i am inept with computers ....
i received "fatal error -1603" when i was trying to install MasterCook 8.
My virus scanner and Zone Alarm are off.
and it said something about Msichm and MSDN but i can't find that to help me figure out what to do!

Can someone help pointme in the right direction? (In REAL baby steps) I was so psyched to get started tonight on recipes

Well ... i downloaded the Service Pack 2 for Windows XP, as i saw suggested in a previous post.

It took FOREVER to get rebooted and get my logon screen to come on the pc. But it did come one (after about 10 minutes of waiting .. it never did that before).

I was able to get Mastercook installed ... just hope that it won't take forever to keep loading any more! I'm truly not pc literate! :embarrass

Well ... i got MC to work .. and both imported and exported my first recipe! I posted the WW Chicken FOntina under the Poultry thread. I'll have to figure out how to add ingredients, like the lower fat cheeses and margarines next, so i can see if it changes the point values. I am feeling stupidly proud right now :embarrass

But I'll need to see why the pc opens slower now :ugh: (Note: comment re: pc ineptness still stands! Grinning)

Hi! I just saw this post, and I'mn sorry that I wasn't able to give you any information.

As to why your pc is slower, it may have something to do with the service pak you installed. My husband installed one on his laptop that caused such "damage" that he had to have the OS reinstalled without the service pak. If you have anyone who is a techie, you might ask them about the conflicts your system might be expirencing now with the new updates. My PC takes a lot longer to boot than is used to as well. Darn Microsoft!
