    Whole Wheat Bread I

    Recipe By : nancyny's grandmother
    Serving Size : 48 Preparation Time :0:00
    Categories : Breads

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
    -------- ------------ --------------------------------
    5 cups whole wheat flour
    2 cups water -- lukewarm
    1/2 cup milk -- lukewarm
    2 envelopes yeast
1 1/2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
    1 1/2 tablespoons Molasses
    1 tablespoon salt
    1/2 stick butter or margarine

Put sugar, molasses, salt, and butter in a bol with the warm milk.
Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water; add to first mix. Add flour - beat with
mixer. Proceed as with white bread; makes 2 loaves. bake at 325 degrees
    F 40-45 min.

(That means turn out on board; knead; put in greased bowl and let rise
until doubled; punch down; knead again and form 2 loaves; put in greased
loaf pans; let rise until doubled; bake as directed)

You can freeze the bread after baking, or freeze the dough until you are ready to bake it. To freeze, wrap in plastic wrap or put in a plastic bag and freeze. To use, thaw dough in refrigerator and then bring to room temperature. Form loaf and let rise and bake as usual. It will rise very slowly in the refrigerator, so give it room.

I have started making 3 loaves with approx. 1 lb. dough each. At 16 slices
per loaf, This makes 1 slice = 1 point.

    With 2 loaves, at 16 slices per loaf, 1 slice = 1 point, 2 slices = 3
    points. (1 slice = 87 cal., 2 g fiber, 2 g fat).

NOTES : I got this recipe from my grandmother. She ran a small bakery business out of her home during the Great Depression to supplement the family income.

I am going to try this, cutting it down to 1 tbs butter, 1 tbs grapeseed oil. Does anyone know how that changes the point value? I am trying to find the 1 point for 2 slice homemade bread recipe I saw on here last week SOMEWHERE...hee hee hee.

The main way you get 1 pt. for 2 slice bread is to slice the bread VERY thin.
