Some one talked yesterday about the foods that you cant do without on core, and that also started me to thinking about the foods i have and prepare that can be quickly thrown together to make a meal much faster and better than the take out man. These are the things i DO and always have on HAND and it makes life so much easier.

1. pregrilled chicken strips--costco has them--and they are GREAT--you can throw them into any casserole, soup or recipe and its just like you just cooked them
2. home made veggie soup--i make a batch, and then i can it with ball jars and store in the freezer or the fridge--that way, i can just toss in other ingredients and make a stew or chilli or just have soup. And you can make this soup so easily--i will post a separate thread for the soup.
3. Meat sauce--when i make a batch, i double it and then can it as well and freeze it--you can make spaggeti, pour it over rice or add beans and make chilli--you can even add baked beans and a pinch of splenda and make sloppy joes.
4. hard cooked eggs--in a pinch, some carrot sticks an orange and a boiled egg make a great quick meal.
5. Cordys or carols oatmeal scones--i cook a batch, put some in the freezer and some in the fridge--pop in the microwave to heat--awesome.
6. Trader joes frozen brown rice--this saves so much time its not even funny--come to think of it, trader joes frozen veggies, fruits, buffalo burgers and cereal are staples of my life....
7. smart balance popcorn--if i have a salt attack, this is what i have
8. cut up veggies--if i dont have the baby carrots and stuff ready--they ROT in the fridge--also, i now use frozen in most recipes, cuts out the cleaning time and they never go bad--if some frozen stuff gets burn--just pop it in the soup.
9. Cartoned eggwhites and salsa--put a raw egg in a microwave safe dish, pour in some egg whites, a dash of water and a generous spoon ful of salsa, cover with paper and microwave for a few minutes--and you have an egg souffle that is to die for--even my kids love this~
10. cook pasta in bulk--bionature is a great whole wheat pasta--measure out cup portions into zip lock bags and freeze--take out as many as you need for the family when you need it.
11. Jarred black bean sauce--it can change any steamed vegetables into a chinese feast in the microwave--put frozen rice, frozen chicken, frozen veggies (or all leftovers) into the microwave and cook till almost done--add a dash of hot sauce if you like, soy sauce and a generous spoonful of black bean sauce--toss, and cook through--awesome~~
12. i almost forgot trader joes precooked buffalo burgers...these might not be Exactly core, but are lower in fat than ground beef taste great and when your family is enjoying barbecue, one of these with a slice of soy cheese, some pickles on an ezeikel bread roll is divine~~~ add some fresh corn and salad and you are full~ watermelon kicks it for desert~

so, what do you ladies do, to help stay on core????anything to spice things up for myself would be welcome~~~

hey carol, Asian Gourmet makes authentic black bean sauce--i think i got it at a health food store, but on the back of the label it says that the product is packaged for HL benndorf corp and for information call 1-800-257-6174 ext, 225. the sauce does have a high fat content, but its from sesame oil, which is one of the good oils--i usually drain off the oil, which separates, or count the oil in the serving as part of my 2 tsps. :) hope that helps~!
