Hello all, I started WW while I was nursing and I know that you add 10 points to your daily point range if your are nursing full time, but how does the program change when your pregnant? I am not pregnant now, but hope to be next summer. Thanks for the help!

Hi Robin! WW does not have a pregnancy program. They used to but I think they were worried about being sued so they got rid of it. They will not allow you to attend meetings once you tell them you are pregnant. That said, many of us still follow points while pregnant. I'm assuming you would stop nursing when you got pregnant? I'm not sure how you would count points if you are still nursing. But if you're not, here's what I did:

In the first trimester I increased my points to my maintenance range. I was in the 24-29 losing range and for maintenance you add approx 4 points, so I moved to a 28-33 range. Then in the second trimester and onward, I added 6 points to that range to account for the extra 300 calories or so that they recommend you eat while pregnant in your second and third trimesters. This is not endorsed by WW, but it has worked for me. My midwife is happy with my gain (I think I've gained too much, but she says that I'm in the lower half of the range they recommend, so I guess its okay).

That's basically what I did also - and have gained 29 pounds in 30 weeks (with absolutely no morning sickness to make me lose early on). I was 135 prepreg and My maintenance points are around 26-27. I experimented and discovered that I need at least 30 points daily to maintain with my new metabolism! So I shoot for around 30-35 each day, BUT ANYTIME I am still hungry I am not afraid to eat. Especially when I am hungry for milk, cheese, or other healthy foods. I let my hunger determine my points (sometimes up to 50+) and I do not let myself really be confined to a specific points range! smile.gif

Good Luck with TTC! You should join the thread here - it is a great group of girls!

Hello, thank you for the information, yes I knew that WW did not endorse being pregnant and doing the points. I was following the Atkins plan before I found out that I was pregnant and soon as I started eating carbs and sugar again my weight sky rocketed. I gained 95 pounds with my son and my eating was out of control. I want to have some form of structure with the next one and I have had great success with WW. I have about 35 pounds to lose to be at my prepreg weight. We hope to start trying around March for number two and I really want to stay as close to OP as possible while preg. I am hoping that if I stay close to my point range and add healthy points like calcium, veggies, fruits, grains when I am hungry that I will be ok. Thanks and good luck to all!
