For some reason I only thought that you got strech marks when you gained alot of weight, I just read somewhere that you can get strech marks when losing weight.

What a bummer! I have new stretch marks and old ones and the thought of adding any more to my stretched marked up body is such a horrible thought.

Hi 50 for my 30th....just maybe use`in pure cocoa butter might help. They also " carry" an over the counter cream that may help in the pharmacy section.
In any event they will fade over time.
Take Care Buddy. Have an OP Grand Day!!

It's not from losing weight that you have them. The skin gets them when stretched, that's why they're called "stretch marks". They're actually scars from tiny tears in the skin fibers.

As a heavy person gets thinner, the skin that was stretched is now able to relax and the marks show. It's not caused by losing the weight, they were already there from gaining weight.

Here's an article about them that may help you accept it a little easier:

Stretch Marks (http://kidshealth.org/teen/your_body/skin_stuff/stretch_marks.html)

Lots more links here:
Google Search Results (http://www.google.com/search?q=what+are+stretch+marks%3F&hl=en&lr=)

Far better to be thinner and more healthy than worry about a few "battle scars" especially when you realize it's a normal thing and more people have them than not, including men. :)

A very long time ago when WW first became popular (Yes I remember those days...:D ) they use to tell you to "make sure you drink your skim milk to help with stretch marks".

Now, is this fact or falacy???? I don't know. But I do know that I've been as heavy as 230 and went down to 189 and I don't have a stretch mark. And I drink nothing but skim milk.

Unfortunately I'm back up to 218, but that's another story. :ugh:

Any thoughts????? Does anyone else ever remember hearing this???

Oh you are so lucky not to have stretch marks!

Oh - I googled stretch marks and came up with an article that said you can lose them by both gaining and losing weight - that's why I was curious.

I'm discovering stretch marks I didn't know I had! I thought I was very lucky to never get any on my boobs, even though I breast fed for a year. Well, turns out that they were just plumped up! The ones on my lower abdomen show much more now too--thank goodness I don't have too many! I can see now why plastic surgery is so popular!
