View Full Version : How do I point this?

Went to a German restaurant tonight. Knew all week I'd be going so started the day with 29 flex points. Also had a church breakfast and lunch out so knew it would be a tough day.

Breakfast was 9 points but got in 2 servings of fruit from fruit salad and 1 serving of milk so that wasn't bad.

Lunch was at McDonalds: grilled chicken sandwich and a salad. So far, I deserve a gold star!

Dinner was to be late so I ended up having 3 points of a reasonable snack (cut veggies, milk and a breakfast brownie) but then ended up having a serving of cheezies (6pts). All of a sudden, I'm out of target points for the day (24.)

Didn't think dinner would be a challenge since I can always have chicken. Not here. No grilled chicken on the menu except for grilled chicken in a cream peppercorn sauce. Couldn't order it without the sauce. I could have had the steak but was trying to fit in with my hosts who had specifically requested we go to this restaurant.

So I settled for Chicken Weiner Schnitzel. Because I had settled on the peppercorn chicken I didn't pay attention to the sides for the Schnitzel except to ask for roast potatoes. They were out of roast potatoes so put the home fries on my plate. I scraped as much of the schnitzel coating off as I could, ate only about 3 oz of chicken and only ate half the hash browns (am counting those as a 5) but I haven't a clue how much to count the schnitzel at. I didn't have any dessert, bread, alcohol or veggies aside from a plain salad.

I figured I'd just go on Dotties when I got home and find out how much the schnitzel would be from the WeinerSchnitzel restaurant. Silly me, being Canadian, I didn't realize they don't sell weiner schnitzel.

I only have dial up internet (and no patience) but from the limited searching I've done (including the recipes area here for both ethnic and pork and WW points), I haven't found any nutritional breakdown for chicken schnitzel. My Joy of Cooking says it could have been either deep fried or sauteed in 3/4c of butter, so I'm thinking I've just had all my flex points for the week in one meal.

Any links anyone can find to give me a clue what damage I've done?

I still have tomorrow and Monday before I get more flex points but tomorrow is under my control and is going to be turkey for dinner, lots of veggies and fruit for dessert. Monday, if we eat out, we'll be choosing the restaurant so I'll be in better shape there too.

But it would be nice to know if I just accidentally ate a 29 point dinner.

...Kathryn

(who's eating her 1pt cheesecake dessert and having tea at home now even when she doesn't know whether or not she has the points because she wants something decadent to finish off a very trying day.)

I don't know if there is a difference from german schnitzel and Israeli schnitzel, and I don't know the points for it either (but would like to). What I do know is that my Bro makes the Israeli kind and he coats it w/egg, covers it in bread crumbs and spices, and then fries it in a lot of oil. It is one of my Fav foods though.

P.S. If it is 9pts, that means your dinner was only 14pts and you still have 14FP left even with the cheesecake. So, don't worry, calm down, and breathe deep.

Thanks guys!

I'll take the 9 points! I was comparing it to a McChicken (12 points with the bun, guessing 9 without!) and then thinking it looked a lot larger (because schnitzel is pounded so thin) so I was panicking I'd eaten an 18 point schnitzel.

I must say the coating didn't seem deep fried, so 3 points for the chicken and 6 for the coating and cooking fat sounds like a slight over estimation but that's ok.

The most important thing to know is that the veal is only 9 points. The chicken was really dry (first time I've had chicken schnitzel) so if there is a next time (and there probably will be since dd goes to university in a German area of Ontario and dh loves schnitzel), I'll go with the veal. But I'll feel more in control next time.

BTW, the sun is out this morning and the scale showed a slight decrease so I'm feeling a lot better about yesterday. Eating late is so hard on me at the best of times and everyone else had appetizers so my main course didn't arrive until after 8. I figure the points I blew on the cheezies would have been blown on bread at the restaurant if I hadn't had them so the day ended up going OK but my blood sugars were still out of whack when I posted last night.

Today will be better, the big, unmanageable meal for the week is out of the way.

Online database says weiner schnitzel is 9 points for "1 slice" or 3 oz. But, this is with veal. But, I checked and veal was about the same as chicken. But, you scraped some of the breading off, so take off a few points. So maybe it's 6 points?
