Well... every few years we outgrown our server and start having issues. I am sure that everyone has been experiencing a lot of up and down time. Basically - I have been working with a company that I hired to investigate, and the software is very outdated and some issues with the hard-drive. I have purchased a brand new server, and this company is going to be moving the site to the new server. There will be a down-time of 2-3 hours *IF* everything goes well, but if they run into errors, it could be much longer.

Next, I believe that the Internet system around the world will need to update, which could cause missing posts and such for a day or so until it is complete. Rest assured, once it is complete, BCB should be humming right along just in time for the New Year!

Thanks, Denise, for all your hard work. You have made a difference in the health and happiness of so many people, including me. It makes it much easier for me to stay OP.

I've make a habit of donating to BCB every year in December, which is when I do my charitable donations. For those who are interested in contributing, just click on "Home" up at the top of this page, and at the bottom left of the home page you will find instructions on how to donate, in the section that looks like this: (the link in this post doesn't work because I just cut and pasted, you have to go to the home page)

Thanks Denise!

I ONLY use this site as my WW guide, I will do what ever it takes to help keep it going. You said you had purchased the server...do we need to reimburse you or was there enough from the site fund to cover it? WE CAN SHARE THE EXPENSE! I know you have done this for years...and already know that! :bcb_grin

Anyway, Thanks again for everything you do! Hope it all comes back on quickly!

Marilyn, thanks for pointing the way to donate towards the site. I was wondering how one would do it, and since I just got my christmas bonus, I decided to donate. I'm very grateful to you, Denise, and everyone who helps run this place. I haven't been around for very long, but it's such a special place to me and want to do my part to support it financially as I can.

Thanks again Denise!

I do have one question though -- maybe it's part of the moving pains or a new part of the board to decrease loading, but I have been encountering a lot of vbulletin messages: "The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later." when trying to post, edit, navigate through the website. If I wait 2-3 minutes, then I can get back in okay.

Just wanted to ask if this will be the norm or a glitch?

(lol, ironically, I just got that error message when trying to post this reply -- so here I am pressing back, and hoping this msg will get through!)

Thank you so much Denise! I have been a member of this board since around 9/2005 and I don't know what I would do without it. I have made so many wonderful friends and I account my successes to this site and the support i get here. I will be checking out the donation area as well.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

So far it's just as bad for me today as it was yesterday. It's been painful to even try to read the site, let alone post anything. Hopefully it will be sorted out soon - I'm sure these things aren't the easiest to diagnose and fix. And hopefully when I hit submit it will actually go. :)

I'm just going to add my "Amen" to what's already been said. I had no clue until I COULDN'T get on BCB how much I really depend on my BCB family to keep me on track. Thank you so much to everyone who makes this board work and makes it look so effortless that we are able to take it for granted. Well, never again, will I take this board for granted. I am truly thankful for this place and I just pray that all of my buddies will hang on until we can be "together" again and support one another.:bcb_bigsm

I hope we're back in business now! Like everyone else, I knew I used this site as support, but never relized how much! I've always planned on sending a donation, but just never got around to it. I'll be sending one TODAY!! It's my turn to support this site! Thanks for all the hard work you do to keep us together and on track. Maybe some other buddies can make a donation as well. Thanks again! :salut

Another big hug of thanks from a BCB addict. If nothing else you have probably discovered there are hundreds, if not thousands, of people who rely on this board for more than just WW support. Friendships have developed which are deep and lasting and this is where we meet. Thank you so much for hanging in there - we knew it would be back and are sorry you had to bear the brunt of all the worry.

Thank you, Denise.

I appreciate all that you do and are going through to keep this board up and running!!

I have so missed being able to pop on BCB for a few minutes to touch base and get grounded.

And, I'm going to take the next step.... instead of "thinking" about donating, I'm doing it today!!!

I'm okay as far as post count goes, but I have noticed that since all of this started, I no longer get any email notification of replies to threads I've posted in. From what I can tell, I haven't changed any of my settings. Is this happening to anyone else?

I noticed in my subscriptions list that all of them had a blank box next to "instant notification" - I tried checking them, but there was no place to "save" it. And even a post I made last night, after things were back to normal, now has replies but I got no notification.

Thank you for all of your hard work!!! It's such a relief to have BCB back again. I have a couple of quick questions--do you know why I can't click on any of the icons (italics, quotes, etc.) or smilies when I'm posting a message, or why I can't skip lines to do paragraph breaks? I've tried logging on in Netscape and in Firefox and I can't seem to do those things in either one....

So, where have all the posts prior to 12/08/07 gone? :bcb_cry:

Edit: Never mind, I found them. Apparently now, if you visit BCB as a guest (not logged in) you can only see messages posted after 12/08/07. That didn't used to be the case before, ALL posts were available to guests. Can we change that back?

Fred, The posts are still there for guests but the default display is changed. You can just use the dropdown box at the bottom of the page in the Display options to change from last month to what ever you choose.

Just as a casual observer I would think the default should be reset for guests to see all posts. Lots of people (well, me) judge the value of an online forum, and the benefits of joining, with the volume of postings they can see. That viewing option being at the bottom of the page can get by a lot of people and give the wrong impression of the amount of good traffic here.

But then, as my wife says, I do not have my own forum!

Did the server update cause some posts to be lost. I know I was at either Lut or Captain stage and I am now down to master sargent. I have definitely posted more than 700 times (more like over 2000)

nancyny

Fiona (and anyone who follows),

Many long-time buddies saw a big drop in post count as part of the server changes.

If it happened to you, you can PM Joanne (plcm11115) or CW and they can fix it. Just let them know about what the number should be.
