Up to now, I've been buying fresh vegetables and steaming them in our electric steamer. But for various reasons, I'd also like to use some frozen vegetables occasionally... The problem is, whenever I've cooked frozen veggies in the past, they have had very little taste and have been pretty watery. I know I've had frozen vegetables that taste very good at other people's house, so I know it's possible... any tips? Sometimes the frozen would be more convenient than fixing the fresh.

thanks!

Hi Nan !

I cook all my frozen veggies in Swansons 100%
Fat Free Chicken Broth ! I put a little garlic
sliced up or diced into the broth. Get it simmering slowly for about 10 minutes then put the
Frozen veggies in. It tastes delicious. Its easy too. I use the Fat Free chicken broth in lots of my cooking. Hope this helps !! graemlins/wave.gif

For me, it depends on the veggie. I have no problem with broccoli and cauliflower. I just plop them in a bowl and microwave them, but for green beans, I have to saute with garlic or something.
I posted a recipe in the side dishes forum for frozen brussel sprouts with a dijon mustard sauce. Here's the link: http://www.healthdiscovery.net/cgi-bin/ubb-cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=25&t=000465
I never even liked them till I got this recipe from Prevention Magazine.

I buy the frozen veggie blends for stir fry or the California blends for really fast meal prep. I just plop a whole bag of the veggies in the frying pan, add some Lite soy sauce, some minced bottled garlic, maybe some beans or Tofu, some powdered ginger, put on a lid, and let the whole thing cook on medium--no oil! The water from the veggies blends with the soy and makes a sauce. I LOVE this, and vary it depending on what I want to put with it. But basically, the veggies steam in the pan with only the water from where they were frozen, and then pick up the flavors from whatever else is in with them.
