Someone told me to drink ice cold water as it takes more for your body to heat it to your body temp and thus burning more calories. Is this true? Does drinking cold water burn calories?
The reason being - I can chug water more easily if it's room temp no matter what type of container it's in. I drink out of a sportsbottle as it's easier for me to drink out of than a regular glass.

does anyone else think it's strange that the article also says don't add and extra gallon of water everyday? Can you drink too much?!?!

Yes, you can drink too much. Look up water intoxication. Or click on these two links:

As with all things, moderation and common sense should prevail. Don't go eat a doughnut then drink a gallon or two of ice cold water trying to burn it off. smile.gif

YES - I posted this on another thread and got a little repercussion from it.
Also note that the article says though that you should not eat too little and then drink tons of water.
Sometimes if I drink a lot of water (like a gallon or more) in a short amount of time - few hours - I feel nauseous and kinda lightheaded or spacey - I stop drinking water and after about an hour or two I feel better. I think it's my body telling me that it's just too much!

Klerisa,
I believe I apoligized in that last thread, as I never intended for my rebuttal to sound as harsh as you took it. That said, I apoligize again. I simply have a different opinion here.
That said, I made this point the last time water toxicity came up, and that is -- you usally have to be going through extremely strenuous exercise in conjunction with a lot of water consumption. Marathon running etc....
I just don't believe it's something the vast majority of us need to worry about, and as usual, when you're getting your information off the web, be careful of the source (not that there's anything wrong with the ones mentioned here).
The other truth is, drink a gallon of ANY liquid in a short amount of time, and of course you're going to feel sick!

I love my water ice cold! My husband often says, "geez, have a little water with your ice!" I also just read that your fluid consumption doesn't have to be counted as just water. Fluid in is fluid in, so I keep track of anything that I drink.

I've always drank my water by freezing a container half full of water, then adding cold water on top so I was always drinking ice water. Trouble was, I was always chilled, cold hands, cold feet, cold all the time. I had managed to reduce my core body temperature so that I could never warm up. Lately, I've switched to drinking hot water with a bit of lemon and I notice a big difference right away. I still prefer ice water, but I was tired of feeling cold all the time.
I tell my classes that you CAN get too much water but you would notice the gills growing on the side of your neck first. tongue.gif
Gross solution...check the color of your urine, If it's clear you have had enough if its got some color than enjoy another glass..... ;)
