Default Do you ever just want to have a really bad meal?

Before WW, I'm sure we've all had a meal that was absolutly our favorite, maybe with some unhealthy items, maybe just volume, or a name brand. We would eat it frequently wouldn't worrying about it.

But then we got on WW and counted out the points, and said WHAT? How many points is that???!!!

So now if you want that meal, you have to cut it down, skip it, skim it, substitute it, whatever.

Do you ever have the urge to have it just the way you used to? Even if it would detriment your dailies + weeklies??

And if so- how do you deal with that?

Thats me.
I work foods over in my mind way before I pick up fork and knife.
I had one dish I loved from Taco Bell ( taco hell) They brought it back for a special promotion so I saved up my points and went for it. I was so dissappointed. It was so greasy that I felt unclean. I felt like I needed a shower after.....

My problem is that I have a very good imagination and a very poor memory.......

I feel that way sometimes- I think it is human nature. I have really learned to cook and find substitutions that I really do enjoy. For example, pizza made at home with whole wheat dough. Cesear salad made with yogurt based dressing. Sometimes I feel like when I am craving something, I am really just wanted to EAT, not necessarily eat what I am craving. I have learned to be satisfied and crave and want other types of food. But, if there is something I really want, I just plan for it. Earn APs, save up my WAPs, and have it. Feeling deprived is really no way to live. This will never ever work for life if you feel like you can never have another cupcake again!!! Its just having 20 cupcakes in one sitting that we should avoid.

Ru - I think it's very natural to feel that way. The reason many of us are overweight is because we can't or couldn't learn to control those desires.

I still struggle with binging on occasion. It's more of a habit that I'm trying to break than a real desire for a certain food.

Don't let yourself believe that you can't ever have something again. Then you'll start to derail yourself with that thinking. If you do want a "really bad meal," post about it here. Warn the BCBers that it might be a trigger post but ask us what to do.

Is there something in particular you are craving? Maybe we can help come up with a reasonable substitute OR a plan to earn the points so you can enjoy it.

Yes, sometimes I will get a true craving for a "bad meal". At first I ignore the thought but it creeps back in. For example I crave fast food about twice a year. The thought of the food will reappear over the next week or so. I know its not going away, its a real craving. So I plan for it and I have it. And its never as good as my imagination has conjured up. And then I am done. And I can move on. The thought is gone.

I have noticed that now I will also crave a "good meal". (funny how we deifine foods .) Like sometimes I just want a baked potato and until I have it, the thought is there. Of course its alot easier to spend the points on a baked potato isn't it?

And when I do eat outside my norm my body sure feels it. I can relate to CWs greasy feeling. Uck that sure helps keep me on the right path!

I agree with all about that greasy feeling. It's amazing when you feed your body good food, it no longer can stand the bad food. I also agree with Lisa when she says sometimes we are just hungry and want to eat, and cravings come in.

Yes I also feel like I really want to have a bad meal. If I have the points, I go for it. If I don't I really struggle with the thought in my mind. I know that if I give in I will be having bad meals more and more often. I believe that your body can get used to have this food often or not as often. It's up to you.

Talking Re: Do you ever just want to have a really bad meal?

Well I had a VERY bad meal last night. Bad as in calories/fat - but it was fantastic. It was my 40th birthday dinner and it was amazing. Yes I know I should have saved my points but it would have taken me a month to save the points I ate. My husband made it perfectly clear that I wasn't permitted to count a thing last night and I didn't. He had been planning for my birthday for the past three months and I was very grateful. Do I regret it? Absolutely not. I had the best birthday that I can recall and it wasn't just the food - that was a small part. I did not overeat but what I ate was extremely high in points. Today, I'm back on the wagon again until my 50th birthday . I'm actually proud of myself because the past 4 times I joined WW - I would have one bad day and that would be it - I would quit until I gained so much weight back I joined again. Not anymore. This has now become my lifestyle and I feel so much better for it.

Browndog- I did not mean in the sense of going off program. Here at BCB, we don't go off program, as stated in the BCB Philospohy:

"A BCB does not ever DELIBERATELY go off program for ANY REASON. There are NO EXCUSES for ever going off program. We will face challenges each day of our life, and have to learn that stress or social situations are not reason to go off program."

Red face Re: Do you ever just want to have a really bad meal?

RU -

Simply stated, I am a foodie! I love food and I find myself craving various foods... well... all the time. Anything from my favorite buffalo wings to pizza to chocolate. I have however, realized that these cravings are easily overcome but just eating something else that satisfies my hunger. Once I have eaten a reasonable meal and then think about the craving when I'm full, I find that I no longer have those cravings... I'm too full!!

I do think though, that what it all comes down to is willpower. In the end, it can be the only thing that saves us. It can be soooo hard in the beginning but with the proper training, the right tools, and the right support we can achieve anything, right? Put yourself in the state of mind that it just ISN'T an option. You will feel so much better the next day when you have overcome your craving without adding the Points to your tracker!!

Just remember... "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!"

Good luck!

Julie

My absolute favorite meal is shrimp and vegetable tempura with a side of either spider or bri sushi. Nowdays, I skip a side order of anything and either have the tempura or the sushi by itself.
I plan for this--it is an extravagant expenditure of points. I have my sushi/tempura only if I have the points to cover it and I only eat these foods about every other month. Do I feel guilty? Absolutely not.
Yea gods and goddesses....I've cut out caffeine, sugar, sugar substitute, and salt (well...added salt. If ingredients I cook with have salt *eh* [shrugs]). Giving up my very occasional tempura/sushi is where I draw the line....no--absolutely no--way.
