Milk allergies

A lady that goes to WW with me has developed an allergy to milk. She isnt lactose intolerant, her throat swells up when she drinks or eats anything with milk in it. I was talking to her tonight and she was wanting to know if there was any type of sour cream that she could get that wasnt made with milk. Any suggestions?

Also is there anyone else out there that has this type of allergy to milk? And if so, how do you handle it? Thanks buddies!!!

There's a sour cream substitute made with tofu. I think it's called "Better Than Sour Cream", and IIRC the manufacturer is the company that makes Tofutti.

Thanks Cordy! I will let her know. I feel so bad for her cause there are so many things that she cant have due to her allergies. I dont know what I would do.

My neice is allergic to cow's milk and also to soy. She drinks goat's milk, but it is higher in fat and probably not WW friendly. My sister said that cheese made from goat's milk is very good also.

My mom is allergic milk and soy. My mom drinks rice milk. The lady at your meeting might be able to have Soy milk. My mom also uses Smart Balance Margarine it does not contain milk or soy. Also my mom buys DariFree here is the infomation on that.Vance's Foods, Inc. has a product called "DariFree" that comes in
powder
form that is especially good in recipes that call for powder milk.

There is a delicious sour-cream substitute, made by Toby's I think...Check in food co-ops or health food stores.

There are many great soy products that can substitute. Lots! :)
