Thread: Use the book or the NI on the package

Default Use the book or the NI on the package

Here's my question, using black beans as an example.

Book says, 1/2C is 2 points.

If I follow the NI on the package its 1.

The real conundrum is this, if I eat a whole can (it's in a salad with no meat), is the 1 3/4 C serving 7 points (like the book would suggest) or 4 points (like the can would suggest)?

Can NI is (per 1/2 C) 70 calories, 1 gram fat, 7 grams fiber. If I multiply by 3.5 and keep the 4 grams of fiber cap it's still 4 points.

so is it 4 or 7?

    Hello!

I would use the can's NI to calculate the points used. The book would be a guideline, but if you have the actual stats, it would be more correct.

    Hope this helps!

Always use the ni on the package, or the ni provided by a restaurant. The book, or the WW online, is just for general reference and can be used if you don't have the actual ni available.

Use the package NI!!! My leader just went over this last week and there were several differences between the book and the actual NI off the packages (these were comments from other members finding discrepancies). I've since started checking all the labels and using that info and it has saved me some points!

My book only comes out for desperate measures. it is meant to be used when you don't have the info you need. they go for the higher end of the points values on different types of the same food, so that people don't saboutage themselves. always used the info for the specific food if you have it.

Good, that's what I've been doing. It saves me lots of points too. The difference between 4 and 7 is too huge when you only have 22 for the day and don't want to have too few for dinner.

BTW, I had the best black bean taco salad for lunch. It was plenty of lettuce (maybe 4 cups), salsa, jalapenos, and the entire (drained) can of black beans. The beans only came out to 1 C but I counted the entire salad as 4 points since there was alot of lettuce and jalapenos too. Tons of fiber, I shouldn't be hungry for quite a while.

    Thanks for the help.
