I am trying to point out some lean ground beef.

It is 93% lean
1.4 lbs (or 1 and 1/2)

I a making a recipe, and have found conflicting point info, there is no info on the pckg!

TIA mandyB

Okay, I am confused. I thought 1.4 was a pound and 1/4. 1lb=16oz?? Can some one clarify? Otherwise I am way off.

Mandee---for lean ground beef, I usually do 1-2 pt per ounce. Based on labels that I have seen on the lean ground beef package (Laura's), one pretty good sized hamburger is 4 pts. I think the last time I looked at the label it (4 oz serving) was like 160 calories and 7 grams of fat, no fiber.
You may want to wait and get other suggestions. We don't eat ground beef much at all so I may be off. Have you ever tried substituting ground turkey? There is not much difference in the taste and it is lower points.

In the week one 'getting started' book, beef is listed as 2 points per ounce for both lean and regular ground beef.
I tell my classes to not stress over a point when calculating recipies. 1 point "ain't what got me fat" and stressing over a point could possibly 'burn off' a point....lol
enjoy your recipie.

Mandy: I am able to get 96% "ultra" lean ground beef at our grocery store and according to the label on it it works out to 1 pt per ounce. Have a great day!

Hey, Jenny,

1 lb does equal 16 oz. But when they show on the package that it's 1.4 lbs, that means it's 1 pound plus 4/10s of another pound - meaning 22.4 ounces. (1 pound and a quarter would be marked as 1.25 - which is 20 ounces.)

Just wanted to add that when I calculated points from the label for 97% lean meat it was 4 points for 4 oz. That would mean a point per ounce.
