Yesterday my family and I went to the zoo - we walked for approximately 1.5 hours. It was at a slow, leisurely stroll, stopping to look at animals, etc.

Does this count for anything as far as AP go?

Low Intensity = 50-60% of your target HR
min exercised x your wgt in pounds x 0.000232 = AP

Mod Intensity = 60-75% of your target HR
min exercised x your wgt in pounds x 0.000327 = AP

High Intensity = 75 - 85% of your taget HR
min exercised x your wgt in pounds x 0.0008077= AP

Thanks for the calculations but I guess what I was wondering was - does this even count as AP? I mean, considering it wasn't like I went for an 1.5 hour walk. I was stopping, etc. So I wasnt sure if it even counted as a regular walk because I'm sure that it wasn't even low intensity. I guess I'd compare it to walking through a store. Do you all count that as AP? If you are going grocery shopping and spend an hour getting groceries, paying, etc. Do you give yourself AP for that?

Personally, I wouldn't/couldn't count it. I spend 2 hours in a grocery store - at a slow pace, stop & go, bending, reaching, but it's something I do every week so don't consider exercise by any means and don't count it as such. Of course this is, JMHO.

Yeah - that's what I was thinking. I normally spend a good 2 hours shopping - I LOVE to grocery shop by myself. So would the trip to the zoo count? I put on my running shoes for it but I honestly can't say I broke a sweat. However, I did suggest the family go there so we could get exercise as well.

I'm not going to count it - Sorry for babbling. LOL

Personally, I would not count it too...but if you want, maybe 1 AP?

Klerisa,

I was cleaning carpets with my steam cleaner the other day & figured, hey, this is something I don't normally do, I should get some AP's. But it certainly didn't raise my heart rate & I'm sure it didn't build any muscle, either. LOL!

And as much as I'd also want to count several hours of walking at the zoo, I wouldn't. A regular walk counted at low intensity would still be continuous & at a somewhat brisk & even pace.

I would count walking at the zoo as light intensity. If you're worried about all the stops, count 1 hour instead of 1.5 hours -- it's your judgement. You probably walked more than you realize. Ask your feet!
