??? Since when? I LOVE Pepsi!! Love it, love it, love it!!
Since I started WW two weeks ago I've drank nothing but water and an occasional diet Coke with Lime (only diet soda I like).
I cracked open a Pepsi (regular) today to "splurge" and omg - it's UCKY. It's bitterly sweet. I know thats oxymoron but YUCK!
What happened? I'm hoping this is a good thing?

I ahven't had a regular Coke or Pepsi for so long, I'd probably spit it out if I did! lol. My teenage years were spent permanently attached to a Pepsi bottle, I think. Now you couldn't get me near the stuff if you paid me.
It's a good thing. You don't need that syrup!

I agree with what you said. I took a mere sip from my daughter's Coke, and almost gagged. This is from someone who could down 12oz. in seconds without batting an eye.
Guess my "sweet" buds have unsweetened smile.gif

I've been drinking diet soda for years, although I don't have it that often anymore. Maybe 1 or 2 a week, usually when I have popcorn for a snack. I'm a big fan of water, and have been for ages. But every now and then (maybe every few weeks), I have to have a can of Coke. Yes, it's insanely sweet, but that must be what I'm craving at that time. (And that's the only time a can of Coke is worth 3 points!)

Remember the fiasco back in the 80's when they came out with the "New Coke"... graemlins/ugh.gif They made it sweeter to taste more like Pepsi and a lot of die-hard Coke drinkers actually ended up switching to Diet Coke since it tasted more like the original..
The "New Coke" died a very swift death... Now anykind of regular just tastes too sweet!!

Wish I had lost my sweet tooth. I'm a big water drinker, with an occasional diet vanilla coke. When I have an occasional regular pepsi, or for that matter anything else sweet, it tastes absolutely delicious.
Maybe this is how it should be though. Now I really enjoy the taste, rather than not noticing it and drinking it like water.

I cannot STAND the taste of full-sugar soda! I'm one of those people they used to talk about who would order a double cheeseburger, large fries and a Diet Coke! WHY? Because I cannot tolerate all that sugar! graemlins/crazy.gif Of course, now I can't stand all that fat either! :D

i found this out for myself a few days ago!!! i havent had regular soda for a while, mostly diet or water. i was having an awful day, and instead of bingeing, i grabbed a coke and counted the points. well, it wasnt worth it! coke (or pepsi, for that matter), has NEVER been too sweet for me. the other day, it was like drinking pure syrup. no more for me!!! if my brother can do it (NO soda for more than 2 months) i can do it!!!

How do you get past the diet soda after taste? I can do Diet Mtn. Dew and Diet Dr. Pepper but they have to be almost frozen to drink them.

I'm the same way with soda. I used to drink a diet Pepsi every day (and by one I mean a 20 oz. bottle). Now, I have a sip of my husband's every month or so and it is TOO SWEET!!!
I was thinking about this when I was eating carrots with my lunch today. I was really noticing their flavor and how sweet they were. A year ago I would have found them flavorless.

The same thing happened to me with Dr Pepper. I didn't think I could ever, ever drink diet, but when they came out with Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper, I tried that and found the aftertaste wasn't too bad. I decided to "treat" myself to a regular Dr P on Sat (right after WI :bcb_wink3 ) and after 3 weeks I stopped because it just didn't taste good anymore.
I'm trying to convince my mother to try this -- she's diabetic, but still drinks regular Pepsi.

Me too! I could drink at least 6 cans of regular Mt Dew a day. Diet Mt Dew is only diet pop I can drink. If I have to, I'll have a regular Coke, but it is much too sweet. I don't even know why I drink the whole can!

Diet Pepsi to me is one of the worst diet sodas. Have you tried Coke Zero? It tastes more like a regular soda without the calories!

I have always heard that the sweeters in diet pops are bad for you. I have heard this for a very long time, but don't know anyone that has suffered from Aspartame. I stopped doing the Crystal Lights, because of this and now buy the Kool-AidŽ Singles, they are just like the Crystal light packets, and taste really good. They have 30 calories per packet & are a good source of Vitamin C and E, & zero points.

Sorry Pepsi has always been Yuck to me.:bcb_bigsm
I go to a resturant I ask for Diet Coke, they say we have Pepsi. They always laugh at me cause I turn up my nose and give this look. Then say I will have water please :bcb_grin

I agree, Diet Pepsi just doesn't take the same for some reason. I don't drink Diet Coke very often because I avoid Caffeine but sometimes a tall icey glass of diet coke with lime juice (key limes) is sooooo yummy! :bcb_up

Seriously???? No points??? I can handle the Koolaids. I stopped drinking them because I thought they were as bad as "coke" (sodas). WOOO HOOOO....:bcb_up
Thanks for the 411

I envy you all whose taste buds are changed. While I never drink regular soda, and I don't mind most of the diet sodas, it's not cause the regular ones are yucky, it's cause I don't wanna waste the points.
I've been doing WW for almost 2 years now, both Flex and Core and I'm sorry to say my tastebuds have never changed. I still like things super sweet, I still love all the foood porn I used to love. Nothing in my actual TASTES have changed, just the choices that I make have changed.

I gave up diet coke a few years ago until recently when I started drinking it again. It was like smoking for me and I was downing twelve or more a day. I had to quit cold turkey because it just wasn't helping my weight loss. Now I'm soda and carbonated drink free and proud.

At 30 calories per packet, wouldn't that make the Koolaid singles 1 pt each?

I use to love Pepsi. Now I never drink it. The only diet drinks I have found that I like are all non cola. My favorite is Sierra Mist Free and close runners up are Diet Sunkist and Diet Sprite.:bcb_grin The Kool Aid packets at 30 cal. would be a pt for one or for two I would not count them as zero. The Crystal lights have 10 cal. per packet and if I have 3 on any one day I add a point for them. Needless to say I never drink three in a day as I'm so stingy to give up points for a drink that's not milk.:bcb_bigsm

You would be correct :bcb_blush . I am sorry hilloftenn if I got your hopes up. I don't know where in the world I got zero points. Maybe I was looking at a Crystal Light box or something, since I have those laying around. :bcb_cry:
On the bright side they are only 1 point and not 3 like a Pepsi. :bcb_up

At one time I loved regular Coke....these days I really enjoy a Coke Blak now and then...the coffee/Coke fusion thing works for me and it's only 1 pt. per bottle.

Klerisa, I had the same thing happen to me. I dearly LOVED Pepsi and gave it up for a few weeks and then DH opened a can one night and I took a mouthful and it was painful to swallow...kind of shocked my tastebuds!! :bcb_yuck: I could hardly believe I once loved the taste...it is sooooo sweet to me now.
I found a new love now...H20!! :water1:
It is a great thing...our bodies don't need all that sugar anyway so take it as a blessing!! WTG!! :bcb_up

Have only taken a drink or two of pepsi in the past few months, usually out of hubby's drink at a restaurant. Like at TacoBell or something, I don't get anything to drink and may take a swig of his. Not enough that I even taste it.
I was a big Mt Dew drinker, 5 or 6 a day. The caffeine was getting to be too much for me so I slowly was able to get that down to one a day by the time I started WW. Then when I saw it was going to cost me 3pts a day, I stopped that one a day habit cold turkey. I think since I joined WW, I've had a total of one can in almost 2 months now. I've measured out 1/3 of a can and drank it with pizza. Just don't like water with pizza for some reason. That 1/3 has been okay with me.
