U/S results suprising

I went on Xmas Eve to have an ultrasound done. It appears that I am only 5 weeks and 4 days not the 8 weeks I thought I was. When I talked to te APRN she said that she wants to repeat the u/s next week. She wants to monitor the baby's growth. Basically she said to me she wants to think positive and say that I did not get pregnant when I thought I did and that it was all due to me stopping the pill at the end of October. She also said that I probably got pregnant sometime in November. She did not say this but I know she meant that she wanted to see if the baby is growing or not. She wants to make the conclusion that due to me stopping the pill I became pregnant right after that. Man, I am scared. I am not sure when you can start ovulating after stopping the pill. Anyone know?

I don't really know much about u/s or even really about the pill. I think that of course you CAN get pregnant right after going off the pill - or even if you are still on it - or it can take months to get back regulated...

I think the u/s is probably accurate though - why do you think that there might be a discreptancy - where did you get the 8 weeks? just curious? It is good that they will be monitoring the baby - and if everything looks good and the heartbeat is strong and everything - I wouldn;t worry just yet...

I thought I was at least 8 weeks due to my LMP was October 27. I missed a pill in October and that would cause me to become pregnant. I did not take a test until the beginning of December. There was no fetal heartbeat because there is not once present until 6-8 weeks. They are going to repeat the u/s nextweek to see if the baby is growing. She also told me if I have no bad cramping or bleeding everything should be alright but there is always that chance that something could be wrong. My DH went and told everyone before the u/s, so I am scared that if something is wrong I will have to tell everyone. I am just worried.

I think that my body was prepared to skip a monthly period or so after stopping the pill but I got pregnant. This just makes is hard to determine when you actually got pregnant but the little bit of worry is still there. It will be there until I get he u/s next week.

BUT YOU KNOW STRANGER THINGS HAVE HAPPENED. I GOT PREGNANT WITH BABY #1 WHILE FAITHFULLY TAKING THE BIRTH CONTROL PILL FOR ALMOST 8 YEARS..

YOU MAYBE WERE NOT PREG WHEN YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE BUT AS AN AMAZING COINCIDENCE DID GET PREGNANT RIGHT AFTER YOU THOUGHT YOU REALLY WERE> HMMMM?

Almost the exact same thing happened to me. I had some spotting at what I thought was around 8w, according to LMP, but when I went in for the US, the baby measured at only 5w 4d. The dr. was not concerned because I too had just gone off the pill before becoming PG. We did repeat the US 3 weeks later to double check the growth. It was right on at that point and has been ever since.

That makes me feel a lot better. I was not sure if something could be wrong. I keep thinking about it but realize if there was something wrong my body would let me know. I have to repeat it next week just to make sure the baby is growing. I believe she might want another at 8 or 12 weeks too. Thanks for taking the time to let me know this has happened to someone else besides me.

Lisa, the same thing happened to me! I got pregnant with my 4th child WHILE TAKING the pill. talk about a shock!! My youngest was only 8 months old when I got pregnant but I did not realize I was pregnant for 2 more months after.

I gave birth 4 weeks ago to my 4th child and DH and I are just so amazed and happy we have her and what a surprise she was. It makes me appreciate her even more because we were trying to prevent pregnancy but we got her!!

Anyway, with my other 3 kids, they were all planned and with my first 2 we tried to conceive 2 months after the pill and I got pregnant right away. With my 3rd, I went off the pill and DH and I were not using birth control and I got pregnant before I even got a period. Same thing happened to me, we thougt i was 10 weeks along and the ultrasond showed 8. Early untra sounds are much more accurate for dating than your period esp if you are irregular or just got off the pill.

Sounds like your Dr. is being cautious but most likely everything is fine.

I want to thank everyone for making me feel better. I have another u/s sound scheduled for Friday so I will let everyone know what happens. I thought things this rare could only happen to me. The APRN believes that I got pregnant before I got my period also. This is why my dates would be off. Doctors always want to be careful. If anything was to happen they are liable.

Despite a little anxiousness, I am feeling great. I feel 90% better than when I was pregnant with DD.
