hello buddies!
i'm going to be studying in spain this summer for one month, and i'll be living with a host family while i'm there.
i've already been briefed about some of the cultural differences as they pertain to food in spain -- eating schedules are different, lunch is the heaviest meal, many foods are fried, etc.
so, i'm getting slightly nervous about following points, and i'm really hoping to get a points guide to common foods in spain. i've gone on the web site for WW in spain, and there's a list of products available similar to what we have. unfortunately, i can't purchase these on the web site.
i've e-mailed WW in the U.S. does anyone have any better ideas? better yet, does anyone live in spain who would be willing to do me a huge favor by forwarding me some information?

Skyesque -
I'm not sure about Spain, but I know that the Mediteranean countries have similar ways of cooking. I went to Italy a few years ago and stayed for two and a half weeks. I was worried, as most of the food was either pasta, gelato (ice cream) or was fried, etc. HOWEVER, along with all this food, we walked everywhere. Elevators are far and few between, and the lack of modern conveniences means that you will burn those calories you ingest. Also, most of the fats you have will me the more heart-healthy kind. So, my advice would be to do your best, but also guage your eating by the amount of activity you do. I know I was drop-dead tired every night I was there. I had a BLAST!

linda,
thanks for your assurances. i definitely intend to get in some major APs while i'm there. the only problem is i'm rather adventurous when it comes to food, and i'm sure that i will want to try everything ... i'm just going to have to remember portion control.
the person who responded to my e-mail to WW HQ was not very helpful. she only said that materials from the spanish program aren't available here. i checked the international archives on this site, and saw at least one buddy from spain. not sure if she's still out there, though ...
i may end up trying to attend a meeting in seville anyway, both to get some materials and just to check out how a different country approaches WW.

My sister lives in Seville and it is a challenge to stay on program when I visit. Olive oil, and lots of it, is common in most everything and they do eat a lot of fried food. I would suggest keeping portions small and with the walking you will be doing you should be okay.
Where will you be studying?

Hi! Just did a quick google search and came up with this website. Maybe through it you can contact someone who can give you some answers?? Good luck - I'd love to spend a month in Spain this summer! (Any room in your suitcase? ;) )
