My mother recently became very ill, and was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. To see her work all her life, retire and build her dream home, begin to enjoy life, then to be struck down brings such sadness to our family. Tonight, she's resting comfortably in the ICU, having contracted a bacterial infection in her lung. We also found that her platelet count was virtually non-existent, and learned that not only does she have the Lymphoma, but also Lukemia and Anemia, which is why the good cells are destroyed quicker than they can be transfused. My mother is a young, vibrant 58.
Last night I also got a call from my stepmother in Iowa. My father is in the hospital for complications to his own cancer. He had been getting treatment for prostate cancer, which has now spread rapidly into the colon. He will now be scheduled for a colonectomy, where they will try to save enough so that he does not need a colostomy, but that is not looking bright. My father is 67 years old.
I have been appointed as the primary everything for my mom's care and beyond, and I feel a huge weight on my shoulders. I feel like I may not be good enough for the task, and don't know the first thing about planning for the future of my mother's disease and treatment (and beyond). On top of it all, my older brother's never-ending irresponsibility has reared its ugly head yet again...and J and I have discussed taking in his 16 year old to live with us. At 27, I hardly know how to deal with a teenager. But God will help, and I know that I have wonderful GFs here who support me a million percent. For that, I am greatful.
I feel silly asking for your thoughts and prayers in this time of need in the south, but if you can, please send a small prayer for health and strength my way for my parents and family.
Thank you very much.

Kat I will be praying for you and your family. I am so sorry that you have to go thru this, and with what seems to be no help from your brother. Then to top it off have to take in his 16 year old too. But God will give you wisdom and strength to get thru this.I pray that he will send people your way to help you make the decisions that need to be made. Also don't feel bad about bringing this to the bcb for prayer just because we have alot of prayer time going for the south, there is never anything too important that we can not call on God to help us with, and he cares for you and your family at this time of need just like he cares for the Hurricane victims, Hang in there, and GOd Bless

My thoughts & prayers are with u, Buddy ! You certainly have alot on your plate. May God give you grace & strength thru this & i pray HEALING for both of your parents ! (those 3 words were the same diagnosis they gave my Dad = Lymphoma, Lukemia, and Anemia) But I know that NOTHING is too difficult for God, & i know He is still in the "miracle business" of HEALING !
I will pray ... & sending u Hugs , now, too .....

Thank you so much. I have never had GFs like I do here, and its so hard for me to ask for help, no less prayers from anyone. But I am learning that there are others who do support me, and that there's nothing like a girlfriend! Right Misty?! Another of my awesome Buddies told me that God never gives you more than he thinks you can handle. So I'm putting my trust in that right now, because it sure is hard.
On a lighter side, something worked, because mom is out of ICU tonight and back in the regular oncology ward. I am relieved! But there are stil more things to come. The infection in her lung looks like it is Valley Fever, so there's lots of treatment to be done.
I just wish I new all the answers. Don't we all?
Thanks again for your prayers, and for letting me vent too :embarrass :p ;) .

I am so happy to hear that your mom is out of ICU Kat. God listens to us and answers our prayers. Sometimes we may not think he listens but you are looking at proof he does. I went through alot for the past three months and all of my prayers have been answered and Logan is getting back to himself finally. He is going to have a huge scar to remind him of what happened but he is going to be back to being a normal kid before long. Please keep us posted on your parents and know that you can always lean on me. Love ya!
