Hi Buddies!

Someone a while back posted a question about Wendy's chili being non core, and another buddy posted the "Top Secret" recipe. I just stuck it into MC. The recipe has been halved.

FWIW Mastercook defines "extra lean ground beef" as 83% lean, so the recipe should actually be fewer points & less fat. I spent late Sunday night searching online for 93% lean beef nutrition info so I could make it a custom ingredient in Mastercook & get more accurate nutrition info on my shepherd's pie.

You're absolutly right, Ameliaamy! :bcbsalute

Unfortunately, the only extra lean ground beef I can get at the stores that's pre ground is the 83%, so for my records I just leave it as it is. I remember reading somewhere though, that if you drain and rinse your ground beef after cooking it, it becomes equivilant to 98% fat free. :water1:

ok---so, the question is...is wendy's chilli core???? i love this recipe and i will make it for home cooking--but i always loved getting wendy's chilli and for me when i was doing the (gasp!) zone, it was a meal suggestion...

so, if you were going to wendy's you core ladies--which i hardly ever do, but my kids love to have a burger once in a while...

what would YOU get....????

and if you did have a small chilli--how would you count it as core?

is wendy's chilli core????Sorry, Oystergirl, I forgot to answer your question. Nope, Wendy's chili is most likely not core, since I doubt they use extra lean ground beef.

The Dining Out Companion says that it's 4 points for a small and 6 for a large. I got my hands on a copy of their nutritional info pamphlet (VERY IMPRESSIVE!!! I could actually use it!! :D), and using the points formula, it's 3.6 points for a small (4 points if you use 1 packet of crackers like I do), and 5.9 points for a large. I eat the stuff about 2 times a week- 4 points for a chili, and 0 points for the side salad and a diet cola and I'm happy. I'm there so much the manager knows me. But then again so tdoes the owner of my local Lick's Burgers. :) I think I make an impression.

The week I did Core, I just counted it as 4 points, and ate core for the rest of the day.

F.Y.I. the ground beef that I buy at Trader Joe's is 96% lean. Only 4% Fat. Wouldn't that be considered CORE?

This is a great recipe. I did make some changes - I added a lot more onions and more ground beef. Next time I make it I will add the whole can of chopped chilies too. The extra lean ground beef is so dry I actually chopped it up before I browned it. I took the knife and just cut the ground beef into small pieces. I have made chili before and the beef would always clump up.

Ive been making this recipe for quite some time and it is the BEST chili I have ever made! When I have to go to Wendys... I used to get a baked potato with broccoli and no cheese..they dont serve that anymore so I get a potato , plain and side salad.

Bumping up for update. My son's gf works at wendy's and the burgers they use in the chilli are diced up pre-cooked burgers that were not sold. The throw them in a well and freeze at the end of the day. So it is NOT LEAN! But darn their chilie is good so I'm going to give this reicpe a try!
