oats. Still I wish I could eat potato chips and nuts on SFT. ROFL

I'm going to try to address the original point of this thread and the camping thing and say I guess most of us "make our own" convenience foods. Which I realize, seems like an oxymoron.

I make large batches of things and have them in individual containers to just grab. Yes you need to cook but then they are CONVENIENT!

And for camping, why not bring/make stuff like chili, grilled chicken, "foil babies" (mix ground meat and veggies in a foil wrapping and cook in the coals)....I also do curried chickpeas with curry. Using canned chickpeas it's very easy...Then there are hot cereals (instant or not) for breakfast...Are you cooking on a fire or a stove? I've done both but obviously a stove is easier. Do a search regarding core and camping. It's come up again and again.

THanks Lynn! I think we'll have a charcoal grill and then possibly camp over the fire. I already make potato packets and thought I would do veggie ones too. It shouldn't be *too* hard as longa s I plan ahead. We'll only be gone for one night b/c of the weather this weekend LOL so it won't be too hard LOL. Still I would really love to dig into a whole bag of chips with dip - Oy!

One of my favorites is Habitat Canadian Yellow pea soup. I also like Cambell's tomato, I must be the minority that does not ,as a rule, like home made soups not that there might be some I might like but I prefer a few canned ones.

    for canned soups, I like:

    Campbells Tomato
    Progresso Vegatable Barley
    Progresson Beef Barley
    Campbells Vegetable Beef
    Campbells Split Pea with Ham
    Campbell Bean and Ham

I always have some of these on hand for a quick lunch, but I don't eat them everyday due to the sodium content

Thanks all. These are great tips. It looks like I will mostly be making my own convenience foods but will also try those canned soups as I think this will still be helpful in a pinch. I'm hoping to find at least one that I like.

Oh..and I am camping this weekend so the foil dinner reminder was helpful too.
