Are you a perfectionist? Do you see this as a positive (perfectionism inspiring you to greater heights) or a negative? Feel free to elaborate!

I am or was a perfectionist, and not in a good sense... all or nothing and woe be to me if I felt I failed. Which is why when I do struggle I am reluctant to admit it and reach for the help I need. I'm working on it. smile.gif

Being a perfectionist can be good or bad... I am an all or nothing person. Either I care about my health or I don't..

When I didn't I was morbidly obese and 120 lbs overweight, now that I do, I've been at lifetime for 3 years...

LOL - I'm far from being a perfectionist. I do like being right all the time, but that's another issue smile.gif .

I used to be a perfectionist, but I have loosened up a lot over the last few years. I realized that I just couldn't keep it up anymore. People were expecting too much from me. However, I have maintained the "good" qualities of it. I take pride in what I do and I shoot for quality every time. But if I miss the mark, I no longer beat myself up about it. I just work to correct it wherever I can.

I am definitely a perfectionist to the point where it is bad...for example, if I "blow" my diet by a few points, I already see the day as "ruined", which leads to depression and feeling like a failure...I also am never happy with myself unless I am at a comfortable weight...hopefully this time around I'll get there and stay there!!

I am the antithesis of perfection-ista-ism. I'm way too laid back to care overmuch. Which is good, because I don't stress out, and bad, because I often don't put in the effort that I should. Oh well...nobody's perfect ;)

I am a perfectionist. Just like some of you, if my day isn't perfect I've failed. Which is one reason I like WW so much--with so much flexibility it's hard to mess up!

I'm always too hard on myself in everything I do. I've been told that often enough too. Same with doing WW. - I'm struggling now and instead of just saying I can do this I stress about it because I feel I'm failing. Just need to get with it!

I'm not really a perfectionist, per se, but I do get discouraged when I do things "incorrectly" or in a way that is perceived to be wrong. I tend to blow things if something interrupts my momentum...this happens with lots of things, my writing, motivation at school, weight loss, my job, etc. I wouldn't liken it particularly to perfectionism, but rather that I take things too personally and that I sometimes will let excuses get in the way of me taking responsibility.

Which is funny because I think that is one way that most people would describe me...responsible!

I think perfectionism can be a convenient way of avoiding things. The attitude of "well, I won't do it perfectly so I won't do it at all". It's not good to be that way. NO ONE IS PERFECT! I think it's good to have some standards, but some people carry that way too far. And ironically, we worry about what others think of us, when the reality is that usually they are too busy thinking about their own lives to notice what mistakes we have or haven't made in our lives. LOL! Sheila

It's a negative with me. At work, I expect perfection from myself & unfortunately from my co-workers. Their inperfections make my job a lot harder. I know we all make mistakes, but they make more than the average.
