Hi Sara! Welcome to the nest. I must have totally missed your post when I posted this afternoon. A triathalon....Now THAT'S a major life's accomplishment. Last year I had lofty thoughts about aiming for a biathlon (biking, running) but didn't stick it out with training (I gave up after about 3 months). The bottom line...I am one slow SLOW runner. But, I still treadmill 3-4 miles every day.
BTW ladies, I made a WW soup for dinner tonight which my whole family enjoyed as a first dish. It's easy and filling! Nuthatch, this is the recipe you gave me about a month ago.
CREAM OF BROCCOLI SOUP
Makes 4 (2 cup) servings
3 pts/serving
Ingredients
1 medium onion(s), large chopped
2 garlic clove(s), minced
2 pound broccoli, tough ends removed, stems and florets chopped
3 14 oz cans chicken broth
1 cup fat-free evaporated milk
hot pepper sauce (a few dashes or to taste)
1/8 tsp table salt, or to taste
1/8 tsp black pepper, or to taste
garlic powder - a few dashes to enhance flavor of soup
Instructions
1. Put onion and garlic in a 2-quart saucepan with 1/4 cup water and simmer until onion is soft, about 10 minutes; spoon into a large pot.
2. Add broccoli and chicken stock to onion mixture and bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, turn down heat and simmer until broccoli is soft but still green, about 10 minutes. Do not cover pot as broccoli is cooking or it will turn gray.
3. Remove soup from heat and puree in blender (in small batches) until smooth. (Note: Be careful not to overfill blender to prevent the hot liquid from splattering.) Return pureed soup to pot, add evaporated milk and hot pepper sauce. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Bring soup back to a simmer to thicken up slightly.
Bon Appetite! ;)

I don't know what happened but when I logged on to my laptop I was lost and had to redo my settings to post again. During that time I see we have a few more "birds" in the nest and that Trish started a new thread. This is really a good idea to cut off a thread after about 20 posts or else it gets hard to follow. So here we are in New/Improved 4 the Birds #2. Let's GO!
Another good day for me. I walked for 80 minutes. :exercise2 Trish, you are walking 3-4 miles a day? How long have you been doing that? That's really admirable. Keep it up. I'm going to try to follow your good example and walk outdoors every day.
Well now, am I the only backyard birder on this "birding" thread? I had a merlin or small hawk hanging about today waiting to dive bomb unsuspecting birds at the feeders. Fortunately my cousin noticed it and scared it away. The Canada Geese have been flying formation for about 3 weeks getting their pecking order sorted out before heading south. Several swarms of various species have stopped by on their way south also. Soon the rush will be over and I'll be back to the "regulars" that will hang about all winter. I am anticipating the hummers will remain again this year also. Trish I know you are a backyard birder............what's going on in your yard these days? Anything interesting?
Just a friendly reminder of our 1st official weigh in on Thursday.
We are only reporting losses :D and or gains  so you don't have to divulge your weight if you don't want to.
Remember 'Walkers' report your hours walked for the week also :exercise2 That includes the "Treadmillers" too.

OK, I have no problem with switching my weigh-in day to Thursday....HOWever, I just got a new "WW" scale today, it is digital and WAY more accurate than the one I have now (which is the dial type, yuk!) . So I am a little concerned about the discrepancy that there might be with this new scale. With my current scale I weigh 164  ....so we'll see what Thursday brings! I always weigh myself right after I go pee in the morning, before I eat, and always naked,(am I the only one who does that??) lol!
Cross your fingers for me that the scale won't be too far off (in the wrong direction!)

You are not alone my friend, I do the same! LOL As for your new scales don't worry about a discrepancy. They will probably weigh you the same as at a WW meeting so now you'll not be fooling yourself. When I switched over to a digital (best thing I ever did) I weighed exactly the same as on the WW scale and 3#'s more than on my dial scale. I just sucked it up and realized it's not the number that really mattered, it was the weekly losses that mattered most to me.
Hello Sara. Sorry I didn't welcome you but I was in the midst of computer problems and got behind on reading new posts. Sooooo WELCOME! I'll probably get back later today but for now, I better quite messing about and get on with the things I should be doing right now.

LOL Peggy!!!
Nuthatch---I don't actually GO to weight watchers meetings, so I have never been weighed there....I'm just worried that the 5 lbs. I've actually LOST (according to my dial scale) won't be true! Or I'll weigh more than my dial scale says :ugh: EEEEK!
Peggy, I was laughing so hard at your post...it sounds so much like me! If I could poop at will in the mornings I would do it before WI.....:D

Wow, I can see I missed some things since I was here last. I want to welcome all the new members to the nest. Hope everyone is doing well. I am having a hard time here. The stress just never seems to stop mounting. Got to my WW meeting for a WI at least today and that is a positive. I went down .2 lbs. Not much, but it brought me to exactly 80 lbs gone now. I was expecting a bit of a bigger loss, seeing how I maintained last week, but TOM is still not here yet...probably tomorrow. Anyhow, down is down and that's what counts!
Well, I just wanted to stop by and let everyone know I am still here and even if I don't get to post, I am reading your posts. Oh and Trish, thanks for the recipe...one of my favorites. Gotta go...my youngest will be in the door from school any minute and homework...UGH!!!
Take care and have a great OP day!

Looks like another multiple-post day for me. Peggy, did I miss you earlier or have you just joined us? In any case, WELCOME!
Kelly don't worry, you will have lost that 5#'s no matter what scale you weigh on. If there is a difference in your dial scale and your new digital scale that won't matter as far as the 5#'s go. The only difference might be your weight on your new scale. Let us know how it goes. BTW when I got my digital scale I sat them side by side and first thing in the morning (you know the drill LOL) I first stepped on the dial scale then immediately on the digital to see what the difference was. After that, toss the dial scale and enjoy seeing not only the pounds but the ounces disappear.
I'm taking a day off walking today since I've walked every day this week. I read somewhere you are supposed to have a rest day. Today's it for me. :headover:

New and improved 4 the birds? Wow! That is good news because I tried the old and unimproved site several months ago. I finally gave up because I never felt the "two ladies" were interested in my WW journey.
Back then, in February, I had set a goal of losing 28 lbs. The first 20 lbs. were "fairly" easy but these last eight are M-U-R-D-E-R. Talk about a yo-yo. Lose a lb; gain 2; lose 2; gain one. I don't know if I'll ever make it.
But for sure, BCB is so helpful.
So, I am hoping you will welcome me to your nest. Please check out my profile.

:welcome: Sophie!! I have only been a part of this entire website for a week or so, and already this is my favorite spot to post....
So far, any concerns I've had, these wonderful gals have helped me out!
First of all congrats on your weight loss :workout: that is a great accomplishment!
I can only imagine how hard those last few pounds are....but you're almost there! Just hang in there and keep on truckin'... lol. Btw, I read somewhere that once you reach that "spot" where you have a hard time getting those last few pounds off you have to kick it up a notch. More vigorous exercise :work_out: less calories, fat, etc. I don't know if it works because I just started....I've got 40 + pounds to go yet!
Anyway...welcome....we are so glad to have you here!
P.S. Gals---- As soon as I WI in the morning, I will be here to post...GOOD LUCK TOMORROW EVERYONE ---- *think thin* :p

Nutchatch, I skipped tonight for exercise as well. I'm not sure how good it is to do strenuous exercise 7 days a week. Besides physically giving our bodies a rest, I think we will burn ourselves out very quickly if we go full speed ahead all the time with it.
How goes the water drinking everyone? Managing to get down at least 4-6 glasses a day? I'm still running to the bathroom every hour on the hour (lol!) and praying that my body starts adjusting to this increased liquid intake REALLY soon! My friends must think I have bladder issues!
Trish
PS. Welcome Sophie. We have a great group of gals here who are all gung ho and enthusiastically doing their very best! to be successful "losers!" It should be a happy, positive experience for everyone.

I have to say I am struggling soooooo bad with this!! I drink diet sodas and I drink coffee....those have water in them! :embarrass
I need some ideas on how to make this easier for me to do....
I just got back from a 1.7 mi. walk tonight....my legs feel like jello now! My pedometer said I walked 2061 steps...not bad! And I finished my 1.7 mi. in a little over 30 min. I have no idea if that is good or not....but I am starting S L O W .....
K---see ya'll tomorrow!

Well, it's 6:30 in the morning, I've weighed myself.....
and it's just what I was afraid of.....my new scale says 167 :sobbing:
My old dial scale had been saying 164 for the past week and a half!
I'm alot bummed, I'm going back to bed......
Action Potential
09-15-2005, 10:15 AM
Kelly, get out of bed and come back! Weighing on the new scale DOESN'T necessarily mean you didn't lose. This one may be calibrated slightly differently and you just have a different reference point. The exact same thing could happen if you went to a WW meeting in one place and then attended a different one the following week. Do not dispair! You're efforts are not in vain. You've been on program all week, done a great job exercising, and are enthusiastically motivated. From this day forward the new scale will be the reference. It's as simple as that. Don't be bummed. I guarantee you that next week you'll be doing cartwheels!
As for the water drinking....I have a hard time with that too. I think most of us do. If you gave me a choice (during the day) of coffee or plain water, I'd would pick coffee or other beverage hands down. The ONLY way I've been able to balance the water intake is to promise myself that for every cup of non-water beverage that I drink, I will have at least an equal amount of water. So...I still down the caffeine hit on the way to school, but then I nurse a bottle of water while in class (as I promised) for the next hour or so. The down side is that I'm in the bathroom constantly, but this arrangement has helped me cut down on the caffeine and also helped in getting in the required water.
Now for the good news: WI results for today... -2.5 lbs! YEAH!!!!
Nuthatch...we're waiting on your WI results! Donna, what day are you officially weighing in? Sophie?
Have a great OP day everyone! I'm off to the races.

Kelly-pleased don't be bummed...you didn't gain any, I am sure it is just the difference in the scale. Did you do what Nuthatch said she did? Putting them side by side and comparing the two. ((((HUGS)))) to you! I was just wondering if you measure yourself. Sometimes we lose but it's in inches and not on the scale. This has made me feel better when the scale goes up or when I maintain, sometimes the loss is in inches.
I am so happy this morning. Went to Curves and got my name put up on the wall on a sneaker...I lost 12 inches in the last 2 months. TOM finally arrived and I lost my 2.2 lbs that should have showed yesterday...Dang TOM! Well, the main thing is that I am down...yesterday or today makes no difference.
Have a great OP day everyone.

Yes, I know I know....I didn't end up going back to bed, I took a shower instead (I made my nine year old get up early to watch the other two, lol) I was bummed (still kinda am) but I'm getting over it. I, unfortunately, happen to be one of those people that needs to see results.....Fast! It's been three weeks, I've been OP almost every single day, I've had maybe 3 slip-ups, which is really good for me. I've been exercising, which is also really good for me! My water consuption could be better, but I am working on it....I just feel like I've been soooooo good, so a loss would have just vindicated that.
Tell me how to go about measuring, and what to measure...I'd love to do that once a week too! I'd love to see inches gone too!
Wtg on your loss, Trish and Donna!!! I'm so proud of you :jumprope:

I'm a happy camper today.........Drumroll please
DOWN - 4#'s
WEEKLY WALKING TOTAL - 5 hours 46 minutes
After that said, I do realize this is the first week weight loss which is always much more than I can expect in the following weeks. Most of that would have been fluid, but hey, I'll take it. :D
Kelly please don't dispair. You DID lose that 5#'s no matter what the new scale is telling you. If you want to be accurate and possibly feel better about it, add the 3#'s difference to your start weight. After all that is what your weight really was. Remember what I said earlier, my digital scale weighed me 3#'s more than my dial scale but now I know the weight is accurated. As for your walking, you are doing great! Keep it up and keep building one little success on the other. Before long these little successes add up to one BIG SUCCESS..........GOAL! WooHoo!
Who's in for next week's weigh-in on Thurs. Sept. 22?
Who's in for next week's total walking time (not miles) ?
Let's make our second week something to smile about!

WTG Nuthatch...you did wonderful. Keep up the great work.
Kelly-Get yourself a tape measure and measure around your upper arm, your bust, your waist, your hips and your upper thigh. Write it all down and then next time, do the same and compare. I really love that I have lost those inches in my legs. I have long legs, and even still, they look like redwood trees. My thighs are huge and even my ankles are 11 inches around. I hate it, but I have always had legs like this, even when I was thin. So it's so nice to see the inches go down, helps me to stay motivated. Not sure if you will see a significant difference in a week, that's why Curves does it once a month. Then you get a bigger difference too. Keep up the great job you are doing and work on one thing at a time. You will get overwhelmed if you try to change too many habits at once. Maybe work on walking until you get going at it, then work on your water intake. Once that is going great then move on to something else. This is all going to take time and don't worry about how fast the weight comes off...you will get to goal and have a better chance of staying there, if you take it slow. (((Hugs)))

NUTHATCH...THE BEST "LOSER" THIS WEEK!!
Wonderful wonderful wonderful
Oh, let's keep this going till it's gone!! Permanently and at goal. I'm in for another week. Donna, I'm going to start measuring too. The last time I started treadmilling, I had exactly what you described. I lost inches not pounds.
Forgot to post my exercise time
total treadmill time: 256 minutes (18.3 miles) :race:
BTW Nuthatch, how are the goldfinches at your feeders? Still have a lot? Mine have definitely dwindled in the last few weeks (not sure where they've gone) and their colors have already faded dramatically. You're not putting suet out already are you? It's still so early.

I was going to start the #3 thread but I can't find the "New Thread" button. Trish did you take it? I like your idea about getting together in the Chat Room. Let's do it! Your 256 minutes on the treadmill worked out to a total of 4 hr. 16 min. @ 4.4 mph for the week. That's quite a clip your walking at Trish. Well done! I can't sustain 4 mph yet but I'm working up to it. My walks are averaging about 3.5 mph so watch out Miss Fast Feet, I'm coming to get you! :exercise2
