I promised Linda and Karen a tour of Heemskerk.
I hope this works. Just click on below and follow the instructions.

web page (http://www.heemskerk.nl/)

the picture of the mud whole is an archaeological site. The foot prints are a man and a horse and re 2000 years old!! It is from before the Ice age. (Karen and Linda ,no regular mud, lol!!)

click on the left hand side “Wonen en leven”
then click on “Recreatie en ontspanning”
then click on “Bijzondere locaties”
Click on each red lettered link.
Slot Assumburg is around the corner from my house, like 3 minute walk, it is also the place I got married.
The huldtoneel, is the place where in the middle ages offers were made and later people were knighted on this little symbolic hill.
After visiting all these links go back to the left hand side and click on “Virtuele tour door Heemskerk”. It will take you on a tour of our fine city.

I hope you guys enjoy the tour Virtual Tour of Heemskerk.

Okay, folks, I got the idea for this from Tina's thread -- so line up to post photos of your home town! I've got some dandy shots of Cincinnati!

By the way, if you're having problems finding a picture, check out Google Images (http://images.google.com/) -- just type in the name of your city or town and Google will show you any images out there.

YBor city is our famous cigar city outside of Tampa, it was almost burned to the ground a few years ago. Some buildings cold not be restored as they were here long before the Cuban immigrants. If you are looking for a wonder plate of chicken and yellow rice, or a wild and wooly party, you won't find better than here.

OK, you're on. Though you know we're creating a thread that will take forever for some buddies to load - and should not let it get too big!

It appears that some of the photos I found are protected from being served to other sites (displayed here as photos). I can link to them, but the image won't display here. So click away!

Here's a view of downtown Owego NY (http://www.gaslightvillagegazette.com/owego21_tour.jpg) that looks at lot like like this
old postcard. (http://www.rootsweb.com/~nytioga/frontow.jpg) Many of the buildings are still there.

Here's an aerial view (http://www.gaslightvillagegazette.com/evergreen_view_one_spring.jpg). The bridge on the left is gone, this is the new bridge. (http://communitypress.crosswinds.net/courtstbridge/DSCN3691.jpg)

This one was taken near the top of the hill I live on. (http://www.visittioga.com/imageuploads/evergreen_view_three.jpg) The view is pretty in all seasons. Yes we get fall colors!

And this is my church (parts are over 100 years old): http://www.tier.net/~stpauls/churchfront.jpg

GrahamCracker

Nancy: I was thinking the same thing so I went and removed a few of my pics. Your church is beautiful, such old world charm! I love stone and brick buildings, something we have very few of in Florida. Almost all our houses are wood frames, masonary block, or a combo of both. No charm there. We do have some quaint cracker homes that they've restored. These are tiny homes, fairly ugly, but still got lots of charm!

Bizz: Melbourne is absolutely gorgeous. I'd move there in a minute if it wasn't so dang hot! But a visit will certainly be in order. I wonder if I can talk my cross-stitching buds into a week in Australia!

Cinna: I love the mill. There's a mill not far from my Mom and Dad's place that's inside the Smoky Mountains. I always stop there for white corn meal. Little Rock's skyline looks pretty decent. Almost bigger than Tampa's. Did you notice a lot of us have big city skylines on water?

Mardee: Cincinnati is really pretty. I can remember driving to my uncles funeral in MI a couple years ago and since we were driving straight through it was late at night. I saw this big glow off in the the distance and asked my sister what it was. She said it had to be Cincinnati it was the only town we were near. We both just stared as we passed by - it was huge! But your buildings remain gorgeous and quaint too!

WhereForArt
08-03-2003, 05:02 AM
Everyone's hometowns look so pretty -- it makes me want to jump in a car or plane and visit them all! Gram, you're right -- many of the skylines are on water. Cincinnati sits right on the Ohio River. Of course, the problem with that is occasional flooding, something you don't have to worry about with the ocean.

http://images.google.com/images?q=tbn:BpLSXNzrhw4C:www.asahi-net.or.jp/~et9t-kwtn/canada/calgary.jpg

However, this is the tiny village in Ontario that I grew up in:

Lots of rivers and trees:

Great idea! This is such fun looking at everyone's home town. I actually don't live in Austin (anymore), but my town is so small, it's hard to find great pics of Marble Falls. So, I'm doing the Austin area -- which was my home for 20 years and where I still work (with an hour's communte each way).

Shot of the Texas state capital:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b3d624b3127cce8c713eed5fae0000001610

The infamous 6th Street -- party central:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b3d624b3127cce8c713ed75f940000001610

Pennybacker Bridge going over Lake Austin (there is actually quite a bit of building that has taken place around this area since this picture was taken):
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b3d624b3127cce8c713ee4de970000001610

Bluebonnets - the state flower - cover the state during the spring. Absolutely spectacular:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b3d624b3127cce8c713e095f4a0000001610

And this is from atop Mt. Bonnell, where my DH proposed:
http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b3d624b3127cce8c7178a3def30000001610

Austin is really a lovely city and unlike what most people vision Texas to be like.

Hi buddies, thought I would add my hometown.
I live in Canfield now, but grew up in Youngstown. I'll try and add a few pics of both.

Here is a drawing of the gazebo that stands on the Canfield town green. The green is home to the 4th of July parade, craft shows and summer concerts. It's really beautiful. I couldn't find a real picture, so this drawing will have to do.

http://www.svata.org/cards/9.jpg

This is what Youngstown looked like when I was growing up. That was before Black Tuesday. When the steel mills closed down and many people lost jobs.
http://www.calmspirit.com/Youngstown%20Ohio%20Republic%20Steel%20Corporation .jpg

Youngstown now:

http://www.aaroadtrips.com/ohio/i-680_sb_youngstown_skyline.jpg

The Butler Art Musuem. Quite a nice place for Youngstown. It is located on the campus of Youngstown State University. Home of the Penguins football team. Jim Tressels old team.

http://www.fpa.ysu.edu/CISP/images/ysu1.jpg

The old Mill in Mill Creek Park.

http://members.aol.com/fixtron/mill.gif

These pictures are of Idora Park, an amusement park in the heart of Youngstown. It has gone through some good and bad times before finally being closed down in 1984. This ball room was burned down in the late 80's, more than likely due to arson.

http://members.aol.com/idorapark8/ballback.jpg

http://kaywilsonstudio.com/15idora72.jpeg

Well, Youngstown doesn't compare to some of these other places, but it is home.
