http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.tmz.com/media/2007/03/0305_washiongton_naacp_wi.jpgTMZ has confirmed that Isaiah Washington has been fired from the ABC hit "Grey's Anatomy."

Washington's rep, Howard Bragman, confirmed this evening to TMZ that "Grey's" creator Shonda Rhimes called Isaiah today and told him he would not be invited back to the show next season. TV Guide's Michael Ausiello (http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TVGuide-Editors-Blog/Ausiello-Report/Exclusive-Greys-Fires/800016659#comments), who first broke the story, reports that the decision was due only in part to Washington's on-set troubles, and was a result of a "pattern of problematic behavior."

As for how he feels about his termination, Washington issued the following statement: "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore."

Paging a mediator, STAT!

I saw that. It's too bad. I really liked his character on the show. But, I also heard the George will definitely be back (and with a raise in pay).

hmmmm.....well did not matter much to me but you know ER has been the only one that when they get rid of a main charater and have been able to replace them and the show go on with success. Hopefully it will not hurt them much. I love that show.

I can think of other shows that have been successful with replacing characters. MASH, Henry Blake repaced by Sherman Potter, Trapper John was replaced by BJ McIntyre
L & O (original). NONE of the original cast members are still there

Some behaviors are deal-breakers.

I'm sad Burke is gone - mostly because he was HOT HOT HOT and I loved the relationship between he and Christina.

As for George - I want him to be faithful to his wife. I also wanted Meredish and Mc.Dreamy to work out but who knows what will happen now...

I agree, but I don't think his was one of them. Calling someone a bad name in the heat of the moment is bad, obviously. But he apologized sincerely, I thought, and did what he could to make up for the damage he did. Also, in an argument between two people, there are by definition two people. Who knows what went on, big picture-wise?

If they fired everybody in Hollywood who ever called a costar a bad name, well, we wouldn't have much to watch, would we? :bcb_wink3

I agree. :bcb_up While what he said was certainly objectionable, I keep thinking there must have been more going on with this whole thing.

It's nice to see people who feel the same way. I think a lot of what he has said in the aftermath could possibly be true. Maybe not 100%, but I don't think it was as bad as it was made out to be.

It's a degrading term, and I don't think anyone should have to work in an environment that accepts or allows that. :salut

But that's just me.

I'm sure the show researched all situations thoroughly before the firing.

I just find it hard to believe he is the only actor who has ever used either this term or one like it. I'm betting there are other incidents similar to this that the public never hears about and where the consequences do not result in someone losing their job. Would that happen in the company where any of us work? I believe the offender would be "talked to", possibly put on some type of probation, but firing? I doubt it.

Where I live? I think it would be a reason for dismissal.

I think he did it onset, and to the actor's face. That makes for a hostile work environment. Not okay these days. :bcb_smile

That "f-----" word, said to a *** person in anger has often preceded acts of violence. I wouldn't have felt safe in that work environment, had I been TJ.

I agree, Luanne.

And whether a person gets called a name referring to their race or gender or sexual orientation or weight or whatever, it's all bad. Nobody here is arguing that calling people names like that is okay at all.

So you're thinking the firing was an overreaction?... :bcb_confu

Are you unhappy about it?....

First of all from what I've read he did NOT say it to the actor's face. He and Patrick Dempsey were having a disagreement and the comment was made. At least that is what has been printed. Who knows what actually happened. I think what made it worse was that he brought it up again and denied saying it at some awards show. But, from everything I heard again, the remark was not made to T R Knight.

Yes, I think the firing was an overreaction. And I'm unhappy mostly because I really enjoyed his character on the show and hate to see him go.

Well, I'm not exactly crying in my cereal about it, but yes, I think it seems like too severe a penalty. As Luanne said, in the normal work world, it would be normal for a person to be reprimanded or maybe receive mandatory training for this kind of thing, and it would go in your personnel file. But you wouldn't get fired over it unless you had done it more than once, or also gotten physical with someone (like pushed them or something), or were already on probation.

I'm not trying to change your mind, Carol. :bcb_smile This is not a big issue to me, and since none of us knows exactly what went on, there's no sense in anyone getting worked up over it. It's just something that seemed kind of bizarre to me, so I commented on it.

Not to beat this to death, but it wasn't said to TJ's face, it was said in an argument with Patrick Dempsey. At least that was what was reported. So, the person who should have felt in danger was Patrick Dempsey. Supposedly they made up right after the incident.

I think there are much worse things said, and done, in the work environment where absolutely no action is taken. Okay, off soapbox now. :bcb_march

I don't watch Grey's Anatomy, and my comment is kinda late for this post, but I was hoping the show would use this from a different angle.

From what I hear, TJ Knight's character is a womanizer. With the reality all of the men who are leading double lives, i.e., being with women and men romantically, I was hoping that they'd bring his character out, maybe even based on what Isiah said and develop story lines from there.

Certainly, there are plenty of stories they could develop from a once womanizer turing out to be leading a double life with men. Even if I'm wrong about his womanizing, there could still be story lines about how this lifestyle was kept secret and how that secret has affected so many lives. There could even be story lines about how it has affected his character on the show.

Did anyone see Isaiah Washington's interview on Larry King Live the other night? I have only seen a clip in which he states that he is glad to be able to tell his side of the story, and apologizes yet once again, but I didn't get to hear "his" side of the story. Just curious if anyone could fill me in.
