DH and I are looking into buy a sectional for our new house.

We bought living room set 5 years ago before we got married and although it still good, it does not fit size wise in the family room in our new home. We plan to move it upstairs in the living room and then buy the sectional for the family room where every one in the family hangs out.

Our old furniture has held up fairly well, but it does have several stains and is somewhat wore out, so I was thinking of maybe buying a leather sectional or something more durable that will last us a LONG time. Price range is 2-3000, since they are having a special right now for same as cash until 2007.

I just wanted to get some opinions if I could, I have made so many mistakes in the past with big purchases.

I'm not set on leather. Basically what I want is a sectional that is going to hold up for a family with three children (all BOYS) and something that can be cleaned easily.

I'd appreciate any experience or opinions you might have!

Thanks in advance!

I've never bought leather, so I can't speak to that. However, I have had several friends tell me to put the cheap stuff in the family room until the kids move out of the house. It doesn't seem to matter how much you pay for it, it won't hold up!!!

Hi,Jen.If I had all the money back, from the mistakes I've made on big purchaces, would be a rich woman!I haven't bought leather,so no advice on that.Maybe you could slip cover the older furniture & use it where it gets the most use. The slipcovers can be washed.Places like Overstock ...Walmarts,Target sells them. Then have the new furniture in the room where it doesn't get as much use. With 3 boys, you may never see any furniture last for long. :D

I finally wised up and bought my livingroom furniture by Flexsteel on the recommendation of a friend. I found a furniture store that carried this brand and went to take a look...they had sectionals, reclining sofas, you name it. And the best part about it is that it's guaranteed! The stuffing is guaranteed not to mat down, the springs are guaranteed (both of these are a LIFETIME guarantee), and the fabric is guaranteed......I spent around $2000 for a dual-reclining sofa and matching recliner and have had it for almost 5 years now....WITH 3 kids in the house! This is very durable, long-lasting furniture.......my pick for furniture in households with children. (btw - I've talked 2 other people into buying this furniture and they have been equally as thrilled)
