    Default Popcorn confusion...

    I have been eating light popcorn as a snack. Until Saturday when my husband had some and was figuring out his points and corrected me. Apparently where the NI says makes about 5 cups popped that is not the whole bag but only the 2 tbsp unpopped. So, I have been eating 5 points instead of 2! How stupid of me!!

    Oh dear!!! There are small "personal sizes" pocorn bags that are only 1 pt. per bag...maybe that is where the confusion came from. Double check in the store next time you are there! So sorry...but you know, I but the weight that I personally put on didn't come from popcorn!

    Most of the 94 percent FF popcorns are only 2.5 to 4 points. I eat Jolly Time and it is 2.5 for the whole bag. Then I add a little spray butter.

    The big bags are generally 4 points for the entire bag. I did the same thing forever!!! I was counting as 2.

    Don't worry, that wasn't stupid. Popcorn's nutritional info confuses EVERYONE!

    Thanks for the encouragement. Luckily at w.i. laast night I still lost! I will look for the personal size bags or the ff kind! At least I wasn't confused on the amount of chocolate I could eat.

    OK Add me to the list of confused.

    I have been eating Orville R. 94% fat free individual bags. Per the nutritional facts, I have been counting the bag as one point. Help me understand, please, if I'm wrong.

    Fiber = 4g
    Calories = 100
    Fat = 2g

    Per my slider, this fall into the one point range?

    Cyndy,

    You are right, the small bags are one point. The bigger bags range from 2.5 to 4 points.

    Dont feel bad. We made the same mistake...until one day we figured it out.

    I love the small bags!

    I had this confusion too.

    The "unpopped" serving size doesn't correspond the "popped" serving size on the bag. Consequently, the servings per bag can't just be multiplied by the "popped" information.

    Really confusing.

    I think my 94% FF bags came out to 5 points.

    This is my favorite snack, since joining WW. I buy the Jolly Time individual bags. They are really high in fiber! (9grams!) Only 1 point per bag!

    Pop Secret makes 100 calorie bags which are just the right amount and only 1 point (I think, I'm trying to remember off the top of my head). I love the Kettle Corn flavor.

    OK. I'm lost. I am looking at Jolly Time 94% Fat Free - Healthy Pop - Butter Flavor microwave popcorn. It reads as follows...

    Serving size: 2 Tbsp unpopped, 5 cups popped
    Servings per bag: 2.5 (about 12.5 cups popped)

    Calories: As pkgd 2 Tbsp unpopped = 90 | 1 cup popped = 20
    Total Fat: 2g
    Dietary fiber: 9g

    So what the heck does that mean if I eat the whole bag?

    If I had to guess I would say 250 calories, 2 g fat, 9 g fiber or 4 points per bag.

    This is how I started making my popcorn on the stove top again!!!! Too much math. Honestly, I would pop the bag and measure it out a few times and count the total cups eaten at the time and then I would think it would be safe to use that in the future without measuring.

    I emailed Jolly Time sometime ago and asked for them to give me the point value and I was told 2.5 and that is what I have always gone by.

    Count me in as one of the confused!!! I have been wondering about this. I've been counting a whole bag of 94% Orville as 2 points! I was WAY off! Is it really 5 points? No wonder I see a better loss on the weeks i didn't eat popcorn. But I love it! I did buy a hot air popper a week ago, though. I think that might be the best way to go! With some spray butter or spray canola oil so the salt with stick (and I do count the point for the spray oil). I just didn't realize I was so off on the bags of microwave popcorn!

    I am an airpopped popcorn freak, not only is it core, if you're doing flex it's 1pt for 3 cups. We use the olive oil spray to give it a buttery flavor, works like a charm and both of my kids, teens, are doing WW as well, they use the flavored sprinkles on theirs. The best part.. no opportunity to burn!
