Do you have an "Inner Brat"? What are some of his or her favorite tricks and how do you counteract them?

For those who might wonder "What in the heck is she talking about?" An inner brat is that niggling little voice inside your head that trys to lead you off the bcb path.

I negotiate. If I want something, I do what you would with a child...

"If you want a cup of ice cream after dinner, you can only have it if you go workout today."

"If you want to have that snack that will move into your Flex points that you are saving for that party this Friday, then you need to wait 15 minutes, have a big glass of water and then decide if you still want it."

"You can only have those Hershey Kisses if you go take a walk around the block."

Other times I just have to beat her with a stick. I wouldn't advocate that for actual children, of course, but my inner brat needs that whopping sometimes! graemlins/bcbkick.gif

It's true. You can't always have what you want. And I have to tell my inner brat that, which leads her to pouting, which leads me to a slight mood swing, but in the end, it's worth it! graemlins/bcbsalute.gif

My oh my do I have an inner brat. And she can throw the BIGGEST temper tantrums when she doesn't get what she wants.

Crystal - I aboslutely love the suggestion of whopping her with a stick. Sometimes the inner brat screams that outrageously!

One of my effective ways of dealing with her is to pull out my list of reasons that I wrote for wanting to lose weight. (I keep it in my food journal). I read all of the reasons and then ask myself if I REALLY want that. If the answer is still yes, then I make my self drink a big (16oz or more) glass of water. Then I wait 15 minutes. Usually that works for me!

Children are very visual so I pull out some old "before" pictures. It usually scares her so she just goes out to play and gain some APs. ;)

If my Inner Brat decides she wants a donut, which she likes but I don't, I cut a deal with her - we power-walk to the donut shop, which is 15 minutes each way. By the time we get there, she's usually thirsty and happy with a coffee and a bottle of water. So am I. It's a win-win. graemlins/crazy.gif

My Inner Brat sometimes wants to eat what DB is eating. I tell her that she can have it tomorrow, by which time she's usually forgotten about it. Her attention span is short like that!
