Thread: Baked Beans Question!

    Default Baked Beans Question!

Ok, I have a can of baked beans which are 2 points per 1/2 cup (160 calories, 0.5 grams of fat and 6 grams of fibre). Usually I just say a full cup is 4 points, but does it really work that way, or do I have to add up the numbers from the nutritional info (minus the fibre since it'll always be 4) and get the point that way, because if I do it that way, it ends up on the line between 6 and 7!

You should add up the calories, fat, and fiber for the full cup and figure the Points that way. And you only get "credit" for 4g. fiber.

I am curious as to why you only get credit for 4g fiber? I haven't heard this.

I think it maybe because at one time people were adding fiber to food to make the fiber greater than 4 and then not losing. WW then made the 4 grams of fiber limit.

People were also overeating, because they would concentrate on only eating fiber rich foods, and then they were gaining. Too much food is still too much food, fiber or not. It def. stinks, but I def. worked it at times to get to eat more food, so i can see why they did it!

Fiber has great benefits, so WW encourages us to eat a diet rich in fiber. They do that by giving us a credit against the Points in our food.

But fiber also calories, and those calories do count. WW has determined that 4 g. per serving is the cutoff where we have to start counting.

In the early days of Points, there was no fiber cap, and there were abuses. There was a man in my class that claimed that a vegetarian (bean) chili he liked was free for however much he wanted, 1 can, 2 cans, or more. Probably the most famous is "Bran and Jerry's" where people mixed Fiber 1 or a similar cereal with ice cream to lower the Points of the ice cream. If you do that very much, you will stop losing weight.
