View Full Version : Your Favorite Food as a Child?

What was your favorite food as a child? Do you still like it and eat it?

My favorite food was sweet corn, picked right from our garden, plopped right into boiling water, and eaten immediately when cooked. Hot and very sweet! Yumm. I still eat sweet corn on the cob but it never tastes as good as the memory.

My favorite food --- it was a tie between ice cream and spaghetti with meat sauce. I still love both. :)

My Mom made the best apple pie and oatmeal cookies - loved them.

I don't eat them anymore and haven't for many years. Buying these things is just not the same as having Mom make them. They sure don't taste like her's.

This is awful and probably contributed to my weight problem but I remember having a cold and my mom would get me McDonald's chicken McnuggetS:confused: Not a very healthy choice for a sick child but even now when I am sick I crave them and usually spend the points on a six piece.

My fave food was Kraft Macroni and Cheese..still love it but don't eat it.. maybe once every few months at 9 pts a cup not worth it.. I make my own Mac and cheese that everyone loves.. it is much better than Krafts but again at 9 pts can't do it..

My favourite food was.. anything my mum didn't cook ehehehehe. She made these 'Curried Sausages" one time that were bright ORANGE :ugh: God Bless her!

Seriously, my favourite food as a kid was icecream and still is icecream! We only ever had it on 'special occasions' or if dad bought it, cos he is icecream mad too. Now I have WW's ice creams a treat every now and then.
But I imagine it's Homer Hudson or Baskin and Robbins ;)

Ooops! I hope I am not throwing anyone off program by asking this question and making you all think of those high calorie treats and other high fat foods you ate as a child. Paris and Jaci, I have been occasionally enjoying some wonderful new light ice creams that are 2 points. I just eat 1/2 a cup. If you can measure and just eat that amount they are wonderful!

Oh man, what a junk food junkie I was as a kid! I would NEVER allow my girls to eat the garbage I ate on a daily basis. Two faves that came to mind were Hostess Ding Dongs & the Zinger snack cakes. My favorite sandwich as a kid was velveeta on white w/ gobs of mayo & who could forget Tang? I used to love that stuff too.

My favorite food was baked chicken. My father used to work 3-11pm shift. My mom would put a chicken in the oven and bake it for when he came home. Sometimes she'd let me stay up and eat with him. It was cooled just perfectly and was such a special time. Funny how alot of our greatest memories are centered around food.

My favorite food was anything that had to do with ice cream!! I ice cream cake, pops, cups, etc. You get the idea. By the way, it still is my favorite food, but now I either eat low or non fat. I only eat real ice cream once in a blue moon.

Starch. I remember asking, once, what was the correct word to use, that all I cared about was whether we were having potatoes, noodles or rice as a side dish. And so instead of asking "What's for dinner?" I'd ask "What's the starch." (With butter. The whole point of it was to have something under the butter.)

I could have lived on bread, milk and brown sugar. I didn't like food as a small child. They had to trick and/or force me into eating.

I am glad you posted this question... it was very interesting to me. I had to keep coming back to it to answer it. Growing up, till puberty, I did not like food. In fact, my brother & I had a set of ways to get rid of our food so Mom would think we had eaten it. Incredible to me now, but there it is.

But I thought & thought. The foods that come to mind are cocoa & apricot fruit leather (we always got a roll in our stockings on Christmas). I haven't had either of those foods in a long time -- why not? Surely I ought to make room in my food plan for the joyous parts of life? So, tonight I am having a cup of cocoa. :) I couldn't find fruit leather today but I bought a can of dried apricots. Yum.

Thank you for an interesting question. :bcbsalute

When I was sick as a child my mom made me Campbells Bean and Bacon soup with crackers and grape juice to drink. To this day if I am sick I want Bean and Bacon soup!

I had many favorites as a child - but the first one that comes to mind:

I had a best friend who I would see every weekend when I was 13-16. She would always make us Tuna Fish sandwiches on wonder bread,
Cheetos, and Hi-C grape or peach juice. Sounds so weird now. But we loved it - and we always got into arguments about what was better
Cheetos Puffs or Cheetos Crunchy. (I like the Puffs).

I had many, many, many favorite foods when I was a kid. That's what got me into the mess I'm in!!!

any kind of cookies
chocolate fudge
potato chip sandwiches
dumplings on sauerkraut (Mom's cause mine aren't very good)
peanut butter
regular milk
home-made ice cream

Well there isn't enough room to type them all and my fingers would get tired too!! Oh yeah, I liked them all in bulk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:odear:

mmmm.... good question! My Mom makes the BEST chocolate chip cookies, so those were definitely tops on the list. I've always been a big fan of mashed potatoes too (no gravy though).

I had lots of favorites too. A few were:

chocolate
potato chips
saurkraut
mom's oatmeal chocolate chip cookies
most things sour (I had, and still have a "sour tooth" as well as a sweet tooth)

When I was growing up, I didn't eat much, it was a real problem. For a while the only thing I would eat was "Franco American Mini Ravioli". Also I really liked:

Tapioca
Neopolitan ice cream
"Macaroni"

Fresh, white, soft, Bunny Bread. I would make a sandwich out of almost anything. I think my favorites were bologna sandwiches, and ketchup sandwiches. Yep, that's not a type-0, ketchup sandwiches! I also would eat butter, just plain butter. My mom told me she used to find little teeth marks in the stick of butter, so she had to put it up on the top shelf in the fridge so I couldn't reach it. I still eat bologna sandwiches, but it's now turkey bologna on lite wheat bread.

I think my favorites were bologna sandwiches, and ketchup sandwiches. Yep, that's not a type-0, ketchup sandwiches! My younger brother ate ketchup sandwiches daily when he was little. My mom joked it was the only way she could get him to eat a vegetable. My funny one was miracle whip sandwiches: one piece of white bread and a glop of miracle whip, then I'd fold it in half. Oh to be 4 again!

Captain Crunch cereal and milk but the cereal had to sit a bit in the milk to get soggy/crunchy.

When I was sick, I always wanted Lipton Chicken Noodle soup (the kind in the box) with real butter and lots of crackers. And I loved apple cider time. All the neighbors would get together and spend a couple weeks pressing the cider and we would let the mash sit in the hot sun and give it to the chickens and the sows and the baby pigs and watch the drunken animals. We were easily amused. Course it would probably be considered cruelty to animals now. ;)

This thread is making me very hungry. :) I'd have to say that my most favorite foods growing up were McDonald's cheeseburgers and hashbrowns, my mom's mashed potatoes and apple pie. At my heaviest as a child, I would eat- get ready for this- or 5 hashbrowns at one sitting at McD's. My mom used to tell me not to, but I would eat 'em anyway. I still crave them from time to time, but the only thing I allow myself to eat from McD's now is salad and the occasional cheeseburger. Hey- it's just 6 pts! :D

Mmmm. What a tasty question.

I would say, Granny's potatoes and noodles, & green tomato mincemeat pie.
Mom's chicken and dumplings & dutch apple pie

Raspberry Zingers were always good too and a treat.

My all time favorite food - gravy bread. MMMMMM. Some fresh, homemade chicken or turkey gravy soaked up with bread.

I didn't eat these until college, but I love mustard sandwiches. Bread and mustard, nothing else. It grosses people out.

Chocolate milk (Nestle's Quick only, please) and toast with butter and sugar.

I believe I shall want this for breakfast every day for the rest of my life. On stressful days I want it 4 or 6 times! It was a very sad day (earlier this year) when I had to acknowledge that I cannot have Nestle's Quick in my house and still be a healthy weight. I sometimes have cocoa made with splenda and light bread toast and a LITTLE bit of butter, but it just isn't the same. I have recovering alcoholics in my family who say they are happy to be sober but they still "want" the alcohol. Since there is a correlation between sugar addiction and alcoholism, I think I truly do know exactly how they feel!

But I eat Core now and I feel much better and more energetic, and the weight is coming off (slow but sure). It is weird how you still want the stuff that makes you feel worse, ain't it????

I'm loving all the answers to this one!

My faves were pretty simple:

Hot cornmeal mush with lots of whipped cream (great on a winter day for breakfast or lunch)
Spaghetti (and after reading the responses...I loved Spagettios with franks, now I hardly eat hot dogs and definitely don't eat spagettios)
Hamburgers
Pizza
Carvel ice cream with rainbow sprinkles (lived in NYC)
Homemade Egg Nog (my mom's was awesome)
And last but not least my dear abuela's (grandma's) churros

My three favorites were grilled cheese sandwich (just bread and cheese, nothing else on it) my Ninny's fried chicken and her chicken and dumplings. I use her recipes but it just isn't the same. (I miss her so much!)

I still love all three, but I have them very, very rarely since joining WW.

Oooooooo.....My favorite foods.....Fried Chicken, Lasagna and PIZZA. Oh God I can go on about this topic for days but I will stop. I will say that now I try to still have the things I used to love as a child cause now as an adult I still love them but I will have them in a healthier style. Insted of Fried chicken I will have it baked or broiled, I will still have lasagna but just a smaller portion and I haven't had pizza in over a month but I may have me a slice tonight if my weigh in goes well:D

What a fun thread!

I had such amazingly bad eating habits as a kid - No fruits and veggies. I pretty much ate only bread and cereal. My mother said I ate "white" food. I wonder at how I stayed very skinny until the age of 9, when I started putting on some weight.

I loved peanut butter sandwiches on white bread (Jiff peanut butter and Butternut bread)

Captain Crunch (with berries and the peanut butter kind), Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Alphabits, Honeycombs ..... cereals

Peanut butter and toast

Peanut butter cookies (homemade, with criss crosses on top from fork)

McDonald's plain cheeseburgers and fries (I realized after watching Super Size Me! that I, like many people, became addicted to the stuff. I thought about it all the time when I was younger).

Oh, this post is so much fun to read. A couple of you had some favorites that you said seemed weird...mustard sandwiches and Miracle Whip sandwiches. Well, just know that I was right along with you on those two. I LOVED Miracle Whip sandwiches the most! Soft white bread and a HUGE glob of Miracle Whip. Mmmmm, Mmmmm Good! I think I might have another very odd concoction that my family has been eating for years and years (probably 3 generations worth at least)...mashed potatoes, chicken and noodles (homemade noodles of course) and pickled beets. Take the taters and put a big glob on the plate or bowl, layer a generous helping of chicken and noodles over that and then take some of the beets and put on top of the noodles (oh, and take some of the pickled beets juice and pour over the whole thing). I know, that is a real odd one, but oh sooooo good!

I can't decide on just one favorite food, so I'll split it into favorite main snack, entree, and dessert:
snack - Lays Original potato chips with cottage cheese; my Mom used to do this, so I never thought it was weird until my college friends saw me do it and stared
entree - my Mom's ham and scalloped potatoes...mmm, so cheesy and starchy and hammy!
dessert - cookies 'n cream ice cream, hands down

I love Grilled Cheese Sandwich's and Tomato Soup...And Chocolate Oatmeal. I still have them on a regular basis today. Of course I use IronKids Bread & Reduced Fat Cheese and the chocolate oatmeal....the only thing I changed was Splenda instead of the sugar:) It's great fiber/low points and I always used cocoa powder...just like mom did.

I also love pumpkin pie....made with 1/2 sugar 1/2 splenda and FF Evap Milk...LEGAL treat! we have it regular and for breakfast too. Funny how we pass things on to our kids too...one daughter loves pumpkin and hates oatmeal...the other hates pumpkin and loves the chocolate oatmeal...but we all love the grilled cheese and soup...:)

All food. And too much of it. And, in some ways, I am still that child trying to deal with my food addiction.

I decided NOT to read the posts in this thread because I feel they glorify unhealthy foods and for some may be considered as "food porn." Of course, on WW we can eat anything we like, but for some dealing with food addictions, triggers can be things like reading this thread.

Oh, wow, what a trip down memory lane I have had with this one.

My Mom was a wonderful cook, (as I'm sure most of us feel about our Moms). About anytime we went to any family dinner, there were a few things that was requested that she bring.

Her baked beans, fried chicken (that is the only fried chicken I ever liked), her wonderful cakes, pies, cookies and candies.

And then, there was her wonderful meatloaf!

My Mom had two pick-up truck loads of cookbooks when she died...no wonder I love food! LOL

Peanut butter sandwich. I ate one everyday for lunch till I graduated high school. Had to have oreo cookies after supper every night. Talk about red light food, I haven't had an oreo in more than a year.

Didn't you know?? Miracle Whip was ALWAYS better on a day old hamburger or hot dog bun ;) My other favorites were bologna sandwiches (with Miracle Whip, of course), my Mom's enchilada's, sweet rice with cinnamon and my Grandma's pickled beets! And wouldn't want to leave out Little Debbie Star Crunch's!

Wow, what an interesting question. I think I ate Habitant pea soup (NOT with ham!) everyday for lunch for years in grade school. To this day, if I've had a rotten day or am feeling under par, there's nothing I want more than a bowl of pea soup. I know lots of people don't like pea soup AT ALL, and I just can't understand it! lol.

I liked the typical comfort food: Mom's creamy homemade macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes with lots of butter, spaghetti and meatballs, and... chipped beef on toast (go figure)! Unfortunately, I still LOVE these foods, but I've been learning how to lighten them up. So far, nobody has noticed. I don't make them much anymore - nobody has noticed that either.:)
