I think we all knew. Though I can understand some reservations about going public if her concern was for copy cat fans. The fact that she still has psychological issues should be a red-flag to doctors who iindiscriminately proscribe this procedure. How about a little counselling before surgery! I know many doctors do require some counselling but most do not.

As many of us here can attest to - obesity is not only about food.

Ditto! Ditto! Except I don't know if I believe the copy cat fan excuse. I think she tried to get away with not saying how she lost the weight and because of the pressure she folded and did the interview and confessed. I had a feeling from the git go that she had the surgery. There's no way you can lose all that weight in a short period of time without surgery - dead giveaway.

Med, someone I used to work with had this surgery. She had to go through counseling for a year before the doc would do the surgery.

Bravo to your friend's doctor for being a responsible surgeon.

Even when you lose in a healthy, slow manner, there are still a number of mental and psychological issues to deal with once you reach goal. Especially if you've been overweight for a long time or have lost a lot of weight.

Actually, my first WW leader lost 100 lbs in under a year on Weight Watchers. That's why she was so inspirational to me. 160 lbs in 3 years (Star's loss) is do-able, but not without real, sustained effort.

I think she looks great. Whatever her issues, I hope she solves them.

Hi girls! Someone I know had this surgery, followed by a year of hell, and in several years gained most all of the weight back. You wouldn't think it's possible!

PurpleAngel, I'm with you. I knew she must have had surgery (medical intervention- duh), and I don't believe she was worried about copycats. I do believe she was scared of what people would think of her, and I can sympathize with that.

Sadly, I almost can't stand to look at her now. Her neck, in particular, just freaks me out and her ever-present huge sunglasses don't help matters, either. But looks aren't everything- hopefully she'll gain good health and longer life from shedding all that weight.

I think she's a little TOO skinny if you ask me.

Oh and another thing.. as we all know, if you pay anyone well, they will be happy to do whatever you ask. I wouldn't be surprised if she found a doctor she could pay to just do the surgery w/o her having to go through the extensive psych analysis. JMO.

I have a GF who just had the surgery a few months ago. Although she IS losing weight, as she describes what she eats to me, I can't help but be concerned for her because she's barely eating. How can you get the nutrition you need from like the tiniest piece of meat, a hint of a vegetable, and a piece of whole wheat bread? Then there was some talk of shakes and supplements and nausea. Not my idea of a fun time.
