This recipe came with my crockpot and I just tried it tonight for dinner. The sauce came out great, and there is plenty for leftovers and to freeze. Yummy!
I figured out the points to the best of my ability, but was unsure about the canned tomatoes and tomato paste, so feel free to correct my points estimate. ;)
ITALIAN TOMATO AND MEAT SAUCE
Ingredients:
1.5 pounds lean ground chuck, browned and drained of fat (24 points)
1 cup chopped onion (0 points)
2 cloves garlic (0 points)
1 can (14.5 oz.) chopped italian tomatoes (0 points?)
2 cans (6 oz.) tomato paste (0 points?)
3 cans (14.5 oz.) stewed tomatoes, undrained (0 points?)
1 bay leaf (0 points)
2 stalks celery, chopped (0 points)
1 tsp. salt (0 points)
2 tsp. dried oregano (0 points)
2 tbsp. italian seasoning (0 points)
1/4 tsp. dried thyme leaves (0 points)
Put all ingredients in crockpot, except for 3 cans stewed tomatoes. Use blender or food processor to puree stewed tomatoes, then add to crockpot. Stir thoroughly. Cover and cook on low heat for 8-10 hours.
I figured the whole recipe at 24 points, and it makes about 6 cups. So depending on the points that use for the tomatoes, I think it's probably about 4-5 points per serving. (I like a lot of sauce on my pasta).
Feel free to correct my points here.
Enjoy!
