Where do you find that nifty little not smoked stats thing? Do you just calculate yourself it based on the cost and how much you smoked?

Gosh, I have been quit almost 9 months. I can't beleive how much better my life is for it.

Hi Kim!

Oh, how I remember that first day. You already know that this journey will not be easy. Now, have a plan of action. Get plenty of sugar free hard candy, sugar free gum and a cut off straw. I used the straw a lot. I would even inhale from it whenever the cravings were super bad. Sometimes I just chewed it. It has something with this hand to mouth thing. Of course, drink plenty of water and increase your exercise. I never, and I mean never, exercised before I quit smoking. Once I quit, I started walking. I would walk around my house at first when I had a craving (especially after I ate my meals). The weather turned cold, so my sister gave me an old treadmill. I walked on it a lot. I now love walking and walk outside whenever weather permits and also walk the treadmill.

You may gain a few pounds at first, but if you stay within your points, they will come off. Oh, I also treated myself to a tootsie roll pop when I walked outside. (1 point) The little ones that you can find around Halloween are 3 for 1 point.

If you need to vent or need any help, be sure and post here. I normally check twice a day.

Hugs for quiting,
Clara

Good luck Kim!
It is hard, but you can do it. I remember the first few days, they were tough, but the hardest part is not giving in to the random cravings.

The other day I was stressed out at work, and I was going to go out to lunch with two co workers, who both smoke. I offered to drive, and they said "Well we must smoke on the way to and back, why don't you ride with us?" I said no, and didn't even go to lunch with them because I knew that the way I was feeling, if I was around someone smoking, I would give in. (It has been something like 10 1/2 mos. for me) AND they ended up going to a fast food place for lunch.

So-if you need to, explain to people and remove yourself from the situation. Its just like an alcoholic going to a bar.

Good luck!

Thanks ladies for all the good advice...It's funny Clara, but when I got home after work, I really wanted one,so-o-o, I started walking around the house... about 8 times...then I came in and started supper, It really helped.. smile.gif
I've also started a new crochet project...to help keep my hands busy... I really want to quit this time...the hardest time for me is at work, during breaks and lunch, that is why I posted this morning...Instead of being outside smoking I was inside, online...Thanks again, KimR graemlins/wave.gif

Hey buddies!
I'm at 15 days now! I have gone w/out the patch for three days now. I am contemplating wearing it during the weekend though. I am saving pts to have a few beers tommorrow evening, and I have the strongest cravings for a smoke when I drink.

Have any of you tryed chewing the gum when having a cocktail?

Ok Kim...hang in there. It will be really tough for awhile, but you can do it. It really is a mind game. I smoked for 41 years. I smoked when I was happy, sad, tired, talking on the phone, out having a few drinks etc. In other words, I smoked for any reason. When I decided to quit this time, I guess I was ready. Was I tempted? Heck yes. Every once in awhile I still am. The thing is, if you want it bad enough, you will make it.

I'm not sure if I would wear the patch after not having it on for three days. The worst withdrawal is over. Instead, chew on a straw. I know, as I did this also. Just don't be tempted to have that cig. Not one puff... not one puff and you will make it one day at a time. One hour if need be.

Good luck ladies
Clara

It will get easier!!! Just watch out and be prepared, those cravings can come out of nowhere! I equate quitting smoking and not giving in to those cartoons where the devil is on one shoulder, and the angel is on the other shoulder, and the devil is trying to tempt you...and the angel is trying to convince you not to give in. Its up to you which one you listen to! The cigarette doesn't jump in your mouth, and if it does, it doesn't light itself!

I have been having really strong cravings lately, but I think its because I want to go outside and get a break when I am work...because it is getting sunny out now. But, I don't give in.

I keep waiting for the "It will get easier " part, but I will get there...My husband hasn't smoked in 22 years...He is my best friend and keeps cheering me on...(I am going to buy him a skirt and pom poms if he keeps it up) :D But I am trying to stay focused...Thanks for all the encouragement.... smile.gif KimR
