Activity
How important is activity on our journey’s to be healthy?
It is extremely important that we add activity in to help us lose weight and keep it off

Some benefits of Activity
Cardio/Heart health
Metabolism
Endorphins/elevated mood
More motivated to keep going
Look better
Sleep better
Increased energy

Some obstacles that may get in our way of getting in exercise
Time
Kids
Chores
Obligations

Some thing to think about, 50 years ago, due to the lack of conveniences we burned an average of 500 more calories a day than we do now. So we need to try and work in a way to burn off 500 calories a day. If not, 500 calories a day would lead to 3500 calories a week, which =’s 1 lb. We could perpetually gain 1 lb. a week if we don’t add in more activity.

Watching TV
Day time = 21 minutes of commercials an hour
Evening = 16 minutes of commercials an hour
Try and do something during those minutes, climb stairs, grab some weights and work those bat wings, shoulders, do crunches, do something

Try and get more activity in through out the day, and also, try and get some aerobic exercise in. Think like a kid, be a kid and do things you enjoy!

My leader then shared with us the story of the carpenter:

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to leave the house building business and live a more leisurely life with his wife, enjoying his extended family. He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by.
The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end his career.
When the carpenter finished his work and the builder came to inspect the house, the contractor handed the front door key to the carpenter. "This is your house," he said, "my gift to you."
What a shock! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently. Now he had to live in the home he had built none too well.
So it is with us. We build our lives in a distracted way, reacting rather than acting, willing to put up less than the best. At important points we do not give the job our best effort.
Then with a shock we look at the situation we have created and find that we are now living in the house we have built. If we had realized the outcome, we would have done it differently.
Think of yourself as the carpenter. Think about your house. Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. Build wisely.
It is the only life you will ever build. Even if you live it for only one day more, that day deserves to be lived graciously and with dignity.
Remember, "Life is a do-it-yourself project."

So….. Do what you can to improve your body, do the maintenance on your body to keep it a wonderful place to live for a very long time, what you do now, will pay off in the years to come.

I am trying to tighten up my loose skin around my abs. I have been doing 300 or more abs every day since 12/31/04. Haven't missed a day:strong:
I also run four times a week for 40 minutes, ends up being about 4 miles each time. Added weight training too. I have an Aerobic rider that you sit on and pull back, that works my back and arms. I use 5 lb barbells to work my triceps and biceps
Do you think the loose skin will eventually tighten up???

I was just talking to my husband about the loose skin. He suggested that for a while I wear a support.. aka a girdle to help that skin heal and give it a chance to retract. http://www.deephousepage.com/smilies/nixweiss.gifHe thinks maybe a few months. I dont know if it ever snaps back but I think you would have more of a chance the younger you are. http://www.deephousepage.com/smilies/twocents.gif

You are welcome Ridgerunner :)

Katie, Indianfree, psst-itsme, My friends and I have also been lamenting the loose skin delema. I'll tell ya what, after seeing dimpledn's website and her FIRM results (BCB buddies how off), I'm sold, she looks absolutely fabulous! I started the FIRM body sculpt on friday, did it again on sunday. If she can look that terrific after loosing 114 lbs, count me in!!! I do think that to firm up as you go down you have to do a combo of strength training along with aerobics and stretching, just like they always tell us. Good luck ladies!

Oh my goodness, the carpenter story is so true to life... I have not got to the loose skin yet as I have not lost any weight to speak of proudly... But I do live in a body built by my own eating habits... UGH.. I would not do this to a family loved one...why to myself?? Inherited body size and structure do not warrant the size I am... some of them can be played down, via fashion styles.. but the weight,... hmmm.. I built myself!!!! Good point to be taken seriously..!!!

after I had my kids I started using lotion daily 2 times a day...when I lost the weight my skin did not sag. Using a good lotion does help the skin...just a thought that it might help. I still do this, and have slight sag in stomach area, but not much...

HI- The first 19 mos I spent in the water and water is toning, strength and aerobics all in one- and then I switched to heavy duty weights and cardio- and altho I have lost over 145 lbs and am older- the skin problem is not all that bad. Doing it slower is better.

Loose skin is a big problem with big losses. Some will snap back into place but if it is damaged by large stretch marks or if you have excessive skin, it will probably have to be removed by a Dr. Some will have better recovery than others, it just depends on the type of skin you have.

Hi I think Pilates might help out with tightening up loose belly skin. That is going to be one of my concerns as I lose more weight. I have done Winsor Pilates a few times, you can definitely feel it work!! Also, the excercise ball is a good piece of equipment to use, you can also feel the burn with that!!
