View Full Version : Has anybody ever adapted a bread machine recipe to bread made the old-fashioned way?

I saw a recipe called "Garden Vegetable Bread" that sounds so good. Trouble is, it is written for a bread machine. Has anyone ever taken a bread machine recipe and adapted it to make it by hand (the "old-fashioned" way). I make bread all the time, but am unsure about this.

Thanks,

Patty

;) Using bread machine recipes to make bread the "old fashioned" way is simple---follow the ingredient list and make the dough the way you usually make regular dough. The only change I can think of is that you may need a bit more flour as you are doing the kneading. Just go thru your own recipes and find something similar to decide on baking temp and time---. :D

I agree with JeanneJ. I don't make bread the old-fashioned way, but I adapt old-fashioned recipes for my bread maker all the time.

Differences:
1. You'll need to figure out the time and temperature for baking and kneading/rising by yourself.
2. The order of adding ingredients is different.
3. Bread machines often suggest a set amount of flour and a range for water, as opposed to the other way around.

Your experience and some reference recipes should give you good guidelines as to how to proceed.
