I am trying to lose 50 pounds in 25 weeks, for my 30th birthday - am I aiming too high? Someone told me so, and it kind of let me down.

I'm starting to work out at home on the treadmill and am following the program.

Are my hopes too high? How long does it take to lose? How much have you lost and how long did it take? I know that everyone is different, but I would like to get an idea.

WW recommends between 1/2 to 2 pounds per week.

I have followed the program for 9 months with no cheating, ever, and lose, on average, 1 lb per week.

If you follow the WW guidelines and exercise regularly, you should continue to lose between 1 and 2 lbs per week. WW recommends this goal because it is healthiest to lose at this rate. And the medical profession also recommends 1-2 lbs per week as ideal.
We didn't put the weight on in a month, but we would all like to lose it that fast. LOL :exercise:
Remember, as you lose, you are on the road to a new and healthier you. WW is a way of life, and we have to learn as we go.
Good luck to you. Let us know how you are doing.

Before you set your goals too high, think of this.

Right now you want to loose 50 pounds in 25 weeks. Let's say for agruements sake you don't make that goal. Instead you have only lost say 30 pounds. 30 pounds!!! That's alot and a big acomplishment! Imagine 6 bags of sugar!!! Pretty heavy right?

Everyone looses at a different rate and you may start off with a "bang" and then level out. Regardless of how you loose remember you are loosing and you should be very proud of that. I'm not saying you're NOT going to make it. But just incase........:)

Good luck and keep us posted as to how you are doing!!!

my experience says "yes", but as has already been mentioned, whatever you do lose in the next 25 weeks will be a great accomplishment! you can throw another big birthday party when you're 31 and all trim!!

Everyone is different, I have been doing this for 16 months and have lost 45 pounds I am older than you and am on meds that slow down my weight loss but I have to say I would try for smaller goals..this way you won't get discouraged..remember anything you lose will make you feel better..

I think you have to have the mindset to do this journey first and foremost.

Is it hard? Anything worth doing is hard at times. If it wasn't hard, we would not have the weight on in the first place.

You can't decide ahead of time that you will lose a certain amount of weight each week. I think that's just setting yourself up for failure. It's good to have a goal but don't expect to meet it for a certain event, i.e. birthday, etc. That's not saying, you won't, but we all have off days. We don't lose the same amount each week.

I lost 50 lbs. in 8 mos. Never had a gain or a maintain, but I certainly didn't lose a "consistent" 2 lbs. a week loss. Then, my mind went somewhere  and I struggled, struggled for almost a year. I'm back on track now and you will see my weight loss posted below in my signature line since Jan./2005.

YOU CAN LOSE THE WEIGHT.

As someone said, you didn't put it on a couple week/months, etc. and it won't come off instantly -don't we wish!

YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Follow the program/get in some exercise/drink some water - all keys to weight loss.

Howdy.

It will depend on how much weight you have to lose as well. For myself, I expect I will be able to lose 50 pounds in 6 months (26 weeks) because I have 100+ pounds to lose. Those last few pounds can take some patience to get off though.

The "rule of thumb" is you will lose a max of 1% of your body weight in fat per week. This means if you weigh 250 pounds, it is reasonable to lose 2.5 pounds per week. However if you weigh 200 pounds, don't plan on more than 2 pounds per week. If you weigh 180, 1.8 pounds per week is a good target, etc.

I calculate it out in my excel spreadsheet. If you want the formula, let me know. I use this number as my target for the week. I also reset the numbers at the beginning of each month to keep my head in the game. It is still the ideal and doesn't take into account plateaus or TOM  which can slow you down.

In the end I say be patient and stick with it. A lot can happen in 25 weeks. Even if you are 35-40 pounds lighter and exercised along the way, you might be looking and feeling like you wanted; especially since beautiful lean muscle weighs more than squishy fat. Don't get hung up on the number on the scale, go by how you feel. I was getting very happy with my body while I was still 20 pounds from my ultimate goal (before pregnancy). It had me rethinking what weight I wanted to declare as my goal.

Good luck to you. I hope to see you here and posting. :bcbsalute

I have been doing WW about 26 weeks and have lost 43.4 pounds, without always being 100% OP.

I think you can accomplish your goal if you work at it. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_28_109.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm835AJUS)

I've lost 39 pounds in 23 weeks........I have about 40-50 pounds left to be where I want.

I will say, though, that I haven't had a particular amount I wanted to lose by a certain date. While I think it can be motivating, it can also backfire, if your body doesn't cooperate.

I would just aim for following the program 24/7, and whatever happens, happens (for a specific amount of weight)

If you are OP over the next 6 months, you will be happy with the result on your birthday.

Good Luck

I agree with Linda...what if you lose only 30 pounds or 25 pounds...aren't you going to be happy that weight is gone? I say your success will be in the effort you put in. If you only lose 25 pounds in 6 months, that is still one BIG accomplishment!!

I totally agree - I'll be happy if I do lose about 20 or 30, even if not the 50. I'm aiming for the 50 though!.

Thanks for all the posts on this subject. I too was wondering how much to expect. I opted to join WW on-line because there are no meetings near me at times I am able to attend. I started 1/24 and weighed 212. Today (2/4), I'm at 201. That's WAY more than I expected to lose and was real psyched about having dropped that much so fast. But I now realize that it's not going to continue to come off that fast & I must keep positive even if I only lose 1lb a week from now on. I'm so glad to have found this forum & really enjoy all the tips, recipes, & support I find here.

Thanks again!
Dee

Just remember......a slow loss is better and healthier. Some loose quicker than others. But any loss is another step to being healthier and trimmer! http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/12/12_4_64.gif http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/12/12_4_49.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZSYYYYYYYYUS)

My first time around on WW I lost 70 lbs. in 6 months by following the program to the letter.....I was totally OP...always got my water, always exercised, always ate all my points.....it can be done if your metabolism is willing!

Thanks for that. OP all the time. That made my eyes widen - at least for me it's hard. But I have exercised everyday since Monday except Friday - I was tired.
