    Thumbs up Hillshire Farms Lunchmeats

Someone at my meeting brought these in lastnight.

Hillshire Farms Deli Select Lunchmeats (they are in a small red box, hanging, near the pre-sliced stuff).
They have different kinds of ham, turkey, chicken, roast beef, pastrami and corned beef. I am a big lunchmeat fan for salads, but have been staying away b/c they can be high in points. These aren't though. Most of them are 1 or 2 pts for 5-6 pieces. They are thin slices, but are really good. They are higher in fiber and lower in calories and sodium than regular lunch meats.
Price wise, near me, they are about $1.89 for about 1/4 to 1/2 lb.

I hope you all don't mind my excitement and wanting to share!

I'm glad you shared this. It looks good. I've got it on my shopping list to look for it this weekend.

Actually, the deli meats I buy are very low in points. And they aren't "lite". You can ask at the deli counter for the nutrition info. Most of the brands of turkey and ham I buy are only 1 point for 2 ounces. I suppose the same doesn't hold true for beefs or salami-type meats but there are some excellent brands that are great and low point. I don't care for the pre-packaged ones so much.

I eat quite a bit of deli meats and have found some good ones such as the Land-O-Frost (found at Walmart). They have a great taste and with 1 point worth of meat and 1 point worth of wheat bread, lots of lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and onions, a little ff or lf mayo, you have a 2 to 3 point lunch! I also found the ff Pringles, only 1 point for 14 chips, they go great with the sandwich!

    Debi-
What other brands have you found?
I haven't been able to find any others yet (like the Land-O-Frost- I don't think they carry it here). I would be excited to have a bunch of options!

Our Giant Eagle chains sell Dietz & Watson lunch meats. They are pricey but really tasty and many are low in points.

Oscar Mayer shaved deli meat in the hard plastic container is also 1 point for 6 slices of meat for the turkey and chicken (not sure about the ham as I don't eat that). That's all I was buying until I recently found the Hillshire Farms deli meat.

The ham by Oscar Myer is also 1 point for 6 slices. UNLESS you get the brown sugar ham then it is 1 point for 4 slices.

I've never been good at the whole conversion thing - how many slices (give or take) of a normally sliced deli-counter meat is 2oz? Without buying a scale, is there an easy way to estimate? I find I'm always off!

When I'm at home, I weigh the food. It gives me a constant reminder of accurate portion sizes while helping me learn for those times when I don't have a scale. I often find that weighing the food gives me more. If I count out 15 baked chips I miss a few because weighing them usually gives me a few more.
