I'm a total lurker on this board as my husband and I are planning to start trying around Feb 04. I have a question that I hope you guys can shed some light on. I have been on birth control pills for the past 7 years and to prep my body for ttc, I went off the pill last month. Before going on the pill, my cycle was 30-35 days and I am currently at 40 days with nothing happening yet (no period). I did a HPT just to check, but it was BFN. From things I have read, your body can take time to regulate your cycle back to normal(anywhere up to a year!), but I would still like to hear from you guys as whether you had any experience with this. Should I wait it out or go see my doctor?

TIA

Loris,

I have been off BCPs a full year now, having been on them nearly 7 years too. I had a perfect 28 day cycle before. I had a few wacky short cycles in the following months, but in the past few they are back to what they were before. Now I am just waiting to finally get a BFP on a HPT!!!!!

My doc said it is totally possible to get pregnant right away though.

I'd get off the pill ASAP, and if you don't want to get pregnant until Feb 04, then use alternate forms of protection. Just MHO as well!!

I went off BCP after 10 years and my cycles stayed pretty normal length. I don't think I ovulated the first couple of months though. I got pregnant 5 months after going off the pill which was faster than I expected. I have heard it can take 6 months to a years for your cycles to regulate and for you to start ovulating.

Hi

I went off the pill last August (2002) after 4 years and my first couple of cycles were close to 50 days in length. They have regulated some what though now to around 28-30.

personally, when i went off bc, i went right back to "normal," but i learned in my psych class it can take anywhere from 6 mos to a year. my teacher, a former l&d RN suggested no less than six months before ttc to go off. just mho!!! :D

Thanks for your feedback everyone. Its good to hear that others have had the same experience and that this is somewhat "normal."
