Some of my best thinking has been done in one of two places: either in the shower, or driving in the car. I found myself thinking about how Ziggy would post a weekly topic for us to discuss (which was great, thanks Ziggy!) I missed that, and thought maybe we should try and restart that. Maybe we could take turns introducing something to think about so the onus wouldn't be on one person.
So.. if you are willing, I thought I'd start:
********************
Self Talk
********************
Anyway, the thought hit me in the car that a lot of times our self talk is negative - and not just in obvious ways, but in subtle ways that maybe we dont' always realize.
Like the "I onlies": "I only lost 1.6 <or insert other amounts>", or "I only did 15 minutes on the bike." I'm sure you buddies can think of others!
I guess my point is that even subtle negativism can wear down a person's spirits. So when I find myelf thinking, "I've only....." I stop and try and rephrase it right away, to "I did .." or "I've lost..." or "I'm doing it, I'm on my way!"
Have you noticed yourself doing the "I onlies" or some other form of negative self-talk? What are you doing about it?
