:broken: I have never posted to ask for thoughts or prayers before but I believe in the power of prayer and sending vibes someone's way so hopefully this will help. My dear grandmother has been living in a nursing home for the past two years. She suffered a severe stroke and my uncle and aunt, who are also getting up in age, just couldn't take care of her the way it was needed on a daily basis. My grandmother has refused to eat for the past three days and is in and out of conciousness. The doctors said a feeding tube was necessary to sustain life and my uncle, completely understandably, refused. The end is near and my heart is hurting for my uncle, who had to make that decision and my grandmother for having the end of her precious life be like this. I come from a pretty ugly, fractured extended and nuclear family so the fact that these individuals, who have been "the good" all these years are having to go through this is gut-wrenching. I live in Arizona and they are in Wisconsin. I know my words of comfort over the phone or in a letter can't bring much solace but hopefully the end will come swiftly and everyone can be at peace. Thanks for reading this and thinking of my family!

This is an update, although not a very pleasant one. My Uncle's wife (my autn obviously)-the same uncle going through things with my grandmother had a routine dr. appt yesterday. She is not exactly the picture of health- well over 300 pounds with high blood pressure and a three pack a day habit. She is the most caring woman though and the closest thing to a real mom that I have ever had. Well, that routine appt led to a colonoscopy, which led to the discovery of some malignant tumors. She is having surgery today to take out the cancer. This has all happened in the past 24 hours!! My Uncle is hanging on by a thread and I feel helpless. SO, additional thoughts and prayers for the surgery to be successful and that she survive surgery (which is what I'm really worried about)
I guess when it rains it pours, but this is insane.
It is really nice to send this out to such a supportive community. I appreciate any thoughts you can send this way.

I hate to hear this. I will pray that your entire family will find some comfort during this time. My DH's aunt recently went through something similar so I know how stressful things can be.

update...My grandmother passed away two days ago. I am so thankful that her suffering, which escalated in the end, is now done. There will be services the first week of December, so that my aunt can attend. (she is still recouperating in the hospital but the prognosis is positive) It will be good to see my family and let them know, face to face how much I care for them.
Thank you again for all the thoughts and prayers. It is appreciated more than you know.
