Hi There,

I am from Toronto,Ontario and wanted to now if there are any other people from Ontario who would like to be a WW buddy. Unfortunately glorious Canada does not have all of the low fat and fat free goodies that the US provides but I am sure we can bounce products/ideas/tips/motivation off each other.

What do you think? Any Takers? graemlins/wave.gif

Count me in. I am in Mississauga. I do agree that we have a lot less "fat-free" and "low-fat" products available here, however, I have been able to convince DH that we NEED to take a drive to Buffalo to do some grocery shopping. (If we spend the weekend, we can bring in lots more stuff!!!)

I've called the CCRA and if the product is not taxable in Canada, they can't tax you on it when you bring it over the border.

I've gone into the Wegman's and Tops Friendly market sites and they have a ton of products that I want to try.

Take care, smile.gif

Hey there!
I'm from Thunder-Bay Ontario. I used to live in Mississauga and Toronto though and am happy to see fellow Ontarians hanging around. I'd love any info you may want to share about Canadian low fat or point friendly products it would be great!

I'm North of Toronto. I've found a few substitues which work just as well and also some low fat stuff.

Ever tried the ff. packaged meat? It's very good for lunches.
How about Skinny Chips/Special K bars for snacks?
We have WW. bread here.
Veggie burgers are better than the bocca burgers I think. I've tried the Yves veggie burgers/chicken burgers/breakfast patties and ground meat. The ground meat comes in different flavours - regular/mexican/italian.
The Lean Cuisines are pretty good if you are rushed - mostly 6 pts. for one. However, I just have one usually on Monday night as they do contain a lot of sodium.
We have many, many kinds of different low fat/ff salad dressings here in our local Superfresh store.
Chapmans make sugar free ice cream, which I think is better than WW. ice cream. They also make the ice cream bars.
The only thing I really miss is not being able to find low fat bagels here.
Lots of great fruits and veggies - I just bought, last week, strawberries - imported but very good. They were $2.99 for over a quart.

Maybe we could start a "Daily Ontario Thread" here on the site.

Hey Ontarians!

Just a border-buddy crashing your party! I live outside of Niagara Falls NY (hence the Buffalo/Niagara Falls claim I have in my sig). I just wanted to offer advice to any of you coming over the border to shop. I shop at Wegmans primarily. There is the huge Tops International off of Niagara Falls Blvd that's good too, but I am partial to Wegamans because I worked at Tops as a teenager  Wegmans is on Military Road, about a minute away from the aforementioned Tops.

Anyway, if anyone wants any tips/suggestions on WW-friendly products, just let me know. Also, wegmans.com has pdf files of nutrition facts on a TON of there in-house products, so you can figure out on your own what the points are.

I feel so bad for you guys that are clse to the States yet don't have all the WW-friendly stuff a couple minutes (or hours, depending on the lines graemlins/ugh.gif ) over the border. Feel free to PM me!

Hi Jenn,

I am actually planning to take a drive over to Wegman's on Military Rd (even signed up and got their shopper card) - Can you tell I am excited.

Do you know if they carry the Miss Meringue cookies? Or the Skinny Cows? How about Stoneyfield fudge underground fat free yogurt - I could seriously spend all my daily points on this yogurt.

What other products would you recommend?

Take care graemlins/wave.gif

Hello my fellow Ontarians,

Thanks so much for the feedback so far. I managed to find the Laughing Cow cheese that I see posted so often on this message board. Has anyone tried it and what do you think? I have also managed to find the Boca Burgers at Dominion and was wondering what you thought about those as well.

Have a great OP week!

Hello fellow Ontarians:

Kim here from Oakville, Ontario

I am glad to have found this thread, as I have been looking for a thread to follow. (otherwise, I just get overwhelmed with all the info). I would love to have some buddies in this journey called quest for health, especially navigating those bumps in the road!!!!

One item that I did pick up in the states that I just love and wish we could get here is "I Can't Believe it's Not Butter" spray. I find it great on popcorn and veggies. The other thing is Velvetta light, it melts great and I like putting it in soup when I am feeling like something a bit rich.

Anyways, I will check in on this thread often, never can have to many Buddies, eh?

Hi Ganadaoweh!

I too scavenged the grocery aisles for Velveeta light. I bought this month's Woman's Day Light magazine and there is a Mac & Cheese recipe in their that looks amazing and I can't find the light velveeta cheese. It's very frustrating to think that we have to go so far just to get light or low fat food.

Welcome to the thread...I figured it would be great to have a few fellow Ontario buddies. graemlins/wave.gif

TerriD,

Wegmans definitely carries Skinny Cows (unless they happen to be out of stock which happens occassionally). My favorites are actually the Skinny Cow fudge bars. MMMMMMMM.

Don't know about the Miss Merainge (sp?) cookies at Wegs, but I know they DO have them at Target, on Niagara Falls Blvd. in the same plaza as that Tops I mentioned in my earlier post.

I think Wegs also has Stoneybrook (or Farms, I don't buy it) yogurt in the Health Food dairy cases (not the regular dairy case).

Other WW-friendly things I like: Wegmans lite English Muffins (only 1 point for the WHOLE thing), I can't believe it's not butter spray (can't live without the stuff) Pepperidge Farms 7-grain light bread (2 slices for ONE point), these Pita snack things (in the health food section, I think--I can't remember the name of it), Baked Lays and Baked Doritos (in the "regular" chip aisle (beware, they are ADDICTING), and Fruit 2 O (zero calorie flavored water, sweetened with Splenda, not NutriSweet--ick) in the bottled water aisle. That's all I can think of right now. I actually am not much of a fan of the "fat-free" stuff, I'd rather have a little bit of the real thing (like salad dressing) than a full portion of the lite or FF. JMHO. Hope this helps!! Maybe I'll bump into you shopping sometime!!!

Hello again buddies!

Enjoying the snow? IKES! Enough already!

I thought of a nice 1 point treat I can get here, but I am not sure where else. They are called Cravings - by Waist Watchers and they are sold here at Reids Dairy and a few other places. I have been told that you can find them at grocery stores, but I haven't been looking.

They are 1 cup cheesecakes. Cherry, blueberry, and chocolate to name a few. 1 point a piece, and $1.19 each. I like to keep a few in the freezer.

I would kill for the ICBINB spray here!

popcorngirl,

i would love to try the cravings, however, where can I find a reid's dairy? I live in Mississauga, however, my inlaws live near Peterborough so we are up there quite a bit - anything near there (If you know)

Thanks, smile.gif

Hi Jenn,

Thanks for the information. Because of the weather, our trip to Buffalo has to wait a bit. graemlins/sobbing.gif I am just so excited about this shopping trip.

I was actually able to find the "No Pudge" brownies here at Loblaws but I think that at $5.99 a box it's a tad pricey....

If you go to Wegman's and find something interesting, let me know.

Take care smile.gif

Hello fellow Ontarians!! smile.gif

I'm in St. Catharines..just a hop-skip-and a jump from the border....but I'm a displaced American! I grew up in Rochester, NY and lived in Buffalo before I married my DH almost 2 years ago...and I miss Wegmans SOOOO much!!

I used to cry at Zehr's because I missed my usual food...and this was before I was even a WW!!! Now, I know the stuff they have over the border...and I miss my beloved Weg's even more! graemlins/sobbing.gif (Weg's was my first job when I was 15 years old and I practically grew up in that store...hmmm, growing up in a grocery store...weight problem...is there a connection!!?!? lol!!! ;) )

DH and I took a trip over the border to get ICBINB spray and Weg's lite english muffins. He's a pop drinker, so we had to pick up cans of diet Dr. Pepper....when we make it back to Rochester, we'll be able to pick up some cases of diet Cherry Coke too!!

But, for the people who have been looking for the lite Velveeta, I remember I saw somewhere on another post that some members were substituting lite Cheez Whiz for it....I don't know how it works out for the points, but it's worth checking out.

The ValuePlus 100% wheat bread at No Frills & Zehrs works out to 2 slices for 1 point too....it's the cheapest bread there is, but it's good!!! :D

Ok, enough whining from me about home....this is a great thread though!! smile.gif

This crazy weather we are having is putting a serious dent in my shopping plans....

I was finally able to find the Cravings cheesecakes in Richmond Hill, took a drive out there at lunch and boy are they good. I bought a whole bunch of different flavours, but especially like the lemon.

I am going to order some of the miss meringue cookies online to see what they are like.

If anyone else has some ideas let us know.

Take care everyone. :D
