For my birthday, my family is giivng me a subscription to Match.com (my idea, not theirs :D ) Have any of you had any experience with this site or any other similar sites? Inquiring minds want to know.
BTW, this decision came to me when I was thinking what I'd like for my b-day, and the only piece of consumer goods I wanted was an engagement ring! This is, I hope, the first step for next year's b-day prezzie!

I really like eHarmony.com. They describe themselves as the difference between finding a date for the weekend and finding a partner for life. I've been amazed at some of the great guys I've met there, including my BF. Good luck! Molly

I have two roommates and they each tried match.com. Over the summer, one went on about 5 dates - although nothing went on to be a long term deal. My other roommate got only one response and is now thisclose to being engaged to that guy!
It seems that the trick to it is in writing a good bio/profiles and being able to read between the lines of others profiles. Also, it seemed that the spending too much time emailing each other or talking on the phone before actually meeting was counterproductive. My roommate who did it found that things got a bit weird (sometimes sexual) or she grew to like someone and then there was no chemistry when they actually met. We concluded that going on a quick date (say drinks) early was the key to weeding people out.
Someone mentioned eharmony. I heard a Neil Clark Warren, Phd. on a christian radio station and bought his book "Date or Soul Mate?". If you are looking to get an engament ring, I would look into the book (and maybe that eharmony website). The book really helps you get to know yourself and what you are really looking for so you don't waste time falling in love or like with someone who might not be a good partner.
Good luck and let us know what happens.
p.s. it was also kind of fun to find people we knew on match.com. I had to resist the temptation to say "so, you are a Nebraska fan and only like blonde women who weigh less than 120 lbs" the next time I saw them smile.gif

I joined match.com about a week ago and get at least 3-5 e-mails a day! I haven't been on any dates yet - but will have my first tomorrow night. I'll let you know how it goes.

I was on an Australian personals site for a while. Only met one guy face to face and dated him for 4 months. It ended fairly badly, mainly because he was saying stuff that weren't true. I'm sure I just got unlucky and that there are genuine men out there wanting to meet nice women. I mean - I'm not a weirdo, and I had a profile on there! Just be careful, and meet in public places, etc.... (Yes, Mum!!)

Go to www.greatboyfriends.com. (http://www.greatboyfriends.com.)
I met mine there!
The guys don't post their profiles ex-girlfriends and friends post them and write their profile. You can even e-mail her and get the skinny.
I did match too. My friend met two men she dated for a while and I had a few dates but you really have to sort through the lunatics
