Hi,
Just wondering if anyone else on here is dealing with hypoglycemia?

Hi, Lori,
I'm hypoglycemic. It's kind of difficult to handle sometimes, especially when I make bad choices and my sugar drops, so I feel like I need to eat, and eat fast, leading me to more bad choices.
How do you deal with it? I try to stick to low-sugar/no-sugar foods, whole grains, stuff low on the glycemic index. It works when I stick with it.

One thing that I have found that triggers my hypoglycemia is not eating before I exercise. This only happens at night so I try to exercise after a snack before supper or about an hour after supper. It's inconvenient this way because I hate running on a full stomach. Oddly enough, morning exercise before I have eaten anything doesn't bother me, unless I am just famished.

I can't eat anything with sugar, brown sugar, honey, molasses etc. added to it or I have symptoms. I can eat most fruits (although grapes and fruit juice are definite no-no's for me), other carbs/starches such as bread, pasta and potatoes don't seem to bother me unless I eat quite abit or eat it by itself. I usually always try to have a protein with these things. I always keep light string cheese, laughing cow cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt and nuts around and will have these with fruit for a snack.
I have to eat before any type of exercise. I have to stick to a pretty strict schedule for meals and snacks also.

I was just diagnosed with hypoglycemia. My doctor wants to put me on a strict plan similar to Atkins. However, I would like to stick to WW. I really don't feel that I have it that bad. I do feel sluggish at times and sometimes my blood sugar drops really low and I have to eat quick, but it has never been to the point where I've passed out. What are some tips for living with this? I think that if I stick to WW, eat more proteins and less carbs, and eat more frequently, I should do ok. Any advice?

All of my high school years and into college, when I would stand up quick from everything from laying down to sitting on the pot, everthing would turn black (I couldnt see) and my head would start burning. Then in college it got so bad I would just be standing there and all of a sudden I would black out/ pass out. I could feel it coming on cause my head would start buring and everything would start to turn dark.
So I finally went to the Dr. and the said I had Reactive Hypoglycemia. This is when I was at one of my lower weights. The reactive part he said means you will never know when it is coming on and it is not detected through physical exams because of that. You ups and downs vary so much. When I would pass out I would eat a hersey's kiss. But what my Dr. said that was really important was to NOT drink coke, Dr. pepper, etc. with all the sugar and caffeine, and to eat right as you start to feel hungry, dont ignore you hunger.
Once I started to put more weight on over the next few years it finally went away. I dont know exactly why it went away, but the weight I put on seemed like it helped alot. (which putting on weight is not good for everyone, but for me it was good cause I was only about 115-18 and 5'7" but it wasnt because I didnt eat.. I ate like a horse)
Has anyone found they have developed this with losing/gaining weight?
