I just rejoined WW this past Saturday. 140 is my 10%. I've got another 5lbs after that to get to my goal. Who's with me? ;)

Hi Mary Beth,

I'm with you. Same goal. 140 is 10%, 135 is goal. Let's do it!

I am on break right now. But "winter camp" begins next week. Shall we set a goal date???

Today, Wednesday, January 7th my weight is 151. I am hoping to get to 145 by Valentine's Day....Let's hear from you....

Marilyn

Mary Beth and Marilyn,

I'm with you. I'm hoping to see 140 sometime soon, which puts me at WW Goal (my personal goal is less than that, maybe 125?).

I'm weighing in around 147 right now, so I'd like to be 144-145 around Valentine's Day as well.

Are we setting up a mini-challenge, maybe like a twin stats thing, or are we just checking in? Any of the above would be fine by me!

Hi Suzie,

I am very new (this is my first post in many months.) You decide if this is a mini-challenge or twin stats and just let me know. I usually weight in on Thursdays...but Valentine's Day is Friday. Looks like Mary Beth is a Saturday weigh in.

Here's a question....I wonder how the new program works when you only get 20 points to begin with????

Marilyn

suzie_lightning
01-07-2004, 02:31 AM
Marilyn,

About the program...at 151 you should have a target of 22. Don't eat 20 until you get under 150! Also, you have 35 Flex Points to use as you please every week--to spread out over the week, to use in a few days, to not use at all, etc. So actually, you have 22 per day plus an extra 35.

Also, even though I'm under 150, I've been eating 22 per day plus my 35 Flex Points. I eat every thing (all target points, all activity points, and all flex points) every week and I'm still losing. If you eat too little, you slow down your metabolism.

For our thread, why don't we set personal goals by February 12th-14th, depending on our weigh-days? We can check in weekly with our progress, and I'm willing to update it for all of us.

Looks like we've got a great group so far. Suzie, thank you for volunteering to chart our goals, losses, etc - that's a good idea to see exactly how we're doing. I weigh in on Saturdays and will let you know my progress then. I will set a mini goal for Valentine's Day once I see how I did my first week. Good luck to us all! ;)

I hope everyone had a good week. I lost 4 lbs my first week and am very happy with that smile.gif Based on this I'd like to be at 145 by Valentines Day (I's like to say 140 but that may be unrealistic.)Good luck to everyone in this challenge.

Hi Mary Beth and Suzie,
Wow, MaryBeth - 4 lbs!!
Looks like we're doing great....I think it may be the support we give each other. Weekends are hard for everyone, but "nothing tastes as good as being slim feels!" Keep up the good work.

Marilyn

Anyone know what I did to make my last entry bold??

Yes, we're doing great!

Marilyn, anytime you quote from another post, it comes out in bold.

Mary Beth--4 pounds, congratulations! What a great start to the new year! graemlins/bcbsalute.gif

I've put our goals and losses in another post, so I'll just add a new post every week.

I think I'm the first one to weigh in each week. I am really delighted....148 - a lb. since last Thursday.

Good luck Suzie tomorrow and thank you for the great chart...

Goodl luck Mary Beth on Saturday...I'll be anxious to know how you did on your second week!

Good Morning Mary Beth and Suzie,

Congratulations Suzie!! Only 3 more pounds til the Valentine countdown! Here at the computer I am smelling the almost 0 point zucchini soup cooking. It's still really frigid here so I will probably forego Curves - I did get there 5 times this week. Weekends are difficult for me, but the soup will help because in weather like this I like a hot lunch and this is easy. Okay, I'll share the recipe....

3 cups chicken broth
1 med red potato
1 med onion
1 clove garlic
3-5 small zucchini
2 carrots
2 Tbs. Italian seasoning

Cube vegetables and cook until soft. Cool off, put into blender and puree. Yumm. Makes about 2 quarts (liquid in the veggies!) When I was served this, I started to decliine saying, "I don't eat creamed soup..." I have even served this as a first course for Thanksgiving Dinner! Enjoy....my ww leader said other than the potato everything else is 0 points....so almost 0 points!

We're having guests for dinner so I'll plan some low point foods. Maybe instead of Prime Rib, I'll serve the Buttered Peppery Scallops...in the Seafood Thread. Has either of you tried Mockaritas....a delicious 0 or 2 point (depending on use of tequila) cocktail that I serve in a frosted glass. If I chose these two, I could actually pretend it's summer! I do know that I'll be using my flex points.

I think I'm rambling.... I will check back and see how you did Mary Beth! Again, good luck!

Stay warm, think spring...it's only 63 days away!

Marilyn - that sounds like a great recipe, can't wait to try it. I didn't do as well as I would have liked to at WW this week - I lost .2 lbs. But at least it was a loss and headed in the right direction. I got very lazy with my journaling - I'll have to make sure I do better this week. Hope everyone else has a good week.

Good morning buddies!

I'm spending this beautiful Saturday morning here at the office working on my dissertation, but at least I have a nice window to enjoy the sunshine!

Mary Beth--.2 pounds is still a loss! WTG, and write everything down this week!

Marilyn--That soups sounds delicious; I'll have to try some to help ward off the effects of the frigid Michigan weather. BTW, between your screen name and location, I'd deduce you're a prof. at Wellesley? My best friend was a student there a few years ago and loved it.

Have a great weekend!

Hey 140 Buddies,

I had WI this morning...inexplicably up 2 lbs. Was it salt? I don't know, but I'm not going to let it bother me too much. I'll just have another OP week, get some exercise, and see what the scale tells me next week.

Mary Beth, how did your WI go yesterday?

Marilyn, good luck with WI tomorrow!

Have a great day buddies!

Busy, busy, busy....and I did not lose an ounce! Still 148. I'm hoping like Suzie that it is just water. I had a stew this week and eggplant lasagna last night. Oh well....I'll just drink some more water.
Hopefully Mary Beth, you'll have lost some weight ! We still have 3 weeks to our countdown so with some lighter meals, some increased exercise, and lots of water, we can still do it!!
No, I am not at Wellesley, I am at Lasell, one of the other 35 colleges in the greater Boston area. Actually, we live within walking distance of Wellesley College - a truly beautiful campus and we take advantage of all the opportunities living in a college town provides...

Cheers to a better week for Suzie and me!!

Good Evening Suzie & Marilyn - I had a very good weigh in this morning - I lost 1 lb bringing me to 149.8. Good job, Mary Beth! You are in the under 150- and on the way to 140 and beyond.

Suzie, Good luck with this week!

I do think that this thread is helping me...just to know that from Massachusetts to New York to Michigan, we are depending on and accountable to each other. Yeah for us!

Mary Beth-- Congratulations! You must feel great to make it into another points range! Actually, I still eat at a 22 points target because I exercise a lot. Also, I want to see how low I can get without decreasing my food intake. Just something to think about.

Marilyn--I knew it was a high number of colleges/universities, but 35! Wellesley is a beautiful place; I'm a little envious. tongue.gif Don't worry about the scale this week; stay OP and get some good exercise in. That's more important, right?

Have a great week, buddies!

Both of you have a POP week.

Are you both staying warm? This surely has been a chilly one so far. We may get into the 30"s by Monday - a heat wave.

Down to 147!!!!! I did the right things. Exercised 5 days, drank water faithfully, and watched the food.

I have now 2 pounds and 2 weeks. I am determined to get to 145, even if it is after VDay. We're headed for Florida on February 11th and the summer clothes sure look better at 145 than at 150.

Suzie, sounds like you're really busy with that dissertation, but try not to neglect your own health goals. Keep plugging away. We're here for you.

Anxious to hear how you did, Mary Beth. I'll check the posting tomorrow. Have a good weekend, both of you!

I am determined to break out of my rut this week. I've started a one-week challenge on the T-20s thread, and have committed to having a full week of half-marathon training as well. I am going to get to 140, maybe slower than I wanted, but I will get there! graemlins/bcbsalute.gif

Can I join this thread? I think you need a West coaster in the group! I rejoined WW 1/3/04 and my initial goal is 140 also -started at 152, and now at 148.2 (PG is 130). Just had 3 weeks of losses and maintained this week (good ol' PMS week, so maintaining is a positive!) Unfortunately I've had a knee injury for a while now and am just getting back into the treadmill (very slowly). Wishing you all a great week! Greetings from San Francisco! smile.gif

It's slow but coming off (and that's what counts smile.gif This means I have 3.8 to get to my Valentines Day goal of 145. Thanks for the warm welcome! It's raining here today in San Fran but can't complain about the cold, since it's in the 50's here! I'm a Saturday weigher so my week's just begun. Goals for this week are to focus on 8 glasses of water/day and to start back on the treadmill and some light weights (doc just gave me the go ahead to start again! Woohoo!) I work in a sports medicine clinic so I have no excuses whatsoever!

Here are my stats Suzie. Thanks for posting them I(it keeps me accountable):

Hi there!

Seems I've been out of the loop. Welcome Cheryl! It is good to have a California Girl with us. Well, it's coming off. I lost another pound - 146! But I really had to work! I drank the water - more than 8 glasses a day. I really cut down on carbs....sticking to fresh fruits and vegetables....filled up on protein and made sure I got two servings of milk. I really did a vigorous workout on Monday and injured my knee....so I have taken the last two days off.
This is really working and I am inspired knowing that now we are supporting each other from sea to shining sea! Good luck Suzie, Mary Beth and Cheryl. I'll be checking the posts to discover your progress!
Enjoy the weekend....stay OP!

I'm checking in with a 1.5 pound loss, down to 147.5. I would very much love to be at 146 in the next few weeks so I can be 50 pounds down! 144 is not going to happen by next week, but maybe 146 will.

Hi All - Wow! It's Friday already! Looking forward to weighing in tomorrow. Hoping for at least a lb - but any loss will do!

Marilyn - sorry about your knee. I've been struggling with a knee problem since August (ugh!) and haven't been able to do the treadmill at all during that time. Yeah Suzie! Good loss this week. Anxious to know how Cheryl and Mary Beth are doing.
By the way....I sure do hope we'll continue this past V-Day....I know that this is really helping me. And you're probably going to find this hard to believe, but just 5 weeks from today I will be arriving in Rome for a 11 day tour of Italy and Greece. I am traveling with dh and high school and college students. It will be easier to haul a lighter body up the Acropolis! And again, I'll be needing to wear shorts, I hope!! So, if I can lose four more pounds from V-Day to March 12th....that will be awesome! Have a successful week 140ers...

Hi Marilyn, Mary Beth and Suzie !
Just weighed in this morning and down 1.8! Woohoo! I maintained last week so I am thrilled with this loss. Down 6 lbs now -- at 146.4. With a little luck (and a lot of water, planning, journaling, and exercise) I might just make it to 145 for Valentine's day next week!

Marilyn - so envious of your trip! I haven't been to Italy or Greece, but they're on my list! (need another chaperone for the kids?) smile.gif

Wishing you all a great week! We will get to 140! (Yes, Marilyn, let's keep on going after V-Day! This is great support --and enjoy everyone's posts!)

Hello Ladies - sounds like we all had a good week. I lost .8 lbs this week. I've decided that I should not make "Holiday Goals" for myself. While the weight is coming off it coming off a little too slowly. I'd rather see the weight keep coming off and not have "goals" then set goals that I don't meet and then get disappointed. We had talked about this at one of our WW meetings - that it's better not to necessarily set weight loss goals - you only tend to get upset when you don't meet them. Even if it's slow, the weight is coming off and that's what counts. Perhaps when the weather gets a little warmer I'll be able to get back to walking and that we help. Hope everyone has a great OP week. And Marilyn, sounds like a great vacation! Enjoy!!

litelatte
02-08-2004, 07:50 AM
Mary Beth -
I agree with problems with setting goals "by a certain date". I think it can be good motivation, but in the long run, my body's going to take the lbs off as it sees fit -- sometimes over a lb/week (woohoo!), sometimes maintaining (okay, I can live with that, it could be worse), and soemtimes gaining (ugh!) ... and sometimes no sensible reason for any of them! That's why I keep reminding myself that I'm in this for the long haul - for life! I average about 1 lb loss/week and I will get to goal when I get to goal.... but it's not going to end there. That's when the REALLY hard work starts!! Been there, done that, gained a bunch back... not going to do it again!

So although we set a goal for V-day, we might not make it by that date...(but it's for lack of trying - it's just our bodies adjusting to weight loss in all different ways) but we'll continue on and get there eventually!! That I am certain of!!

Have a great week everyone !!

Hello 140ing buddies!

I had a busy, work-filled weekend that left me little time for the gym, but I'll be getting back to it on Tuesday for sure.

Marilyn--I'm envious! Your upcoming trip sounds fabulous! And I, too, am excited to continue this past V-Day and get to my goal.

Cheryl--Congratulations on the great loss! You are smokin'!

Mary Beth--Way to go on the loss! I like making a combination of weight loss goals and behavioral goals. My goals might be to get in 6-7 veggie servings, increase my intensity at the gym, try 2 new recipes, etc. Those really keep me motivated and less focused on the scale.

It seems like everyone is doing well. Whatever our goals are, we have one week left in our V-Day challenge, so let's have a great OP week! graemlins/bcbsalute.gif

Hi all!
The week's going well so far (have dipped into Flex Points more than I would have liked at mid-week, but that's what they are there for!) I have no intention of NOT using them, as I see some people on BCB write. I use about 20/week (which averages 23 pts /day - which is the max on Winning Points - when I goal last time!) Maybe I might lose more weight faster -- but that's not really my goal. I do not want to eat only 20 pts / day and have my body get used to that -- then only get a couple extra points on maintenance (and then have my body get used to that --for life?) NO, thanks! If I earned more AP's then perhaps I could cut back on the flex points, but right now since I am just easing back into exercise slowly, I can't count any AP's (I don't count any for Pilates even though I do 3x week - it's not aerobic).

What do you all do ? Do you use your flexpoints too? I think it makes the program so unlike a "diet" -which it's not!

Hoping you are all having a good week! Happy Hump Day!

suzie_lightning
02-12-2004, 02:02 AM
Cheryl,

I don't want to slow my metabolism down, either. I want to eat as much as possible and lose, and I want to maintain on as many calories (points) as possible as well. :D

So...I eat all my APs, every week, usually earning between 3-5 per day. I eat all my FPs, every week. And, I haven't dropped to the points target of 20 yet. I will keep eating 22 until/if the scale really does not move anymore.

Call me crazy, but it's working! graemlins/crazy.gif

litelatte
02-12-2004, 03:18 AM
Suzie-
I agree completely! I don't want to be hungry, feel deprived, or feel like I am on a "diet"! And if I am losing by eating flexpoints, then why change? Yes, I might lose more if I didn't eat them (but many people say that is not the case)... but this is not a race for me. I will get to goal when I get to goal... and given my past history, I'll probably lose an average of 1 lb/week. Slow and steady wins the race (oops -- I said no race!) haha!

TGIF everyone!! Tomorrow is my weigh-in day and looking forward to a loss (I hope!) It's been another crazy week at work but managed to stay OP & get my 6 glasses of water in too! Exercise has still only been Pilates (2x so far) and it's been a real challenge trying to get me back on the treadmill. Knee is still not 100%.

Anyone have any big plans for the weekend ? I am getting a new sofa delivered tomorrow (have been waiting 3 mos for it!) Can't wait ! Also going to movies and dinner with a friend (it's a 3-day weekend for us - Pres day!) Have a great one everyone !

Woo-hoo, our thread's been super-active over the past couple of days. :D

I had a loss of 2 pounds this week--where did that come from? I haven't had a loss like this in months. graemlins/crazy.gif

Sriesub--Hi. graemlins/wave.gif Come join us, we'd love the company!

Mary Catherine--It's taken about a year. These are the lowest numbers I've seen on the scale, ever. It's not impossible at all--if I can do it, so can you! graemlins/bcbsalute.gif

Cheryl--You take care of your knee and enjoy the 3-day weekend and the sofa. I will be doing some relaxing, some working, and definitely some exercising!

Take care everyone, and have a great weekend.

Down .8 this week (of course I'd hoped for more to hit 145) but I did hit 145.6 (I was ready to start stripping to get down to 145, but thought I'd probably get thrown out of WW - plus we have 2 men weighers on Saturdays!)

Wishing everyone another great week!

Congrats, Cheryl and Mary Beth! I think our V-Day Challenge is over. Let's definitely keep this thread going. Do you all want me to continue updating our stats or are we okay just posting?

litelatte
02-16-2004, 05:31 AM
oh yes ! We must continue on! graemlins/bcbsalute.gif I think we can keep posting our stats at the bottom of our messages and that will save Suzie some work ! Thanks Suzie!

It's cold and rainy here today. I have to go into work for a while (even though it's a holiday) but I will try to get in/get out as soon as I can! Have some paperwork to finish up.

Used a bunch of flex points (14 to be exact!) on the weekend, so it's got to be a lower point week for the rest of it! And tons of water !

Wishing everyone a great OP week!

Hope you all are doing well. I had WI this morning, up a 1/2 pound, but no stress because I think my salt intake last night had something to do with it.

Good luck with WI, all. And come back and check in! graemlins/bcbsalute.gif

HI Im new to the 140's countdown! Im a wife and a mother of two children son is 14 daughter is 12. I have never had a weight problem in my life! Until Marriage and Children! eheh! I have cerebral palsy and for yrs after my children were born I allowed people to make excues for me! Not anymore! People would say well You cant exercise or You cant walk to get the weight off! Well Its my Poor choices that I made get me into having a weight problem! If I would come to being accountable to my actions I could do something! If I could move I could Lose! I started Weight Watchers Monday May the 19th 2003 I stepped onto the scale and IT READ 202! NOW the scale READS 147.5! So I can do something! Hopefully goal is only a few weeks away! GinaH

Welcome Gina and WOW! Congrats on your success to date!

I stayed the same this week - UGH! Soooooo frustrating! I am PMSing (again) - twice this month! Isn't perimenopause wonderful? ha ha! I'm sure there will a loss next week. It's a good feeling to eating healthy though -- even if the scale doesn't show progress each week !

Gina - welcome to our group - your stats sound fantastic! Hello to everyone else. I didn't have such a great week - I gained 1.4 lbs
I didn't journal very well and started to get over confident. While it's not huge gain I did not want to see the scale going in this direction. Oh well - I won't let this set me back. Hope everyone has a great week.

Good morning all !

Yikes - I used a LOT of flexpoints at a "Sex and the City" party last night. So it's going to be a tough week staying at 20 points /day for the rest of the week - but I can do it ! (Still having trouble earning AP's with my knee problem- but I can do Pilates and earning about 1 AP with that).

Have a great week all!

I'm back on line....a gain of 2 pounds...not so good, not so bad.

Seems we have several more on the road to 140! the more the merrier.

Mary Beth, congratulations! you're doing great! Suzie, it's really coming off. Cheryl, good for you!

Welcome to our new 140 buddies.

So the countdown continues....going to 140 and then who knows where. I hope that by my weigh in day, Friday, at least some of the gained 2 pounds will be gone. I know, water, journaling. exercise.... thinking. The weather was fine in Florida and I did relax and my knee is better. It really frustrated me that the days were so glorious and I was unable to really get out and do some vigorous walking. But I think I'll try Curves today and concentrate on the upper body and take it easy with those exercises which might hurt my healing knee. Wish me luck!

I really am visual, I guess, and appreciate the chart that Suzie was compiling....Suzie, are you willing?

I know that ever since I hit the under 150 mark I am having a hard time staying at my points, I'm not really sure why I mean it is only 2 points!!
I also haven't tried the new Flex points, for some reason I am scared that it doesn't work as good as the 1 2 3 way?
But with all your guys's help, I know that I can do this, I just have to come here more often and read all the great posts that you guys are posting.
I hope everyone had a great Monday smile.gif

Morning all ! So glad Monday's over! My Pilates appt got cancelled so I didn't even get that "destressing" last night (except lying on the couch). My knee is still a problem so it's limiting me to what I can do.

Mariyln - Welcome back ! I'd forgotten you were going to FLA (I PM'ed you). How did you hurt your knee? I'd give anything to lie on a beach for a week right now! How do you like Curves ? They just opened one right near my WW place and was thinking of trying it out.

Marybeth & Suzie- sounds like we all had a rough week (gained or stayed the same). This week we will go in the other direction!

Welcome to Gina, sriessub (name?) and Lana ! Where are you all from?

Sriessub - don't be afraid of flexpoints! They are there to be used (I always use at least 1/2 of them and have lost most weeks. I always stay the same or gain on PMS week though). Some people prefer winning points method though (and just use some flex every day - if you use 3 per day, then it's just like eating the top of your range in winning points).

Lana - wow ! You've lost quite a bit quickly! I tend to average about a lb a week. It gets so much tougher as you get closer to goal (I got there 2 years ago-- and will get BACK there this year too!) This time I'm STAYING there !

Gina - keep up the good work !

Have a great week everyone ! My challenges are water and exercise this week !

Hi all. graemlins/wave.gif I'm glad to see so many newcomers--welcome!

I have been having trouble staying OP since January, pretty much. I'll have a good week, then a bad week. I thought about this, journalled through it, and have decided that I need to make a 120% commitment to taking off these pounds.

Marilyn asked if I was willing to compile our statistics, which I am. Is everyone willing to provide those so I can make up a little progress chart for us?

Gina--What inspiring statistics, congratulations! Glad you're on the countdown.

Cheryl--Good attitude on the maintaining. You are eating healthy and maintaining your weight...that's pretty darn good!

Mary Beth & Marilyn--I'm with you on the gains. But let's get ourselves to 140! Come on buddies, we can do this!

Sandra--FlexPoints works much better for me than the older programs. If you are having trouble at 20 points, stay at 22 points for awhile. That's what I 've been doing, and I've been losing when I am OP.

Okay buddies, let's kick it into high gear. I'm ready; are you? graemlins/bcbsalute.gif

02-29-2004, 06:27 AM
Hey Suzie

Using the 22 points was a great idea this has put a lot less pressure on me because now I can still eat what I want. I don't have to pick and choose what to give up in my daily eating routine. I have pretty much gotten into a routine of how many points I have for breakfast and lunch then left myself 10-12 points for dinner.

Hi All !

Well I was up .4 yesterday (PMS time so I guess it could be worse, but I also didn't make all the best choices last week). This week it's OP 100% - no excuses.

Has anyone tried the Fast Track yet ? I'm not sure I want to be so restricted re: what to eat though. I've been keeping it handy in case I hit a long plateau - which always happens to me when I get closer to goal. Anyone tried it yet ? Were you successful ? I've seen some posts in which some have lost 3-4 lbs/week (which I never do). Of course it all depends on how much you have to lose I guess.

Have a great week everyone !

Good for you, Sandra! graemlins/bcbsalute.gif

Cheryl--Get back on track, buddy! graemlins/bcbsalute.gif I haven't tried the Fast Track, and I don't really intend to anytime in the near future, unless I've plateaued for a few weeks. It seems to much like a "diet" to me and not enough of a "way of eating" for me to do it without good reason. But that's just me! :D

Hi All ! It's been a tough week for me. Had to go to the dentist twice (cracked a tooth and had to get a crown put on - ugh! I hate the dentist!) The good news was that I couldn't eat much last night. Have a potluck shower at work today - going to bring something that I can eat (so I am not tempted by all the other goodies)! Been having trouble getting all my water in this week (since it hurt my tooth -even tried warm water which seemed a bit better though). Hope you are all having a good week.

I lost 1.5 pounds this week, putting me back at 146. I have promised myself that I will have another excellent OP week, full of fruits, veggies, and exercise!

Hey everyone! Have a question... Have you ever went to your WW weigh in and the scale be wrong?
For about a month or two the leader at WW meetings takes off weight from the scale. One week it will be 4. One week 3 2 or what ever. Im not sure where she gets her Number. What can I do? I was so mad when I went to weigh in Wednesday. I have digtal scales and weigh on them before I leave on the meeting scale they said I gainned .5 which I didnt. AS of now I am not going back to the meetings. Why should I pay to go the the meeting and the Scales be wrong that doesnt make you feel very good. GinaH

litelatte
03-05-2004, 03:06 AM
Yikes! I'd hate a scale that I couldnt't trust (not that I trust most of them!) haha! I'd talk to the manager of the Center - they need a scale that works (and is balanced!) Have others in your meeting complained? That just sounds too weird to me! Not sure I'd want to pay for that either!

Hi all- Just weighed in and lost 1.8 this week ( I'd gained last week and don't think I posted that -was too mad at myself!) But being focused on my goals this week really helped - water, journaling, etc... basically working the program. I ate all my flex points (which are there for a reason!) I don't get people that don't eat any of them -- how are they going to live on maintenance on such low points? That's just my opinion. ALso got back into Pilates this week (3x) - it really helps! I'm still battling my knee injury and it's about all I can do right now.

I was considering trying Fast track but talked myself out of it. It's too much like a "diet" to me (having things you cannot eat). Don't want to fall into that old trap ever again! I'll stick with WW as is and just accept that it's going to come off slowly. But as long as it's going in the right direction, that's all that matters!

Hope you all are having a good week!

03-14-2004, 04:02 AM
I had the best week I've had since my initial first week back in January. I lost 3 lbs this week! I think being sick in the beginning of the week helped play a part in the loss. I only get on the scale at WW so I never actually know how I'm going to do (although I usually have some idea.) I'm now 3.6lbs away from my 10% - then another 5lbs from WG. Hope everyone had a great week!

03-14-2004, 05:12 AM

Down .2 this week - Yeah, I wish it were more but at least it's a loss! Sometimes I feel like it's going to take me forever to get to 140 ... but I will get there eventually. It's funny that I'm posting after your saying .2 down is better than .2 gained because that's exactly what I did this week. After a 3lb loss last week I got a little too over confident. Oh well - hope everyone has a great OP week!

I'm just going to focus on the socialization and NOT the food and wine! It's a challenge fitting in my Pilates workouts this week - it's still the only thing I can without pain (still battling with elbow and knee problems). Suzie, sorry to hear about your back injury. I've too been battling 2 injuries (knee & elbow) for over a year now.) The only exercise I can do without pain is Pilates -- which isn't exactly aerobic, but I feel good doing something at least! Weight loss is much slower without exercise, but if you stay on program , you can still lose weight.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. It's gorgeous here in San Fran!

Sounds like everyone had a good week. I lost 1.6lbs today (after gaining 1.2 over the last two weeks). I'm so close to my 10% then another 5 lbs to goal. My leader asked me how I was doing last week. When I told him it was getting rough getting these last pound off he told me that was normal - the more you have to loose the easier it comes off - the closer you get to goal the harder it is. As long as I stay OP I know I'll be fine. Good luck to everyone.

Hi All ! Just got back from weigh-in. Down ONE WHOLE POUND this week to 144.4 ! (I rarely lose that much in one week!) So happy to finally break 145 ! It's been a long struggle - compounded by not being able to do much exercise (with elbow/knee injuries). I am going to try to get on the treadmill this weekend (very slowly!) and see if I can tolerate it with my knee. I've got to get moving to lose more than .2 each week. Work stress and lunches out have not helped - but I am keeping that in check (just hard to count points sometimes --even though I have the Dining Out Companion). No more excuses though - I'm motivated to keep on going , get down to 140, then start my new challenge to get down to 130 after that. I can do it ! tongue.gif

suzie_lightning
04-17-2004, 09:21 AM
Cheryl, congratulations on the big loss and breaking 145! graemlins/bcbsalute.gif

You have to do your best with the Dining Out companion and your knowledge of the way the food is prepared at the restaurant--that's why WW is a way of life, not a diet. You can always *ask* at the restaurant..."Oh, this looks good--is this cooked with oil or grilled?" :D

litelatte
04-18-2004, 06:09 AM
I agree Suzie! I also try to pick restaurants I know (or ones that I can look up ahead of time). I know I cannot stay away from eating out -- that's not what a LIFESTYLE change is all about. I'm learning.

Has anyone tried the e-tools options ? I just tried a free 2-week trial and the online tracker is so cool ! Plus you can look up points values of foods so easily. I might keep this after the free trial (I know that's what WW wants, but I am really liking it so far!) I got a card that gave me an access code at my meeting this week (ask if you didn't get one).

Before I left I was at 145.5, left for the 3 week business trip and came back weighing 149, not bad I thought as I ate out breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have been back now for 3 weeks and have gotten myself down to 145 yippee!!!! Only 5 pounds away from 140 then my next countdown to 130 begins. I am hoping that I won't have to do anymore travel as it really set me back with my weightloss and with my half marathon training schedule.
Good to hear everyone is doing good, I will keep posting more frequently.
Cheers to all graemlins/crazy.gif

Welcome Laura! You can certainly join in! We all need all the support we can get! The 140's have been a loooong journey, but eventually we get get there! I too am aiming for 130 as my next goal after 140.

Hi Sandra--Welcome back! Good to hear that you're down to 145! You go, buddy! graemlins/bcbsalute.gif

Laura-- graemlins/wave.gif and welcome! Congrats on beating the 150s!

I'm holding steady at 143 this week. It was a great OP week, full of exercise, but also full of stress. I've noticed that when I'm stressed the scale doesn't move. Let's see what the silly thing says next week! graemlins/bcbsalute.gif

Hi there. I was reading all your posts and am really impressed with your dedication! I joined weight watchers this week after nearly 4 months on the South Beach diet. I got tired of it and remember all the success i'd once had when I did the program with my mother in college. I can't wait for my first weigh in on Monday and was looking to see if I could join you all. I live by myself and no one I know is doing the program...Let me know!

Welcome Carnelian ! The more the merrier! You can do it . It does take a lot of dedication, resolve, and commitment... but the rewards make it so worth it ! I got to goal a few years ago (and unfortunately gained some back ... but not all!) I refused to gain more so came back to WW and BCB. I will get to 140, and then head to 130. Set small goals for yourself -- and make sure to reward yourself along the way. I weigh in tomorrow. Not sure how I'll do. Had a good week OP but it's PMS week (which usually means up at least a lb. We'll see). I FEEL so much better ...even though the scale may not show it tomorrow!

Thanks Cheryl and Suzie. I had such a long day today. I teach and then on the weekends I wait tables. It's almost one in the morning and I am spent. I look forward to weigh in! I went over points today; 1 piece of angel food cake with icing. yikes. good thing I have plenty of flex points left. I am really glad to be back in weight watchers. If I had had that piece of cake on the SBD, I would've felt incredibly guilty and then eaten more! Good night. - Julie

Carnelian - "Going over points" really means going over your flex points. If you have flex points left, then you can use them (as you did). I've found that I can't use too many flex points early in the week though -- as it's too hard to restrict myself to just 20 points all other days (then I really do feel more like it's a diet - which it's not!) YOu can always earn some AP's too and then not have to use your extra flex points. Some poople are "afraid" to use flex points. They are there to be used ! If you only eat at the target (20 or 22) then once you get to maintenance you are only going to get to add a few points above that ! I'd rather eat 23-25 /day(which includes my flex points) and then add a few points on to THAT once I hit maintenance. Remember this is a lifetime change... not just "till we get to goal". Good luck on your weigh in today. I am headed to my weigh-in in about an hour too.

Carnelian
04-24-2004, 07:19 AM
Thanks - I've been getting so many differing ideas about how to use the flex points. Some are saying to use them all. Others say that when they do they usually just maintain. Some don't use them at all and lose either significantly or just a tiny bit. Still others use about half. It's a little more overwhelming than the 1-2-3 success. I never banked my points on that program, so now I am kinda clueless in this situation. How many AP points do you earn for how many minutes of exercise? I haven't gotten to week 3 yet (i think that's when I get the activity tracker thing). And my weigh in is on Monday, so I'll have nothing to share today. Good luck to you and sorry for all the dumb novice questions. I'm meeting my friend for a jog and an hour of tennis!

Down 1.8 this week!!! So shocked! Had a great OP week, but I am PMSing and I am always up those weeks. Sometimes I just don't get the human body! haha!

Re: AP's - I don't earn any right now. Have been rehabing from both an elbow and knee injury and all I can do is Pilates. It's wonderful, but not aerobic (so I don't really count any points for it). At week 3, you'll get your sliderule to figure out AP's. Don't count them till then. Just focus on the basics - figuring out points for foods, getting a balance of foods, getting your water and vitamin in each day, and JOURNALING! That's enough for the first 3 weeks.

Re: Flex points - yes, I've seen everything on the board from people using none (which I don't agree with at all) to using all. I am somewhere in between. Sometimes I use all, sometimes I use most (last week I had 8 left). As I said before, I'd rather eat more now and not feel deprived (and maybe lose a little slower), than to eat less now -- and LESS ON MAINTENANCE/LIFETIME! YOu have to figure out what works for you. Some people lose less when they eat less. You don't want to starve yourself. Play with the flex points and see what works for you. It also depends on what you eat for your flex points. Calories are calories, but it's better to eat them in fruits, veges than just having more sugary snacks.

Hope you all had a good week too! Onward to 140 ... one of these days !

Cheryl, Congrats! graemlins/bcbsalute.gif

Carnelian--APs are derived from a formula based on your weight, the intensnity of your workout, and the duration of your workout. Wait until Week 3 and you will get an AP calculator. If you don't want to wait, post the question about how to calculate APs in the daily thread or Exercise thread--someone there is bound to know the answer.

As for Flex Points--I would STRONGLY recommend eating them all to start with. I eat 22 points per day (even though WW says I should eat 20), all my APs (I earn about 24-28 a week), and all my Flex Points, and I have been losing pretty consistently.

Good luck, and keep posting! graemlins/bcbsalute.gif

Hi ladies! I had a great weigh in! Down 3.8 lbs. I know the first few weeks the weight comes off pretty swiftly, but it just gave me such a boost. And it helped confirm that I am doing alright with my points. I ended up using all but 5 of my flex points - pretty good! Have a nice night!

Laura--Good for you for having a plan for the week. I agree that 20 is a difficult points target to manage--that's why I set mine at 22! :D As for the mental part, there *is* something strange/nerve-wracking about being so close to goal, isn't there?

I'm doing fine this week. Nothing exciting, but staying OP just fine. graemlins/bcbsalute.gif

After last week finally getting into the 140's I WI today and gained 1.6 lbs to WI at 150.8 lbs. I am hoping that a lot of it is water retention. I have been really thristy since Sat. I have started back to consistent exercise and I had a lot of sugar on Sat (out with my singles group but stayed OP) but because of that sugar I was munching more on Sun and Mon. I am going to watch my sugar in take this week and get more water in. I was also nervous about having only 20 pts. I know it was only 2 pts less than before but for some reason it really bothered me. I have never been nervous before when getting to a new target. I don't know if I was nervous at only having 20 pts or if it was realize how close to goal I am. Will I will be working on the mental aspect this week and hopefully next week I will be back in the 140's

Laura - you don't really have "only 20 points per day now"... you have 5 more per day (25) if you divide your flex points over 7 days. Are you using them? Don't starve yourself on 20 per day. Plus you can earn more points per day with AP's.

What a day. I left my gradebook at one of the schools I teach at. I left my journal (where I record everything!!!!for weight watchers and more). I almost forgot my lunch and had to go back to the morning school I'm at to get it. Then a teacher who shares her classroom with me had some fruit salad and low carb bagels and cream cheese. I persevered by eating the fruit (it was fresh - yum!) and threw the bagels out after she left!!! Hooray to that! - I love reading everyone's posts here. They make me see that progress is progress, no matter how big or how tiny! Have a great night!

I know I have Ap's and flex. I am not straving myself but it more being axious or worrying about points. I was fine until all the sugar I had gave me the munchies. I was just unease about having a 20 pt target even though I was doing fine until the weekend. I tend to save most of my flex points for the weekend. I am single and my church singles group does things on the weekend. Even if the activity does not involve food, by the end food is involve. It is so hard to plan what food there will be or where we will eat so I like having the majority of my flex points for this. I am going to use a little more flex points during this week nothing is planed with singles this weekend.

Hi All! WOW - we are up to 5 pages now ! Just got back from meeting/ weigh-in. Down .6 this week which brings me to 142! I can see 140 right around the corner now!

Julie - I actually got "tennis elbow" from too much computer work at my job. I used to play tennis a lot in college (many years ago) and then some after that too. But haven't picked up a racket in a long time. Maybe once I get this elbow healed, I will try again. I loved it!

Laura- I tend to use most of my flex points on the weekends too (then a few each day during the week). I love having my weigh in on a Saturday. When do you weigh in ? Maybe changing your day may make it easier for you to juggle those flex points. I am going out to dinner tonight, so I'm sure I'll use a bunch tonight.

Suzie- congrats on the 1 lb loss. We are both at 142 now! Can't wait to get to 140 .. then beyond!

Sandra - starting a new job and traveling a lot are hard. Sounds like you did okay though !

Mary Beth - your weight loss sounds like mine -- down fractions of a pound per week. I told the weigher today "I'll take anything that's a minus!"

Hope you all have a good week!

I have attend other days but I don't leave as up lifted as I do my Tues meeting. My leader is so helpful and is sometimes more excited by my milestones than I am. I am doing better this week with points and I even got together with singles group today. I think it was a mental thing about being so close to goal. As the person who started this group let me first apologize for not posting for the last two weeks. Although it's not an excuse I've had company from all over the Country for the last two weeks and have not had a moment to myself. Let me start by saying welcoming newcomers and saying that we're all doing quite well. I am 1.2 lbs from my 10% and 140. (I've got another 5lbs to get to WG after that, and another 5lbs to get to my PG.) I'm anxious to get to my 10% in the next two weeks - our leader, who is very motivating (especially at 8:00 on a Saturday morning) is leaving. He moved and now travels 1 1/2 hours each way for our meetings.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Hi Ladies- Weight is down today! Monday weigh in is hard, but keeps me on the straight and narrow during the weekend. I ate most of my flexs on graham crackers. I couldn't stop! Well, I could - I chose not too. I guess that is my red light food. I ate chinese yesterday (egg drop soup = 1 point), shrimp and broccoli (2 per cup). Anyway - I am down 2.4. Yay! Hi all ! TGIF !! smile.gif It's been another crazy busy week at work. So glad it's Friday. Only one week till vacation! It's been a good OP week - still have 14 flex points left too. I definitely dip into them whenever needed (like on weekends) but try not to use them as an excuse to overeat though.

Has anyone tried WW e-tools online? I tried the free 2 week trial and loved it - so decided to keep it for a while. I love journaling online (and having the computer calculate points for me - plus you can keep all your favorite foods in memory). I also like to see the whole "week at a glance" on one page - gives you a good perspective on how many points you are using for what (b-fast, lunch, snacks, etc). If you haven't tried it, you might want to check out the free trial. I got a code from WW meeting to try it. Just be sure to cancel it before 2 weeks are over if you don't want to keep it though - or they charge you!

Hope everyone has a great Friday!

How is everyone doing this week so far? I didn't go out to dinner Sat night (as I usually do-and use a bunch of flex points), so I have all my flex points to spread out throughout the week. I'm sure hoping to break 142 this Saturday - stayed the same last week. It's amazing how much even .1 makes a difference. I know we shouldn't be so tied to that # on the scale, but I still am. Of course it FEELS so much better when clothes start to fit more loosely !! I put a pair on last week that hadn't fit in a long time -- and they fit! It was wonderful !!!

Laura - Great Job! CHeryl, I can sympathyze. This week didn't go so well. I gained .6. And I know that isn't much, but it isn't the direction I want to see it go. Here were some of the contributing factors I think led to this. (Let me know if I'm wrong) 1. I usually exercise daily, but missed Fri, sat, sun, and mon before WI. 2. I was eating alot of points in bread and wasn't getting all my veggies and 3. I drank on saturday night ( a rare occurrence) and was dehydrated and sick on sun (day before WI). This week I am recommitting to the veggies (cooking them at night to take with me in the morning to school). Well - ladies have a great week. This week is going to see a definate decrease on the scale, - Julie

Hi everyone graemlins/wave.gif
I haven't posted in a while either, seems as though I had been struggling with the same 1 pound for the last couple of weeks going from 145 to 146 and back. Well this morning I finally lost that pound and found myself at 144, so I was very excited and had to share the good news. Now then I also just found out at work that I will be travelling again for the next 3 weeks, I will be coming home during the weekend, I am gonna do my best to stick to my points, drink plenty of water and keep up with my workouts. I want to come back after 3 weeks and be able to say that either A) I have maintained or B) I lost a pound or two.
I will let you guys know, I hope everyone has a great evening.

Happy weekend ! Just got home from meeting/weigh-in. Down 1.8 this week! WOOHOO! That puts me at 140.2 !! The biggest challenge is going to be the coming week - I'm on vacation starting today(for 10 days) staying at home and having my 20-year old niece visiting from CT. Our goal is to eat healthy and I'm sure we'll do a lot of walking! Tomorrow we are walking in a big city-wide race (Bay to Breakers) - only doing 1/2 since my knee is still a problem, but that will still be 3 miles!

I'm so close to 140 that I can taste it -- so that's going to be a big motivator to stay OP this week !

I am down 1.8 lbs this week. I know Weigh 146.2 lbs. I had an awesome weekend. My birthday was Sat and I went on a hike with my singles group. I was with three other people in the front of the group and we ended up walking farther than everybody else. I ended up walking 7.7 miles at a fairly good pace. I even climbed over down trees. I still get excited over being in the front of the group. I still have a picture of myself in the rear of the group and struggling. On Fri I went celebrated my birthday with my best friend. We at dinner then went for a 3 mile walk. It was a light walk for me but fun all the same. I needed all this exercise after Wed. I went to choir and found out that a friend and choir member died of cancer. I came home and ate things I should have but I did realize what I was doing after awhile and stoped before I did more damage.

I am so execited :D I only have a little over 11 lbs to go to reach my WW goal.

My friends even had fresh fruit and veggie shishcabobs - a great feat for them! I lost a lb this week, am down to 138.4 and am thrilled. I got compliments this weekend - what a boost. Hi everyone, hope everyone's weekend is going good so far, the temp here is so nice, I went for a 30 min run this morning. I am back from my 3 week travel to Toronto, it is so good to be home. I do have some good news to report, I got on the scale this morning and it said 142 that means I lost 3 pounds while I was away. I kept up my running and ate pretty good, I did let myself indulge once a week or so. The last week that I was out there I ran in the morning with a friend and then in the evening ran on the treadmill...I need to get runs in as I am running my 2nd half marathon on Father's day smile.gif

I will also be returning to Toronto a few more times and I will continue on with my weightloss journey.
I also want to let you all know that I really missed this board, I look forward to reading everyones successes and struggles as that is how we all learn (from each other)....

Hey buddies,

I'm back from my travels. I have decided not to weigh in until next month, on July 10th. The scale was doing an up-and-down thing that I just didn't need to see. So for now, it's OP all the way and no scale monster to contend with.

Julie--You're in the 130s, buddy! Congratulations! graemlins/crazy.gif :D graemlins/crazy.gif

Laura--Hang in there. Those 2 pounds will come off in no time!

Cheryl--Take care of yourself, buddy. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Sandra--You're doing great! I'm looking forward to hearing the report from the half-marathon. I've decided to train for the Detroit half-marathon in October, so I'll be needing pointers.

Okay buddies, catch you later!

I WI today and Lost 4.6. The scale finally caught up with my efforts. Two weeks ago I WI and was up 2 lbs. but that was mainly due to too much salt the day before. Last week I maintained but it was right before TOM and I usually gain then. So I now have 6.8 lbs to go to reach my WW goal. I now weight 141.8 lbs I am almost in the 130's

Hi there!

Long time, no see! Series of vacations - Florida, Italy, Greece and surgeries - my daughter's and mine.
Congratulations! It's quite encouraging to see how well you all have done:

Cheryl - You're there
Suzie - Wow!
Mary Beth - What's new with you.

You'll all be leaving, headed for 130 and I am still here - 148, still going to 140. New begin, again. Wish me luck!

Marilyn--Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed your vacations and are recovering well from the surgeries. 148 is only 8 pounds from 140. Dust yourself off, draw up a plan, and get to it!

Julie--You are doing *wonderfully.* The weight is just melting off you, buddy! The half-marathon in January sounds like fun. Have you started training yet? I'm beginning my "official" training on Sunday but have been doing about 3-4 miles 3 times a week for the past few weeks.

Take care, buddies. Have a great OP day!

HEY! HEY BUDDIES!

Where did everyone go? I hope all of you are doing well and working on getting down to 140. I'm doing well, I have 16 days OP under my belt and am not weighing in for about another two weeks.

I'd love to hear some updates from my getting to 140 buddies!

I had trouble finding this thread on the new board. I WI last Tues and stayed they same. I was still pretty sore from my 5 hr, 6 miles 3000 elevation gain hike. from the Sat before. I enjoyed the hike but was sore. So my weight is 141.8 and I have 6.8 lbs left to reach my WWG

What a hike that was, Laura! How cool! I went hiking last weekend, too, but it took us 5 hours to do 18 miles because here in Michigan where I am there's not much elevation to be gained, unfortunately. I miss the uphill climbs--seriously!

Keep hanging in there--you'll be down at goal soon enough.

How's everyone doing? Been a bit slow around here. Have you all left me behind for the 130s? :D

Am I here by myself? COME OUT, COME OUT, WHEREVER YOU ARE!

I've updated my stats to reflect that I have gained and am no longer 1 pound away from 140. However, I have posted my plan and am ready to make it down there to 140.

Anyone with me?

I'm still here too.............stuck at 145 for the last?????? Don't even know how many months. I so want to get to 140 in 6 weeks, shouldn't be too hard to loose 5 pounds in 6 weeks should it :)
Then from there it's my next goal to 130...
